The thread for guitar/bass effects pedals. Can include rackmount stuff too.

-Review/Show what you have.
-Link/Discuss what you want.

I have a boss v-wah. I like it. Has a bunch of built in distortions, but it's hard to choose between them on the fly or turn the drive on/off so it's not very useful. Wide variety of wah sounds.

http://www.bossus.com/go/v-wah/

Also have a digitech whammy pedal. Does it's job.

I'm considering the following pedals to round out my tone section.

Boss NS-2 Noise Suppressor Pedal - http://www.guitarcenter.com/Boss-NS-2-Noise-Suppressor-Pedal-100090732-i1124485.gc

Boss BD-2 Blues Driver Pedal - http://www.guitarcenter.com/Boss-BD-2-Blues-Driver-Pedal-100012315-i1124508.gc

Boss CS-3 Compression Sustainer Pedal - http://www.guitarcenter.com/Boss-CS-3-Compression-Sustainer-Pedal-100302891-i1124473.gc

Boss MT-2 Metal Zone - http://www.guitarcenter.com/Boss-MT-2-Metal-Zone-Effects-Pedal-100020358-i1124483.gc

I'll post more in a bit. Just wanted to get a discussion going.

I'll just throw out that for less than $100 on craigslist, the Line6 Pods are pretty hard to argue with. They're not going to touch a dedicated pedal in most cases, but they're fun to screw around with.

i have a boss gt-6 from my guitar playing days. Didn't sound quite as good as dedicated pedals, but the tweakability and convenience was great.

I have one of these (CS-3) and I really like it. By fiddling with the settings you can get everything from a "squashed" Peppers/funk sound to more or less endless sustain. The uber-sustain setting + delay sounds amazing messing around on my lap steel. Usually not a cheap pedal even used, but totally worth it imho.

I use a boss ME-50, it has a nice sturdy metal case, but much less features than some of those digitech multiple effect units.

I still use individual pedals occasionally, mostly boss stuff, chorus ensemble, metal zone, compression/sustainer.

I've got the following chain:

1) Home made Fuzzface clone ->
2) BYOC OD2 (Tubescreamer clone with boost pedal) ->
3) Keeley modded ProCo Rat2 ->
4) Home made Rat pedal with LM308 chip + clipping options ->
5) Home made Big Muff Pi '78 IC version (Siamese Dream sound) ->
6) MXR Carbon Copy delay ->
7) Boss RC-2 looper ->
8) Line 6 M9 stompbox modeler

Powered by a Voodoo Lab Pedal Power 2 Plus

Will take a picture tonight.

I find that if you have clean power the need for noise suppression goes way down. I am running four drive pedals into a tube head and don't have much noise to deal with. PP2+ is awesome.

I had almost everything at one time. At the end of my playing, I pretty much only used a Crybaby, and FuzzFace. Very rarely I'd use analog delay to play around with slapback echo effects. I like spring reverb on amps. Blows away the newer "realistic" stuff.

Also.. if you guys have any comments on chaining order, that would be nice too.

For instance, i justified putting my whammy pedal first since it has to process pitch, and I figured it would be best to send it the raw/clean signal from the guitar before anything else. Otherwise it has to deal with pitch shifting processed sounds and it probably won't be as clean.

Compressor last? Or noise reduction?

Just bought a pod XT live. It's a couple gens old, but it does what I want it to. Has lots of good amp models and folks have made lots of good presets which you can load onto it.

I've never liked having a long chain of pedals.

Generally:

Filters -> Compression -> EQ -> Overdrive -> Distortion -> Fuzz -> Modulation -> Time based -> Gate

Works well. There's no hard and fast rules however.

Basically you want to shape your pure signal with filters/compression/EQ then apply gain lightest to heaviest. At that point you can add more EQ. Then all your mods (chorus, trem) then time based like delay. Noise gate or filter should go last.

Again, that's one way to do it which can work well, YMMV. Just play around and do what sounds good to your ear.

Never used any pedals more than the Crybaby & Boss Mega Distortion, that I still have. Though I sold my good guitar years ago and now I just have a Fender Bullet to play around with. Not sure if I should laugh or cry about this.

Almost too many at this point. I don't even know where to start with stuff half the time.

That said, I want to go back in time and buy all the TS-808s I could get my hands on. I distinctly remember those ugly green boxes at my local music store in the display case for a pittance compared to what an original goes for these days.

I have had a Metal Zone for years... but it really became my favorite after I modded it with Monte Alums Tri Gain mod kit.
http://www.monteallums.com/pedal_mods.html.
It cleans up nice and warm yet still rages good with good pickups. Very versatile IMO.

If I could only keep 3 of my pedals it would be the moded Metal Zone, NS-2 Noise Suppressor, and the TU-2 tuner. They get the job done.

I've read good things about the ISP Decimator for noise suppression.

I would get a Delay before a compressor.

I actually had a setup like that for a while...got tired of tap dancing on all the pedals while playing

I simplified two years ago and got a Line6 M13 to replace my echo, phaser, compressor, and 20000 other pedals from my collection. I kept my main work horses (Yardbox (a Tonebender clone), my modded Vox wah, a Danelectro overdrive that I use for instant boost, and a Boss noise suppressor linked directly to the Yardbox (for technical reasons). All on my ghetto home-made pedal board:

Been playing through an Egnater Tweaker for the last few months - best amp I've ever owned. I can get so many tones out of it I find I don't have to use my pedals much
