SO you really aren't looking for a metal guitar, but a guitar to play "metal" on?
'Cause I was gonna say that a Dobro is about the only all metal guitar I've seen although there was this "one off"once that this guy brought by the studio......

i don't see how you people listen to satriani, malmsteen, and petrucci. i agree that it is technically amazing, but it lacks musicality imho. i would sell the gibson and add the money you would of spent on ltd or jackson and buy a better gibson. but whatever floats your boat. but if you're set on buying something, go and play it rather than taking the word of ATOTers.

satriani and petrucci are very musical imho.. malmsteen is just classical shred to me. listen to satriani's Flying in a Blue Dream... its so very melodic and sweet, i could listen to it over and over and over...

The Jackson - Phil Collen is a pretty good sounding guitar is it not?

I like the more rounded horns etc. of the S series a lot more than the RG series.
I have the S470DXQM. Mine. Mine.
It has the Zero Resistance double locking tremolo, which is a lot better than the Edge Pro trems, which I think is what is in the one TechBoy mentioned?. Only thing I don't like is I wish it had more frets. Also although the PUPs don't sound bad to me, I would probably enjoy some better ones and wonder how much better they'd sound.


If I had the $, I'd like to get a Suhr - Reb Beach signature model.

Yep. But Steve Lukather (AKA Luke) gets some of the best sound I've heard, out of EMG's on his Ernie Ball MMs.

Sound better than the EMG's. I was stating my personal preference. Others may disagree. Note that I did say "personally" in my post.

Get a dual humbucker guitar. Have the seymour duncain mustaines put in (they are sex for heavier stuff). I'd say not get a floating bridge at first, tuning over and over is so annoying for a beginner.

That doesn't sound very metal with the telly clip either. That is more of a fuzz distortion.

i haven't listened to any of dreamtheater's new stuff, but what i have heard seems like petrucci is just playing scales and fingertapping as fast as he can. but to each his own i guess.

A lot of his playing is extremely fast and technical and lacks "soul" but he can also play melodically and with a ton of emotion. I hereby recommend the following songs:

Voices
Stream of Consciousness (there is a lot of wanking in this song but towards the end it gives me chills every time)

Some of the best music ever written is basic scales over chord progressions. Petrucci just goes alot faster
