Gun buy backs are dumb. They usually end up colleting guns that barley work and since guns are still being made its just a suck up PR at best.

Around here the gun shops set up shop right next to the cop table. Anything that would have been worth anything gets bought by the gun shops. The guy that runs the range I shoot at was saying he can get some crazy deals because people have no clue, offer then $225 vs the $200 the cops offer (or whatever,) clean them up and then resell them. He even had some of the WWII era rifles that he bought for $225 - $250 on display. No idea what those were worth but I would imagine collectors would pay decent cash for one in working order with the original slings, magazines etc.

I remember a story when they did a gun buyback. people were going into stores and buying BBguns, air guns, etc. they were taking them for $200 cash.

stores were sold out of them all within hours.

Wish I could find the article but a gun club caught wind of a gun buy back. They set up a stand of their own nearby and offered more money than the gun buyback. The buyback got all of the useless broken guns and the gun club got to pick up the desirable pieces.

The chief pointed to one German-made World War II-era assault rifle, calling it the "grandaddy of all assault weapons" worth "well over" $15,000.

lol..."well over $15,000"? If it's the STG44 like what they are hinting at that would be "well over" $40K. But I'd bet that it's an MP40 that they actually have.

Still though, who the hell would turn in a gun from WWII? That's retarded as many collector's (myself included) would shell out money just to have it/prevent it from being destroyed.

I was thinking that maybe it was the .22LR clone of the StG-44 but even that doesn't make sense, as that's worth more than $200 too. Either the cops have misidentified this mystery German rifle or someone is extremely stupid in turning it in.

PM me a picture. I'll buy it. You can ship it to my FFL. $300 plus actually shipping costs, pending review of pictures.

Edit: Assuming it's legal for you to sell out of state.

I'll send you a pic either tonight or tomorrow night. Pretty busy lately.

Probably a bit of both.

Do you have to give your name when you get rid of these guns?

Seems like a really great way to get rid of guns used in crimes or murders, better than a storm drain.

well depending on state, you have to do a transfer through an FFL to transfer ownership of a firearm. There's also waiting periods and other things.

These people are just dropping off guns, bypassing all laws.

You're technically not transferring ownership/selling them. The police take possession and destroy them.

I'd go down to the buyback with a stack of cash and make people a better offer on their guns. I know it happened in Washington not long ago.
