This thread is a tad too long. anyway...
My dad is a hunter. He has a dozen shotguns and one handgun. All of his guns and ammo were in the same area and easily accessible. My father has only shot animals for food. His handgun is for protection inside the home. He has never had to point the gun at another human. He is a member of the NRA.
My stepdad is a disabled Vietnam Vet. He has several handguns and rifles. He even owns a semi-automatic machine gun. He is an avid gun collector and a proud member of the NRA.
I am not a gun collector. When I was 16-19, I went hunting with my dad. I would visit my stepdad and shoot his rifles in the countryside. I have been around guns all my life and I have never played with a gun or pointed a gun a person. I was taught that if I did these things, I would have my ass whipped beyond recognition. I have never shot anyone, nor have I pointed a gun at anyone. period.
The point is that my dad(s) taught me how to be responsible with guns. They are responsible with their guns. As many people have pointed out, guns dont kill people; people kill people.
The responsibility of gun safety is in the hands of parents. Parents hold the key in controlling their children. My parents told me what to do, grounded me, spanked me, and taught me right from wrong. Nowadays, kids run wild. Parents have no control. I work graveyards and constantly see YOUNG children wandering the streets at 3A.M.
Place the blame where it belongs. Quit blaming movies, music, video games, TV, books, magazines, and any other medium. Taking away our guns is NOT a viable option. Criminals and cops are the only ones that will have the guns.
When the government starts trying to take away guns(I doubt it will ever happen in the US), Civil War 2 will begin.
