Just one bump for this forlorn post. This is a pretty amazing buy at $9.99. If you need some shoot-shoot-and-shoot-some-more action, with all the advantages of the Half-Life engine, you'll enjoy this game.

I guess not everyone follows computer games closely, so I should explain that this is a game that started as a "total conversion" for Half-Life, but when Valve Software saw an early version, they helped the developers polish it to professional standards, including loaning some of their best level designers. The game is a standalone version, not requiring Half-Life to run.

One more thing is that this game will run quite well on slower systems (minimum spec is a Pentium 233).

New game using the halflife engine. Gameplay is equal to halflife obviously. Unique story, but not as good as HL.

I'm about halfway through the game right now (maybe 8 hours of play), and I must say, this is among the handful of best first-person shooters I've ever played! The level design is excellent, the 4-channel sound is spectacular, there are scripted events happening constantly to liven things up, and it has this wacky mix of elements from other games and movies (the female computer from System Shock, sounds from the movie Forbidden Planet, etc.).

I just finished No One Lives Forever, which is one of the year's most highly reviewed games, and I am definitely finding Gunman to be more addictive.

I think the reviews for GC have been really unfair. I just finished it and while it's not the greatest game ever (that would be Half-Life) it was decent fun and really well done considered how it was developed. Daikatana was made by people in the same place and we all know what a POS it turned out to be.

GC is worth $15-$20 IMO. It took longer to play the Voyager: Elite Force and that was $40+.

Wasn't GC originally going to be a mod until Valve saw it and liked it enough to make it into a full-blown game?
Daikatana was a test to see how well the game industry could take a joke.
