Gunman shoots soldier in Ottawa, shots fired in Parliament

A soldier guarding a war memorial was just shot by a man carrying a rifle. Several MPs report shots fired inside the Main Block of the Parliament building.

So far, it appears to be a lone gunman.

The entire downtown area is now blocked off by police. There are reports of a gunman on a roof. All the federal employees were just asked to stay inside their buildings.

And yesterday a man ran over two Canadian soldiers in a parking lot killing one before he was shot dead by police.

CBC apparently *confirms* 1 shooter shot dead inside Parliament.

All federal office buildings are told to close their blinds and stay away from windows, there's talk of shooter carrying a sniper gun.

Canada has a fairly powerful gun lobby as well, FWIW. There are a lot of imported assault rifles (Sig, H&K, FN, Beretta) that you can purchase in Canada that are illegal in the US.
