There is nothing illegal about one person selling a gun to another. It is against Craigslist posting rules though.
This. You can sell a gun private party but you must do it through a broker and fill out all the appropriate forms and apply for the background check. I know, I've done it before. It is no different than buying a new gun through a dealer.
But it is illegal to sell a gun the "Craigslist" way ... ie, meet at a predetermined location, exchange money and goods, leave.
Not where I live. I can sell via classified ad in the newspaper, the bulletin board at the local grocery store, on various radio call-in FS/T shows, et cetera. No paperwork required for a private party to sell to another, as long as they are a resident of the State or are military and stationed here, and are not a felon and such.
