As they did with the 280x,380, 270x,380x,370. Are you going to say they didn't target that market for the last 5 years?
I don't get what all th hype is about?
They will be lower and mid range cards for lower and mid range prices.
And on the other hand I see people acting like Nvidia is just gonna abandon the mid range, not release the 1060 and 1050 and just let AMD have the mid range /low end.
Next it will be Nvidia abandons all notebooks also and will stand by and watch AMD take all the market share.
Silverforce you always seemed to have you head screwed on right. Is this what you thinks gonna happen? Seriously.
Nobody credible has said NV abandons those lower markets, that's insane.
Likewise, nobody with any shred of credibility can say AMD is abandoning the high-end. Really, people who make that statement with the full public knowledge of Vega + HBM2 on the horizon is beyond reasoning and can go on the ignore list.
Just like we all know GP106 is coming from NV soon.
AMD went entry (P11) & mainstream (P10) first, NV went mid-range with GP104. These are just decisions that each management sees as their best approach. There's good reasons behind both.
NV wants 970, 980 and 980Ti owners to upgrade. They know these gamers upgraded recently from 770, 780 and 780Ti and are keen to do so again. So they jack up the price and extract more profit from this group of frequent upgraders. More profits = good for NV.
AMD is desperate for marketshare gain. The best way for them to gain marketshare is to target the mass market and that's <$300.
RX 470 is rumored to be $149. If the 3dMark result is accurate, it will match the 970 in gaming performance at less than half the price at <100W gaming power load.
That's exciting for a LOT of gamers. Maybe not you or I because we have bigger budgets. But this isn't about us forum warrior enthusiasts. We tend to aim higher. I mean I didn't care about the 750Ti, 950, 960, 370, 380, 380X etc. All pointless to me as a gamer. I had 2x R290 in my main rig back in 2013.
But don't be all sky is falling or Polaris is awful... if the performance from leaks hold, it will be a very disruptive series from AMD due to the combination of low priced perf/$, perf/w and features.
