Imagine if true. I will be starting a 980ti owners therapy group. To join the therapy group, reply to this thread and send me a PM to confirm your membership. We will be meeting anonymously from this point forward.

Just sell your 980 Tis and pocket the cash until Polaris 10/GP104 drop if you are that concerned If rumor is true, you can get the same performance you had before but with some extra cashola in your pocket.

I don't see why that's not possible. We've all forgotten what a node shrink does for GPUs, it's been far too long on 28nm relying only on better architectures these past few years.

It's gonna get exciting, at last! Then we're probably in for another good 5+ comparatively boring years of 14nm... up until we get back again to 600mm^2 dies.

The rumour comes from Chiphell. Another user mentioned ~3200 points in the same benchmark. Guess we will find out soon.

Typical WCCFTech probably not citing its sources so we can't look up the origin of the rumor

3200 pts in 3d Mark Fire Strike Ultra is the exact score of R9 390X clocked at 1150 MHz.

300 for 980ti performance?!

would buy 2.

unless the retailers want to use our exchange rate to make it 500.

which is what they'll do.

Yeah I'm not sure how they arrived at 980 Ti from "It's a 300 series replacement." Those aren't the same performance level... I want 980 Ti performance for $300 as much as the next guy but I just dont see this rumor supporting that

I think this is when all users start to be with high expectations and then reality kicks in...

Says a man with a 6600k running on integrated gpu while he waits. moonbogg has a 3930k so unless he retires his rig for a few months after selling his 2 water cooled 980TIs or buys a cheap gpu to "tide" him over he has a problem.

moonbogg, your therapy sessions can have us watching the incredible fps dual 980TIs put up in SLI!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

I said this before, but still wonder how can anyone believe this story.
Since when AMD even shares their final pricing with their AIBs 2 months before the announcement? Not even before 2 wks, they generally give a reference price 1 or 2 wks before so AIBs .
doesn't even make sense as they also are waiting for nvidia to reveal their hand (pricing) as they are planning to announce their new stuff before AMD.

One of the advantages of that "worthless" iGPU everyone is always harping on Lots of older games in my backlog that I can worth through on this little guy until this system gets a new dGPU.

I don't understand why a 980Ti owner would hold onto their card instead of selling it?
Look at the 780Ti for example. Beaten by the GTX 970. You could have sold the 780Ti, and bought the GTX 970, and gained performance while gaining money too. Same thing this generation, you'll be able to sell the 980Ti, and upgrade to whatever you want, including maybe even a crossfire/sli build, for far more performance.

No therapy group needed, ya'll need a group for dumping those 980Tis on unsuspecting suckers.

Wccf wrote their sources said FS Ultra score of Polaris 10 is a little bit under 4k, price they did not say anything.

Are you forgetting what Navi suggests together with some of Koduri statements. The limit is no longer 600mm^2. Interposers changes the paradigm.

I can believe it. I wouldn't be surprised to see it be very close. Maybe not exactly equal, but within 5-10%, possibly just as good in the right games.

I'm not expecting anything special from either nvidia or AMD for performance. I think GP104 and Polaris are both going to be lackluster compared to the 980ti/Titan X as far as bringing higher performance. What we could very well see is large improvements in perf/$ though. GP104 is likely going to be just like the 680 was to the 580 at launch; not much faster than the current flagship, but cheaper and using less power. The same goes for Polaris. Unless the new node is really just that expensive for them. Otherwise a Polaris that is $299 and equal to 980ti performance would force a sort of price control on GP104, which going on die size is not going to be remarkably faster than a GM200 as well.

I have submitted my application to Moonbogg and look forward to burning by 980tis in effigy.

no it will be actually "but but amd said its as fast as a 980ti at 250$" :sneaky:
It might be as fast in the right DX12 games though. In legacy, non-optimized games Polaris won't be as good. GCN 1.0. Rinse. Repeat.

In my opinion, most certainly.

How exactly could someone sell his own used 780Ti, buy 970 and still gain money?
