hey assshole, ya, call my cousin a sack of crap will you then? Someone who recieved a degree, and served in the Navy is a sack of crap?

Anyone breaking rules, regardless of what kind of person he is, should be dealt with on equal terms. Why the hell should there be regulations on what to do when facing a type of person? "oh, hmm, this guy, looks clean, young student.. ok, we must treat him like a little girl.." Bullsh!t. Every person who is disorderly must be dealt with with extreme prejudice as they can be potentially a thread to the officer and everyone around him.

I think they were entirely rude to the students that asked them for their badge numbers and names. That is information they should provide. After all, using HeroOfDumbWhore's logic, if you aren't scared then what do you have to hide?

C'mon waggy, there was no need to tazer someone 5-6 times just because they took their sweetass time leaving. If he had violently resisted or said no and tried to hide that'd be one thing. However, it looks to me like he just took his time. Somehow the cops in this instance have this idea they shouldn't be inconvenienced. That's goes entirely against what being a police officer is about.

I defend the police 98% of the time because I have classes with tons of them (I'm a CJ major). However, when they are wrong there's no blue line to prevent me from speaking my mind. Disagreeing with their actions is not because I don't respect or hate cops. Not true at all.

What we are taught here is to always try to defuse a situation peacefully and use physical force as a last resort. That goes for Pepper Spray and Tazers. A lot of time those devices can rile up a crowd more than they help subdue a suspect. Verbal Commands and even playing nice tends to work better than Pepper Spray and a Tazer. Those devices, when used, can make a crowd and the subject combative. These police needs more training. Besides, I don't even think this kid was truly breaking the law. He was being a dick by taking a long time to leave. That's not a crime. That's just anal-retentive cops trying to justify their actions.

I see brutality as something that results in fairly significant injuries or emotional trauma. This wasn't brutality, but it was a breakdown in the entire idea of Community Policing, and procedure -- as well as common fvcking sense. There's no need to taze a guy in that situation unless he was being physically combative. The Police should be able to handle verbal taunts and childish behavior (like taking a long time to leave) without having to use physical force. If they can't then they should get another job.

I don't pay for police officers doing this crap in Mississippi, Massachusetts or wherever.

Officers should not discriminate against anyone. Be it someone who has no criminal background, and someone who did. What if it was some thug in that situation. No one would've complained. Officers SHOULD NOT change tactics depending on the person they see at hand. Every person is potentially dangerous, so no risk should be taken.

The officers did what they were TRAINED TO DO, they FOLLOWED protocol, and there should be only a single set of protocol to be followed given that particular situation.

It should not matter on the physical appearance of the person.
That person was a percieved threat to UCLA because:
1) did not have proof to be a UCLA student. potentially using UC resources for free.
2) since he did not have proof of being a student, he should not be around campus. I've heard a whole bunch of stories of non-affiliates doing crime @ UCSD campuses. If they are not students, they have no goddamn business to be on campus.

So to prevent any possible senario, he had to be escorted out. Everything was done as they were trained to do.

Goddamn people, get a fvcking clue.

All you've done this entire thread is exaggerate. You're acting as if this was a shotgun wielding maniac and the cops merely forced him into the back of a police car. He was tazed repeatedly to "comply." That's pure laziness and cruelty. The old way was just tying their legs or hog-tying them and then carrying them to the car. There's no reason to taze someone 5 or 6 times. It is like a science experiment for the UCLA Campus Police.

Tazing random people at grocery stores? Given up all my right? Even for a wannabe fearmonger, that's pretty pathetic.

Yeah, I'm totally a fearmonger and you're more illiterate than my dog. I said I *wish* someone would taze your ass and see how you felt about "complying."

It is obvious to me in this thread (and many others) that you blindly support the government unless it is your bull getting gored. Your bull just so happens to be guns, God, and gays. How shocking.
Yup, I agree. No reason to taze someone for 2-3 seconds X 5 times and keep telling the person to "get up". Especially when: a) they clearly dragged him out at the end and were much bigger than the guy, b) the guy said he had a medical condition, and c) it was pretty clear that tazing was NOT working after the 2nd time. Big lawsuit impending.

I agree that this kid should have just left, but (and I don't know this is the case) if I had been working on a project for several hours (they did say it was after 11PM) and a cop told me I had to leave, I would probably ask to be able to save my work first (which they would probably not let you do). This could cause you to fail a class and have to repeat it.... so basically the cop could have been ruining the kids life because he didn't take his ID with him to the library....

I'm not saying the kid was in the right (I don't know exactly what happened even from the video), but I am saying that I could understand his reaction if he was in a situation like above. I personally wouldn't have resisted (even in the situation above) but I would not have been pleased.

You are wrong. The UCLA library is PUBLIC LIBRARY. You can use the library even if you are not a student. It is just that after 11pm, you can only stay if you have a student ID card.

Smoke more crack. Seriously. What a stupid comment. It is a Public University, and I'm sure there are thousands of employees, friends, relatives, and tourists looking around. And, I'm sure there are restaurants and businesses that the General Public uses. Perhaps UCLA all of a sudden grew massive gates with bomb-sniffing dogs, but I doubt it.

the college wanted him out or prove he was a student of the school. he refused to show ID he also refused to leave (according to article) and tried to get others to join him in resisting the police.

if he had a id just show that he has is allowed to be there. the cops wold have continued on. instead he chose to be a big guy and well lost.

It doesn't take more than 2 seconds to do CTRL + S

I've worked on projects that had multiple parts in multiple applications, plus when a cop tells you to not move or to stand up they wouldn't take kindly to you even hitting two more keys on the keyboard.
