Damn. It seems like there's nothing down there, so I would expect some kind of padded/cushioned walls, bars, and floor.

There may be grounds for a suit.

Damn, so sad. I'm sure he was going to give the ball to his kid. For a baseball fan that young, that is a lifetime memory, now replaced with a nightmare. :'(

I know when I was that age, I would have done just about anything for a foul ball. When I was 8 or 9 and a huge baseball fan, there was something very special about getting a major league baseball that was actually touched by the ball players. Seems silly now of course, but not when you are at that age.

You ever seen the wordage on the back of a ticket? There are all kinds of disclaimers. Not sure if they would negate a lawsuit or not however.

That said, I would not be surprised if the players chip in for a very nice funeral and college fund for the kid.

just saw the video. i wonder if moving him caused his death. hopefully the people who attended to him and got him on the stretcher did the right thing.

the railings looked too low, and the man, unfortunately, just reached out too far and lost his balance. every dad wants to get a ball at the stadium for their kid. so sad this simple fatherly notion caused his demise.

RIP. I hate seeing stuff like this. The guy was just trying to catch a baseball for his son and then something like this happens? Ugh.

I hope Hamilton doesn't go off the deep end after this and start using again.

The guy that threw the ball? Nah, no law suit there. A suit towards the Rangers though? I could see that.

There most likely will be a lawsuit. The result of which, will be that the owner of the stadium will probably raise the guard rails up a few feet. I hope that there is a lawsuit for the kid's sake now that his father and breadwinner are gone. RIP

Hopefully he'll be awarded a decent settlement.

In the announcers' defense, their primary reason for existence is to be entertaining as well as informative. It's their job to joke and laugh and throw witty banter back and forth. They had no idea the guy was hurt.

True.

But now some of their comments sound foolish.

Yup. haha. IMO, baseball announcers always sound foolish. There's so much down time during the game and their under pressure to keep up the conversation and hold the audience's attention throughout the game.

if he didn't get hurt nobody would be saying that.

i also think that a lawsuit is ridiculous over this.

as much as it is a tragedy, it is 100% on the guy himself, nobody else.

Hate to admit I thought about lawsuit also. I was watching the game on and off tonight too but didnt hear about it until after game was over.

fuck all of you that think about lawsuit.

the guy was a klutz and didn't have the coordination or spatial awareness to make the catch without falling.

HIS CHOICE. HIS RESPONSIBILITY.

yeah, lets just start putting padding everywhere. on the roads, on sidewalks, on walls, on ceilings, on rooftops, wrap them around trees and poles. you never know where a guy might fall, trip, slide, jump, swing.

lets just put a 6 foot high fence up so people can't possibly lean over and fall.
and when one person decides to climb the 6 ft fence, we'll just raise it to 25 feet. if that's not high enough, put some barb wire at the top. and if that doesn't deter them, just turn the whole stadium into an inescapable cage.
where does it end? people have to start taking responsibility for their actions and not sue at every opportunity because of something they personally caused to happen.

High rise buildings under construction sometimes have safety nets extending out several feet around the perimeter of the highest floor. The stadiums that are concerned about fans safety may have to install these in certain areas. It is another instance of a nanny society having to protect us from ourselves.

The railing is high enough. If he hadn't tried to get in front of the old guy he wouldn't have fallen.

Yeah, why there was just open space with a big drop is strange. not good...

Let's cage in the crowds, or better yet ban them from being at the game for their own safety. Foul balls are dangerous!

On a more serious note, it was nice to see that the guy who fell at a Rangers' game last year admitted that it was completely his fault.

meh his fault. can't blame anyone else. IF he wouldn't have tried to get in front of the other people he wouldn't have lost his balance and fell.

i feel for his son who was with him. sad event.

Uhh, not everywhere. How about just the places where they are suspended above a drop and often reaching to catch things that are out of reach?

Even just a 1m wide net stretched across that area at almost the same level would've done the trick.

I hate nanny laws but, as long as there is no law mandating a net, I'm just fine with them determining negligence in this case.

I highly doubt the family tries to sue but I wouldn't be surprised if Nolan and the Rangers do something big for the family.
