Wow bitter much? Actually, that's a bit incorrect, it's between the family. The family has rights to make decisions if the patient is comatose. Not an imaginary friend, but the collective group. If they can't come to a consensus, a court advisor is awarded.

I would say confirmational bias at it's finest and most prominent. One of the keys to an accurate conclusion is to accept all evidence, not just pick and choose the right evidence that matches your preferred conclusion.
