I've this XP Home installed on my notebook, previously, I've installed this drivers for Aztech USB500L modem which has problem connecting to the net, so I tried to re-installed the drivers but failed miserably, now, there's this CSA icon from the modem that is still lingering around my Control Panel, which I have captured the screen shot with a circle of this item, that is no where to be able to get it un-install and removed from my system. As for this Aztech drivers, I manually delete it off, as it's default un-install somehow gets corrupted which is why leaving me with this mess of the above. Hopefully, guys can assist me cos I've emailed Aztech abt this issue but they simply tells me to use the disk to un-install which I already did & failed, plus I hate their long waiting reply too. All corresponding still failed to come up with any working solution.

Next is this "Startup" in my msconfig, there are some weird named programs also I have them listed in circle in the same screen shot that I'm gonna be posted along to allow u guys to have a clearer understandings of what I'm trying to get rid. I believed u must also be worried how come there such hooker.exe and un-familiar program in startup, which is bothering me. I uncheck them 1st and my system is still working fine, however, I would appreciate if someone can safely tells me how to removed them if it's needed not required at all.

I've ZoneAlarm 4 installed and Norton A/V plus Adaware, somehow, such programs also doesn't aids in getting rid of these wierd and uncommon programs nor let alone be able to search out them.

Ok, sorry for the long post, and Thanks in advance for trying to help.

Page unavailable for viewing so ...

I know back in the day, you had to boot into DOS to manually delete any control panel applets, not sure if thats changed since.

Download a registry cleaning program (I use the older one from jv16.org) and let it zoom through and clean stuff. There are a variety of other ones out there that can help.

Be sure to use the latest reference file for adaware and let it zap anything.

And this concludes your general useless attempt at trying to help someone post

thanks for trying, but anyway, registry cleaning is really not very suitable for a noob like me, therefore, which is why I've posted the link for the program & icon which is bothering & wants them removed.

Pls assist. Thank you

If you want to mess around, find the .cpl file associated with the control panel extention you want to eliminate, and delete (or move) the file.

Alternatively, you could edit the registry key HKCU\Control Panel. If you are not familiar with editing/exporting registry settings, this could be hazardous to your system

If you had XP Pro, you could use group policies to hide control panel applets. Since you have XP Home, this will not apply to you.

A simpler way to hide control panel extensions is via Tweak UI, a free utility from Microsoft. It may already be on your system - search your system for "tweak". If you don't have it, you can download Tweak UI from Microsoft's web site. Try www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp, or search the MS site for powertoys - Tweak UI is a "power toy". (Despite the "pro" level in the above URL, Tweak UI works with XP Home.)

Downloading and installing Tweak UI is a snap. To hide a control panel icon using Tweak UI: Start - Programs - Powertoys for Windows XP - Tweak UI. Find and click the control panel option on the left of the Tweak UI display. From here, you can hide (or show) control panel applets without having to resort to editing the registry or deleting files. (Not as clean, but works well.)

Good luck!

did a quick google search for khooker.exe - it turns out that it's some utility that gets installed by SiS graphics cards drivers... so it shouldn't be harmful (if it's legit).

ok, thanks maybe, u got this one correct and assumed safe is right too, becos' my notebook does indeed based on SiS chipset, but I have it disabled as you can see, but somehow, the notebook still does works fine, so, what about the other 2? can find out which one might be that vexing "Aztech accompanied icon startup" which I really have no idea how to get rid of it within my Control Panel after I had encountered bad un-installation with their Aztech U500 USB ADSL modem drivers, thus leaving those un-wanted ADSL icon that will startup in my system tray, but I wish to get them removed. How?

Thanks
