Jackass, this is an outlook on marriage and having a great life has nothing to do with an outlook on marriage.

I'd rather just kill you thanks anyway.

Judging the institution of marriage based solely on examples of its failures is a fvcked up way of looking at the world. You might as well tell people not to drive cars; after all, car crashes are the leading cause of death if you're under 27  How can you judge marriage if you've never even been married before?

Is it though? If you allow it to color your perceptions of everything, then it most certainly is; however, wantonly going about life without consideration of consequences can be just as bad, imo.

just don't have kids until you're absolutely sure you're in a secure marriage. Oh yeah, and a prenup if the salaries differ a lot.

I'll second the plea not to get married. They all turn evil. I'm working on number three now. Guys, marriage sucks. But don't take my word for it, come talk to me after you've been married for 10 years or so, then you'll see. Talk to me when your best friend gets divorced, yes it will happen.

Marriage sucks but divorce is worse.

Take the example of Jimmy Kimmel (from The Man Show) he is actually paying more out to his ex wife than he is earning (he is earning millions)

That is absolute bull. Legally, this is not possible. There is a calculus used that varies form state to state, but alimony will NEVER exceed income.

After 3 marriages, don't you think that maybe, just maybe, you are part of the problem?

When I got married, maybe 75% of the guys came over in the office and said "don't do it, you will regret it". The other 25% come over queitly and say, don't listen to them, marriage is the best thing in the world.

Funny how the 75% are the ones that find excuses to stick around work longer.

Sorry, but I am with the 25%, marriage is wonderful.

It can when the person is very wealthy. I can't say I'm suprised Jimmy Kimmel is divorced, though, judging by his antics.

The sum of this line of reasoning is, IMO: Extremely stupid, egocentric people can still get married if they want to.

The institution of marriage should be by common sense an extremely important life choice, if that is not already apparent to an individual, it's unlikely any of these posts will help.

Agreed. There are risks involved with every major decision you make in your life, and you should educate yourself about those risks prior to making those decisions. Focusing on the risks alone is unhealthy, however, and can lead to poor decisions IMO. The problem with these types of rants against marriage is that the ranter usually fails to weigh the benefits of marriage along with the risks. I presume that this is because he/she:

a. has had a previous bad experience with marriage, or
b. has never been close enough to someone whom he/she would consider spending his/her life with.

I've been with the same woman since 1990 and everything's ducky. This is why this thread is stupid; marriage is good/bad depending on the couple and the status of others' marriage is meaningless to your own. You get what you put into it.

You don't marry for yourself. You marry for your children. If you marry for yourself, you're toast. Some people just don't know how to suffer properly.

I'll believe in aliens before I believe that a condition like that is ever in the double-digit percentage range.

And they're all like that; not a one would have a single regret about ruining a man's life for a child that he can't see often, and which likely isn't even his - or just to avoid having to work.
