I'm moving down to SD in about a month and have been browsing Craigslist for the past few weeks looking for places, and there seems to be an overwhelming amount of people who prefer having a female as a roommate which isn't odd in itself-except that they're mostly dudes.

Now I have no problems with people who live with people of a different gender, and might consider it for myself--but am I just really old fashioned like Mr. Furley and think it's a bit strange that so many guys are requesting women to live with?

Sure, generally speaking women are cleaner and arguably more responsible than your average guy, but it seems like the potential for drama is increased a tad.

I'll take drama over unkempt and irresponsible, any day.

<---(is living with 2 girls)

Craigslist seems like a weird place for a guy to request a female roommate, though- seems a little unlikely that many girls would be comfortable finding a complete stranger to live with online, who was a guy.

idk, the female bathrooms I've been in have been far more gross than male bathrooms.

I live with one guy and one girl and DEFINITELY prefer the girl roommate. They're generally cleaner which is nice, as long as you don't end up with a neat freak who rides you about picking up after yourself. But of course some girls are slobs... so you can't lump them all into the 'cleaner' category.

obviously you havent been in many female bathrooms... however, i find it weird living w/ a girl because there's so many social taboo's like i cant walk around the house in my briefs. also kinda weird when you share a room with a girl cause people always think its a porno waiting to happen.

Are these ads mostly in the Hillcrest area? If so, that makes perfect sense.

But that assumes the male room mate is unkempt and irresponsible.

What you have missed is the advantage of a gay room mate. It's all of the cleanliness and responsibility of a woman with none of the drama! My current room mate is gay and he's awesome. It's great so long as you don't suffer from homophobia.

Indeed, the only girl I've ever had as a room mate was the biggest slob I've ever met.

Yeah, he'd have to be willing to kill a lot of spiders and bugs. We just don't know if he's got that in him.

When I had a roommate it was always a female. They are cleaner, quieter and smell better. They are also more likely to go to their date's house rather than bring dates home.

An added bonus is one who likes to cook and can do it very well.

Just don't sleep with her, or any of her close friends and there will be no drama.

Because no matter what they say most of those guys are pathetic nerds who are hoping it will turn into some sort of sex situation.

most guys will say they want a female roommate because they are neater....etc.

Most are also thinking they will be in an automatic relationship because of the living arrangements.

I know a lot of chicks whose 'guy' roomies turned insane over them bringing guys over and what adults do.

That's what immediately pops into my head when a guy is advertising for female roommates.

On the flipside of this I know some chicks that picked guy roommates because they could be manipulated. One in college never had to pay her share of rent. She basically lived free, I would put money that the guy probably helped her with other bills even.

She'd do things like walk around half naked to 'make out' as she called it and cuddle (we all knew she was probably screwing him or at least doing oral). The guy was a pushover though. She said there was nothing wrong with it.
