Craigslist seems like a weird place for a guy to request a female roommate, though- seems a little unlikely that many girls would be comfortable finding a complete stranger to live with online, who was a guy.

But that assumes the male room mate is unkempt and irresponsible.

What you have missed is the advantage of a gay room mate. It's all of the cleanliness and responsibility of a woman with none of the drama! My current room mate is gay and he's awesome. It's great so long as you don't suffer from homophobia.

I beg to differ. I had a gay roommate. He ended up using my GF as a counselor. It was bad. Very bad. Do not recommend.

He also liked to have very loud gay butt secks.

Now I have no problems with people who live with people of a different gender, and might consider it for myself--but am I just really old fashioned like Mr. Furley and think it's a bit strange that so many guys are requesting women to live with?

Sure, generally speaking women are cleaner and arguably more responsible than your average guy, but it seems like the potential for drama is increased a tad.

Are these ads mostly in the Hillcrest area? If so, that makes perfect sense.

yeah... i would definitely check that... nice place tho...

Never been there personally. The gay community is pretty well to do generally speaking though so it wouldn't surprise me if it's a nice area.

I've heard some horror stories from friends that make me think I will probably never live with a female roommate.

Plus I'm a little old-fashioned myself and I don't want people to get the wrong idea.

I didn't like the one female roomate I had one summer, but maybe that was cause she was a bitch..I did most of the cleaning in the kitchen, yet she complained when it wasn't up to her standards..I definitely would not share a bathroom w/ a female roomate, I don't like it even when gf's shed all over the freakin place..

That was my plan, but alas I'm tied down to the valley ... can't seem to get past the company's options

I general, females take better care of a place than males do. That's why you'll find a lot of people renting space in houses only want females unless they get desperate to fill a spot.

They might be messy as any guy, but what matters to the landlord is how the place looks when they go to make repairs from previous tenants.

QFT. There's really no use denying it either. I have lived with both, and the only reason to live with a woman is because you are sleeping with her or want to. There are very rare exceptions, but they are so rare that I'd disbelieve any claims to the contrary.

I've even seen guys start dating one roommate just to be able to becaome the de facto 3rd or 4th roommate, just so he has an in to bang the other roommates. Date the meh one to have access to the hot ones. The inevitable FAIL is pretty amusing.

Now, if you're a girl, I can see wanting a guy roomate to cock-tease for the attention. I've also seen the extremely rare situation where one of my old frat bro's moved in with one girl who was in love with him, just to take advantage of her willingness to cook and clean for him (he had no interest in her, even for sex). That didn't last long.

I've found that girls are generally more outgoing. But I've lived with some pretty fun guys as well. I really have no preference to either as long as they are fun, outgoing, and not cheap. I just don't like living with guys who are real into sport and sit around watching sports all day.

And it's a real bonus if the girls you live with are pretty, fun, and have money. It makes for interesting nights out.
