I think I read she lasted 4 days. It was more about yielding to temptation that necessity?

Define "necessity". She would have had zero health consequences from eating only what she bought(as poor as it was). It was merely lack of self control.

Of course it was a lack of self-control, but the truth is the challenge is quite stupid since you can live on nothing but water for the week, especially if you don't do much. It's not like she is doing blue-collar/physical labor.

If people really wanted to try this, they should at least aim for a month.

With a challenge like that, I'm not sure what you're supposed to do about things like cooking oils, spices or condiments. If you were doing a year or even three months, it wouldn't be a big deal, but you can't really buy anything at all pricey that might last you a couple of months.

The whole point of a liberal, rich public figure conducting a hokey experiment like this is to "prove" how difficult it is. So by failing, she succeeds.

Just read an news report about Paltrow and then came here to find this thread.

Just pitiful. She gives the 1% a bad name.

Necessity: I have 3 limes, half a bag of quinoa, and some avocado left, but I really want to eat some chicken right now because all the stuff I bought is bland/boring compared to chicken so I'm going to.

Her purse costs 3500 dollars.

Just her purse.

If true then she could have eaten for at least a day or two off the money she spent on it.

Just reading the news can really depress a person. There are the 1% (or less) and everyone else. The elitists just show you how bad our society/species can sink. That, and Britt McHenry might get you a coffee at Paltrow's fav coffee shop.

THose on Food stamps get $29/person per week.

The #FoodBankNYCChallenge is meant to raise awareness about hunger and the struggle to live on a budget of just $29 per person for a week.
Participants can use coupons, but they cannot use food that was already in their homes or food given to them by others.

This is what she bought:

The haul included limes, cilantro, corn, whole grain brown rice and eggs.

limes? Cilantro?

I don't know it looks like a lot of food to me!!! I didn't grow up in a typical American Family. My wife is also from China. Typically we buy "whole foods" (unprocessed), it looks like that should last more than a week...

You don't need oil and a majority of condiments.

Why the hell do you think you need luxuries on a budget?

I just bought a pork shoulder for $10 and 5lbs of chicken for $4. I'm nailing this challenge without even trying.

‘C-’ for effort! Gwyneth Paltrow ‘consciously uncouples’ from SNAP challenge after only 4 days

C-?! That's more like get GTFO out of my school! You're a distraction to the students that came here to learn!

The more I think about it, the more irritated I get. It's really a shameful display. It's like volunteering to read a kid's book to a school while on TV, and revealing you're illiterate while the cameras are running. I wonder if she realizes what trivial piece of fluff she is? Probably not. I bet she has the self-awareness of a houseplant...

Gwyneth Paltrow is just a stuck-up, privileged "rich bitch" that has pretty much everything given to her on a silver platter. Like some rich people, she's far removed from the outside world and has no idea how anything works. If you gave me that food I can make enough food for the entire week (including weekends). I could probably even purchase more filling food.

At least Conservatives are honest, They say it up front. F**K you we are only here for ourselves at your expense.

Limosene Liberals (Gore being the benchmark) Are on the same side of Conservatives but they try to wear sheeps clothing to fool the general population.

Gwyneth Paltrow is a Limosene Liberal, playing poor for 4 days yet her outfits could feed 10 families for a year.

Agreed yet she commands a high salary because we, the common folk, are willing to expend our meager earnings to watch the schlock that Hollywood craps out each year.

No, you're just buying cheap meat.

What's wrong with pork shoulder and a chicken? (I'm assuming on this one, but $4 for 5 lbs makes me think he just bought a whole chicken)

The funny thing is, some of the 'cheap' meats aren't bad cuts, but just time consuming to make anything out of. A pork butt, smoked and slow-cooked, is awesome and super cheap.

Apparently poor people are only allowed to eat twigs and leaves while everyone on AnandTech must eat $400 wagyu. There is no middle ground.

Grocery stores around here sometimes have chicken quarters for $0.69/lb. It's probably $0.80 or so after you trim it but still a great deal. Pork shoulder was on sale too.

She's unwatchable. And this publicity stunt was her worst acting yet.

She challenged herself to eat on $29 and quit less than a week into it. It wasn't that she didn't buy enough food, she was just too much of a spoiled rich bitch to eat it. Bet she threw the leftovers in the trash too.

I just remembered that a local Chinese buffet only charges $5.49. You could eat all kinds of stuff there 5 days a week and fast for two. I doubt they take EBT though, so it'd be cheating.

Sure but of those friends with $100k+ debt aren't they all doctors and lawyers? That's been my experience. I think the bigger issue is liberal arts schools charging $20k a semester with 30% graduation rates and abysmal job placement staying stayistics. So we're left with 70% of their students with $40k in debt for no degree. I hope the other 30% got full rides.

Eh, Uconn is like $10k a semester here in CT. So even if you go for something that doesn't even have a job at the end of the degree, you're still $80k in the hole for a Bachelor's
