I think it's good to experiment with different exercises and techniques. I've always felt training is highly individualistic.
I recently saw Jay Cutler using a leg curl machine. He was on his hands and one knee facing away from the machine and using his leg to push the machines arm up and back. I'm guessing it was working his hams/gluts similar to a kick back machine - but I didn't ask, nor did I tell him he was doing it wrong - LOL.
