Are you insane like me when your average gym outfit costs more than your average work/hang out outfit?

:awe:

I have to color match in my gym shoes (different pairs of $100+ Asics), all of my gym shirts and shorts are expensive breathable Asics or Mizuno ($30-50).

In contrast, most of the time I'm out in a pair of cheap Calvin Klein jeans ($30), New Balance shoes ($40), and T-Shirt ($10).

Work is a $50 Rockports, inexpensive dress pants ($30) and Express shirts ($30). Watch tilts it but I don't even wear a watch most of the time. Suit also tilts it but I very rarely wear a suit. No ties for me anymore (though I've got hundreds of dollars worth of them dry cleaned and sitting in the closet )

I used to wear inner shirts (like Hanes) and tanks, but after a while, they just don't look... good... ^_^

Also, feel too showy in tanks for some reason.

Why the hell do you have to color match/have multiple pairs of $100+ Asics for gym work? There's nothing you do at the gym that requires fancy shoes, muchless color coded outfits. If you're there to impress someone or look good for others, you're going to the gym for the wrong reason.

I could not care less what I look like at the gym. I usually wear my crappiest, raggedy t-shirts, mesh shorts, soccer socks (if I'm doing pulls from the floor) and either squat shoes (for squatting, duh) or VFFs (for everything else).

I work out at home, I pretty much wear my gloves and briefs if it's nice enough out. Great chance to get some sun. I'll put shorts on if there's company over or something.

I'm all business when I'm at the gym. Comfortable cheap clothes and a good pair of new balance. No small talk or standing around.

This but I've started to squat barefoot and just a pair of old shoes for everything else, I don't really care what people think of what I'm wearing in the gym I'm not there to impress them.

I shelled for nice pair of running shoes because most of the shoes on the market don't accomodate my level of supination. Otherwise it's Champion\ProSpirit clothes; nothing special. I've eyed some nice outfits, especially now that I'm in good shape, but just can't seem to pull the trigger on the spendier stuff... yet.

When a t-shirt gets a hole in it, it becomes a workout shirt. When a workout shirt gets a larger hole in it (or the first hole gets even bigger) it gets used to mop the floor. Then, it gets sent out for fabric recycling.

I have a few pairs of warm-up pants that I cycle between, one pair of gym shoes, and probably half a dozen old t-shirts with the sleeves cut off. I generally mix and match between those to come up with my gym outfits.

Ratty old T-shirts and mesh shorts. Long tube socks and cons. The long socks protect the shins while doing deadlifts.

I see people wearing affliction bullshit to the gym and I want to grab the nearest dumbell and cave their skull in. Of course I want to murder anyone who wears it at all.

Ugh, I see WAY too many people wearing Affliction and Tapout garbage at the gym. These are usually the people who do one set of bicep curls and then stand around and talk for 15 minutes, then leave without breaking a sweat.

I have one active pair of running shoes and their predecessors as a back up. What ever colors Brooks makes the Adrenaline's in is what color I get. Don't care whether it matches my pants, shorts, or shirt when I'm running. Few weeks and they turn rust red from the ground anyway.

I do like my running clothes to be comfortable though, so I have some expensive running clothing and some cheapo Walmart crap. I wear the expensive stuff on the long runs/races and the generic stuff on the training runs. That way the generic crap gets the bulk of the wear and tear while the expensive stuff lasts longer.

Edit - I don't go to a gym often, if ever, they are too expensive, crowded, usually smell bad and don't offer hours conducive to my work schedule. But, when I was active duty, I'd see many women wearing a full assortment of jewelry, earrings, bracelets, rings, etc, hair done up, and wearing perfume. Seriously? Its a damn gym, you're there to work out. Unless the goal is to be trivialized and be reduced to eye candy at the gym, its a major failure.

Bingo. And being that I run trails, new stuff looks years old within a few wears. I just don't even care how stuff looks unless I'm at my big race for the year.

Is squatting barefoot a good idea? Shoes sound like they would be give you better balance and support, especially the flat ones like Chucks or whatever (which I don't wear and hate).

I lift in my VFFs. My shorts can't go past mid thigh or I get real pissy when I deadlift and squat and I feel them catch on my knees. So I'm usually wearing runners shorts with the mesh liner ripped out. Shirts can't have sleaves, but no tank tops or the bar tears up my back when I squat.

Certain parts of what I "wear" at the gym are expensive. My squat shoes are $180, my belt is $90 (I think), etc. However, my actual attire? Dirt cheap.

speedo, half tank and a pair of chuck taylors. Anything other than this means you aren't serious.
