Beware about the outrageous shipping and handling charges of MP Superstore. I bought an IPAQ3635 from them last night using the MSN deal and ended up getting charged for $31 . This is for ground shipping! Also today, a salesperson for MP store called to sell me extended warranty and accessories for the IPAQ. I had to turn him away.

Here's the link on msn's page that takes you to the Nikon Coolpix 995

It's the 2nd camera down at the MP Superstore as dealsonfire said. Looks like a good deal. I just wish it were a smaller camera cuz then I'd jump on this for sure. I'm still thinking about it though. Nice find dealsonfire!

Yeah you should add the 33 price for shipping from MP Superstores webpage which brings the total to $342.

Doesn't the $100 MSN Passport reward come at the beginning of next year in the form of a check. It's not like you can apply that -100 at checkout, right? Now, that would be nice.

gittyup, if the $100 reward can be applied at check-out, the deal wouldn't be as sweet as this because AMEX pricematch policy only pricematches your total (after the $100 deduction) to the other store's $509 list price.

This is likely a grey-market unit for this price ($645). I don't know if it is for sure, but you need to be aware that Nikon will not accept rebates on grey market products. Getting a 995 for $309 would be insane. I paid a full $799 for it in June.

MP Superstore is hellish to deal with - when I bought a Sony Digital8 camcorder from them during the last year's MSN eShop promotion, they really gave me the hard sell on the over-priced accessories (they called twice to "confirm" the order). When I refused to take the bait, they had "problems" giving me the 20% off. It took several calls and a couple of e-mails with MSN eShop before we got it sorted out.

FWIW, the product I received was brand new, in sealed factory packaging. I did call Sony to verify that it was not a grey market product.

This is a good camera, but it ain't even close to replacing a traditional SLR. I got this a few weeks ago for $380 after rebate/amex/ebates/etc. and while I think it's a great deal for that price, I'm not as happy with it as I thought I'd be.

For one, the menu system is a pain in the ass. On my SLR (Canon Elan IIe), without even moving my eye from the viewfinder, I can change settings on on the fly and never miss a shot. With teh 995, it takes about 5 minutes to figure out where in the menu system to change stuff and by then the moment is gone. I'll get the hang of it eventually I suppose, but it is annoying.

Also the lag time between pressing the shutter and actually captureing the shot is excruciatingly long. Forget shots of any animals or kids.

For the price, it'll work nice for vacations shots, snapshots, etc., but it doesn't come close to replacing my SLR.

SLR= Single Lens Reflex. It means there is no separate viewfinder. You actually view through the same lens that takes the picture. Picture taking is more accurate that way especially for close-up pictures. No parallax.

"What in the hell does SLR stand for?"

I guess it depends what kind of shooter you are. My 995 replaced an 8008s SLR and I have no regrets. I don't take many active/impromptu shots so the slower interaction speed is not really a problem. An SLR is faster to work with, yes, but feature-wise, the 995 is a pretty good replacement: tons of white balance settings, color saturation control, auto bracketting, flash power control, spot metering, etc. I can't wait until I have a genuine SLR digicam (like the D1 series), but until they become affordable, I'll deal with the next best thing.

I got into the Coolpix 995 deal with MP SuperStore yesterday. Last year, if I don't remember wrongly, the MSN discount was applied at check-out. The way it works this year is a bit different in the sense that MSN will be sending us reward check (whick I presume is cash-able at the banks) some time in January. My question is whether it's possible to track the amount of the reward, or I just have to take in good faith that MSN won't screw the deal up? After my transaction yesterday, I didn't receive any email of any sort from MSN about the reward thingy.

Maybe I calculated wrong, but isn't final cost on this $340 if you take into account the $31 shipping?

The PhotoAlley version of this deal is not quite the same, because their price is $799.00, and since Amex will only match up to $250.00, the price comes down to $550, with $200 in other rebates, leaving a net price of ~$350.00.

Is this right? Can anyone confirm?
