im SR 97 in just about anything.
if i play FFA i'm against FZ, unnamedtony or Trajan (when he shows up) (im in EU)
if im playing CA i'm against Bauro, Oxide, or even Strenx (when he plays CA).
i'm tired of spawning on top of Asylum and getting railed 4 times before i can hit the ground.
quake is good practice for .. hmm .. anything which has a mouse in it.
but i've had enough of playing *only* vs people with 15+ years of experience.
oh, the reason of the ^^ is that the "pros" from my QL clan refuse to play anything else, even CS. Same same, BLR is full of casuals who can't tell their m_yaw from their m_pitch.
Compared to the dross we get there, yeah, i'm pretty awesome.
you know what, i don't have a lot to do, so let's make this post into a QL rant.
there's people that play ONLY bloodrun.(same goes for campgrounds.)
you can go in their history and all they ever do, every day, is play bloodrun duel. you cannot get these people to ever play anything else and if you do (and probably spank them) they whine that "it's not a duel map".
or "this map doesnt have rail, i play rail"(/quit)
or "i only play aerowalk; me: i dont have pro, i dont know how to do the RA jump. them: lets play aerowalk, its fun. i only play aerowalk"
QL is full of assholes who would rather crush a noob than have a fair match.
(not to mention tier slummers)
people i play with generally average 55% railgun, 38%+ LG. IN CLAN ARENA.
bridge to rail, without CPMA. and ofc circle strafe and all other manners of strafe jumping.
your manual ability determines even how fast you move. QL is 100% mouse skill and 0% tactics.
In CA the only viable tactic is "lets go there 2v1 and beat him up". you're not gonna find many tacticians in QL, even "dont block me" and "don't leave me 2v1" is too hard a concept for many players.
your model moves faster than the rockets, dodge is instantaneous, your model has no inertia whatsoever. you are never where you seem to be, as long as you can press *any* key faster than your enemy's ping.
essentially QL is constantly moving little circles with teh mouse, spamming A and D while jumping,
and randomly pressing any move button when someone is shooting at you. *constantly*
when playing duel in something like house of decay, you are literally playing vs your opponent's fingers. There is NO tactical choice you can make which can force a decision from your opponent.
having one pixel exposed or the whole body makes no difference whatsoever. positionings don't matter. all that matters is timing your items and moving faster than your enemy (again, getting that extra PQL speed).
In T3 there's people now playing with 51 handicap, they are so terrorized of going to T4.
In F2P mode, there's horribad map rotation. People in T3 CA will vote dreadwerkz, then crouch in the top corner in the corner near the TP, in the fog/long JP room, until the timer runs out, or until their own teammates go there and bounce them in the fog out of desperation. playing 25 minute dreadwerkz CA matches is no fun.
(i haven't seen a T3 FFA game in .. 4 years?)
sure i had lots of fun with my clan; but it's £40 a year sub (thank you paypal) and it's always the same 10 guys, always the same rail shot, always the same rocketjump on the same 4 maps. trying to vote in something like hells gate or asylum is a miracle you have to beg for.
quake's skillcap is artificially high, just like if i made you do coding with your head in a bucket of water. with the weapons models it has, you can fill a tiny corridor with balls of plasma and never hit the one guy walking right in the middle of it. you still have to compensate for lag (yeah, unlagged my ass) and with the ridiculous "move models first, weapons later" anything which has a prestep must be aimed vectorially. try shooting a PG at someone while you're both on a JP and then tell me.
sorry buddy, but games with classes, equipment, environments, objectives, are so much better than quake. hitscan automatic weapons that actually do something and models with inertia are just better. you still have a skillcap, but it involves more than aim. for example, getting caught outside of cover, you can't just spam dodge, since thats enough to *never* be hit. by someone standing right in front of you, firing a full-auto, constant beam of lightning right in the center of your model.
intuition, use of cover, deployment of tools, teamplay, resources, all things which quake doesnt have.
its ok for a game made in 1998, but it belongs in the past.
(my latest and best KDR in a full 8v8 BLR match, tiny map - 43/2. yeah im pretty good, when *thinking* actually does something to your game)
