i'll be waiting to see the comparisons again with the retail game before deciding on a version I think. At least to get a better idea. The beta looks pretty similar between the PC and XB1 in terms of textures.

I'm hoping since textures were 25% reduced that the full PC game will look a little better. I'm going to wait until we get some gameplay after release then I'll most likely get it since I need a new game to play on PC.

Even if the beta textures were 75% reduced, the final game would be very disappointing to look at with full resolution...
but, even if the textures were reduced, why does it still use an absurd amount of vram in beta?

The most fun shooters for me is large scale teamwork, like planetside 2 before they trashed it or battlefield 3. I was really hoping for at least 24v24 in this game... Titanfail indeed

So 6v6 + NPCs isn't for everyone. *shrug*

All I know is that I couldn't give two shits about textures (moving too fast to notice), and from the multiple beta reviews on youtube it looks like a helluva lot of good 'ol FPS fun. I'll wait for reviews, but the beta has certainly sold me on the concept and mechanics.

You guys are complaining about install space now???

They should have had less maps, to save space... Oh wait, gamers would bitch about that.
They should have used lower res textures to save space ... Oh wait, gamers would bitch about that.
They should have used lower sound quality to save space ... Oh wait, gamers would bitch about that..

Seriously, no matter what they do, someone will complain.

Game was hella fun, played REALLY well, and the graphics are good enough that I don't care when I'm in battle.

The space requirement is surprising, but, it's not like I don't have plenty of room on the HDD...

Yup. I gotta hand it to them, I had so much damn fun in the beta that it successfully convinced me to pre-order the game. The beta may as well have been a demo for me. I anticipated that it would be good from the beginning, but after actually getting to play it, it actually managed to exceed my expectations. Dare I say it's one of the most exciting multiplayer experiences I've ever had. I'd call that a success.

Technically-speaking, it's not going to be as pretty as Battlefield 4 or Crysis 3... it is running on a 10-year-old engine after all. But that doesn't matter much when I'm wallrunning up skyscrapers and plugging rockets into giant mechs at high speed. The developers seem to have their priorities in good order. The time and effort that would have gone into making a singleplayer campaign has instead gone into creating a higher-quality multiplayer experience. I'm 100% okay with that.

Best pre-order deal right now seems to be GamersGate, where you can get $12 back in-store credit, effectively making the game $48. GameFly had a promo earlier where you could pre-order Titanfall for $48 straight up, but unfortunately that's over now. GMG also had a limited-time $10-off coupon a few days ago but that ended (they have a $7-off coupon for existing customers at the moment, but that's not as good). The game still has two weeks until release, so there is definitely a chance some of those deals will come back.

From now on I will post any good pre-order deals if I see them.

Yea it definitely was a fun beta. Please do post any deals you find. At first I may be skeptical since its only multiplayer but it really had me logging in every day just to play because it was so fun.

Agreed! I was curious, but not a ton of interest from me. I'm just not into FPS games very much anymore, especially multiplayer. It's literally been years since I've played one for more than a couple of hours.

But the Titanfall beta changed that. It made me realize that it's not that I don't care for multiplayer FPS games, but that I don't care for the BF4 and COD games. I found myself trying to milk every minute out of the Titanfall beta. And then I honestly missed it when it was ripped out from underneath me.

Oh well... Two more weeks!

I think he was talking about back in the day in Doom 2, Quake 1-3, UT etc you didn't unlock anything. You started with a base pistol, a base amount of health and armor and as you progressed you got the better armor and new weapons. In the DM side you could pick up anything and use it. You were never at a disadvantage because you didn't unlock the Ultra Death Ray Instagib 1000, with the extended 9999shot magazine and 2million zoom lense scope.

People played shooters for years and years without ever having to unlock weapons and accessories. They kept playing because learning the map and getting better was a fun challenge. Now they design the game so that you're so weak that you have to play 20 hours just to get anything good.

I read that the beta had some bad mouse smoothing and stuff on the PC. How bad was it for those of you who played it? I'm trying to gather as much information as I can before release so I can pick the platform to buy it on.

Here's my problem with the last 5 posters logic...
Did you even play the beta? The weapons you start with ARE good. The rifle class? Good. The shotgun? It's good. The smart pistol? It's fucking good. It's seems to me there is more balance in this game than any fps that has come out, and if you suck then you suck, maybe you need to play for 20 hours to be good at anything but after I played the game for 20 minutes I was running lobbies because the starting guns are not bad and the unlocks for every gun has a weakness and a strength. The smg had a faster fire rate unlock that sacrificed damage and accuracy. Picking up weapons on the map is more unfair in my opinion because in games like halo if the other team picks up the "power" weapons you're fucked until those weapons respawn, and in most situations people are going to be camping the power weapon spawn just to get it. Leveling up in an fps only makes sense, why wouldn't you want to work towards SOMETHING??? Maybe I'm just too open minded? Also it feels like there are dedicated servers, unlike COD when you can tell someone has "host" and their connection affects the entire game... I just didn't see that in the beta, as a matter of fact the beta servers felt more established and stable than any multiplayer game I've played in years. Anyway I know this rant will change nobody's mind because everyone here in gaming is stubborn as fuck and once you've made up your mind, thats it, but jesus christ what kind of games do you actually play if there's a problem with everything that comes out? Stick to you SNES for all I care, there will just be less assholes on xbox when I try to sit down and enjoy something.

The comparison there's not fair, seeing as Titanfallis about to launch and there hasn't been a true Quake game since 2005 (Quake Wars was 2007). I mean, if I was told that we'll get a Quake 5 as soon as an AT forums thread about it hits 500 posts, I'd be posting non-stop for the next 2 days to make that happen.
look m8, i'm pretty good at quake. i've hit the soft cap you can get after getting 100k frags. from here on, it's small improvements year by year.
so, i think i know what i'm saying when we talk quake - i'm not some casual who just went in and quit after 10 frags.

quake has done its time.. its just been replaced by better games.
sure, some things might horrify you, but you and another 500 guys think quake is awesome, and me and another half million think titanfall is where it's at.

as far as empirical truths go, i've pretty sure i'm right and you are .. not.

now, back to titanfall.

in my opinions, the weapons are a bit generic - some assault rifles, all with no recoil whatsoever, a shotgun, a instakill gun with bad range and slow TTK, rockets which do zero splash damage, and some decent, non-OP nades.

movement is fantastic - you can CPMA your way to happiness around people who still expect you to move in 2D - and the use powers are well balanced.
personally, i have problems with visuals (i have a hard time finding enemies .. thats why the pistol helps me, because it tracks for me), but that will pass with experience.

the two maps i've seen are ok, just kinda small. again, we'll see when the game comes out.
as far as enjoyable, generic and somewhat casual shooters "with benefits" (for skilled players), it's great.

on the front of old-skool competitive, this is not really what you want. but it's like complaining that American Gladiators doesn't have any actual deaths in it: we're not looking at an old-skool hardcore competitive shooter, because OSHCSs have "its not fun" issues, deriving from - as said before - the artificially high skillcap, which comes from the fact that the game itself "isn't really good".

and yeah, i've had enough of people shooting from their heads or FoV coming from your chest. i want modern games, not that old school stuff.

But ofc QL is still there, you can play it any time (it's F2P). Don't detract from TtF with the argument "it's not quake", because, go play quake.

If you *also* don't like quake, and want TtF, AND you have some opinions on why TtF is better than quake/counterstrike/painkiller/unreal etc BUT want something different in it, then this is the thread for you.

Ah, the good old complaining about complaining. Maybe we should make this into two threads, one for praise and one for critique? Just so we don't get in each others way.

Ah, the good old complaining about complaining.
1) That is quite possibly the stupidest retort that is parroted time and again on this message board (and many others...)
2) It's not complaining. Just pointing out the obvious truth.

I dunno why people think games over time will become smaller. Although with no sp, you have more room for expanding mp levels and mechanics.

Actually what you did is generalize all complaints as if they come from a single person, which is the actual truth. People complain about different things, including others complaining. It's not one "gamer" making all the complaints.

Titanfall has dedicated servers, they are hosted by Microsoft's cloud service. So it's not a p2p connection but you also don't get the benefits of a 'real' dedicated server. There is no way to host your own server so you can't change things like map rotation, number of players, score/time limit etc.

As for ranking up/unlocking weapons, I myself don't really care much but I don't play games to level up. I play them because it's fun to match your skills/wits against other players. And yes, the default weapons are good, but we don't know which other weapons or upgrades there will be.

It looked a lot like complaining, but thanks for pointing out the obvious truth. I'm sure many missed it.

You'd be surprised. This is the internet, a lot of people pull up pointless nitpicks just to validate themselves; obvious truth be damned.

I assure you no one who buys titanfall and plays it is going to significantly care about hard drive footprint or non-super-duper textures. So that leaves people who, for those reasons, are not buying the game. Complaints like that from people who aren't buying/playing the game in the first place is like listening to a baseball fan bitch about how ugly football uniforms are. No one wants to hear it except other bitchy baseball fans.

The only thing I think games need today specifically on the PC, is a way to host a dedicated server yourself for your friends to use. It might not be used often but it's an overlooked feature that can be quite useful for people.

..just guessing, but i think private servers will be available when the game comes out (or at some later date with patches).
still hosted on cloud servers ofc, but you get to pick your own mutators and you admin the lobby. most games today do it like that.

Yeah, to me private servers are an essential feature of multiplayer shooters. Without them a game is all but guaranteed to die soon after the sequel comes out. Private servers put that decision in the hands of the player base.

I really enjoyed playing the Beta and had already pre-ordered, so it just solidified my decision. The gameplay was fun and I actually felt like it was better to be on the move running and jumping than to hide out like in COD. I'm excited to see the entire arsenal of weapons and extras because I think there will be some very interesting stuff. Playing with the Titan in follow mode is just so much fun for me, since most enemies will concentrate on shooting the Titan so I just pick them off.

The only thing I wasn't happy about was the bots in the game. Killing one of them just feels like you wasted perfectly good ammunition for nothing. I want to kill other gamers, not AI creations.

This whole thread started with a complaint in the first place. But the title was changed so I guess that excuses you.

Anyway, you guys made me change my mind, I love everything about this game. 12 players max is just right and we don't need real dedicated servers. Killing the npc guys is lots of fun and even if it was twice the size I would still buy it. Anyone that complains about any of these things just doesn't have a clue (don't try to discuss it, it's a fact).
