It is a mix between COD and Halo. So, not a traditional arena shooter, but as close as we're going to get.

Yeah, I don't get the Halo comparisons myself. I'd just say CoD with mechs and vertical movement, because even giving it a comparison to arena shooters is sketchy.

Have you played Halo? This game is a lot like it. It is a futuristic setting (advanced weaponry) with maps that have a large vertical component (very similar to Halo, very different from COD) with a lot of movement. It also has a powerful, yet vulnerable vehicle component.

It just has a more COD feel because of the TTK, loadouts, and rather than shield, we get recharging life.

Quake 3 Arena had bots. Titanfall has the FPS equivalent of creeps from MOBAs.

Exactly. "Bots" are intended to replace human competitors. This is not the intention of the minions in Titanfall.

bots are bait for bad players.
hopefully you should have realized this after playing the beta for 5 days.
1) bots are practically useless vs players.
2) yes, they do give points vs your titan, but while you are busy killing them, other players will take you down.

otoh player vs player is really nice with the 3d maps and parkour abilities, cloak, and varied loadouts. titans are just a extra tactical choice you have to make. when inside, you can only really fight titans and bots. players can avoid you, shoot at you with anti-titan weapons, and rodeo you.
you do score more when you kill another titan, though.

so, rush in, nade some bots, run behind the enemy lines, kill a pilot or two, spawn your titan, set it on guard mode, and repeat.
If the enemy gets titans out, get inside your own titan, kill them, then get out again.

I still disagree with the assessment. Halo's maps play vertically, but the characters really don't, unless you use the terrible Jet Pack. Call of Duty's maps (particularly on Black Ops II) have verticality themselves, and they even have some climbing mechanics. I'd also say that the Titans more-closely resemble a guaranteed version of high-end CoD Killstreaks than even Halo 4's Mantis vehicles.

On top of that, I'd still say that the general map layout (particularly the City one) in Titanfall is more CoD-style. Halo never really gives you vehicular combat on its smaller maps. They usually save it for large maps like Longbow or Valhalla, maps where they could fit a few mechs before it felt cramped (where as Titanfall seems to get there quickly).

Then there's the general gunplay. Halo reserves the ADS mechanics for scoped weapons, like the Battle Rifle, DMR, Sniper, Pistol, and their alien variants. Titanfall favors the ironsight ADS of the more-modern military shooters. I guess it might just be that you see something that I don't, because I don't find it to be Halo-esque at all.

Would if I could, but it's going to get here before I'm willing to consider it. I can't stand giving EA money, so I'd ideally have them put it in the next AMD bundle, and I'd grab a 280X or something at the start of the summer, if possible.

If it does make it to a bundle I've been thinking of going to a 290x later so that would be good. I'm on the fence about it even though I had a good time in the beta. For me, since I'm not so good at multiplyer because I only get limited amount of game time, it's a game I can hop on and play on my own against others without feeling like I'm not getting anywhere. Thats because of how it plays and I think the titans do make it easier.

They need larger maps, availability to pick more weapons without unlocks, and different game modes.

Then there is infamous and other games coming out in March which I know I'll be getting. But this game would be great if they had those changes especially if you play with a decent amount of team members.

well i got to lvl 14 in the beta, saw the unlocks that i got, used a couple burn cards, was able to be good enough to win a couple matches and i called it quit for the beta

really excited to start playing it once its released with the new modes, titans and maps, as well as that kind of story thing they say they will implement.

What happens if the community falls apart in a few months? That's the problem with some games these days. Popular for a while and then after everyone has had their fun, people start dropping it for some other game that is new. That and you might be at a disadvantage against people who are all leveled up. Hard to say on the pc. I am sure on xb1 it'll be popular for a while cause they dont have a catalog of games yet.

On a different note I am starting to think that some of the technical limitations of the game don't come from the old engine but because it was developed for the 360 as well. Things like poor textures etc. Once developers drop last gen console support, things should be a lot better.

My point was that it is neither fresh nor original.
