How good/bad are these CD-Rs in terms of shelf life? Don't want to lose my data in an year if the layering starts coming off or something.

Just asking: how do you know they are crappy? The website says there is a lifetime warranty on these CD-Rs.

I know this is kinda off topic, but what is the best deal for quality CDr's. I need to purchase online. MR is fine but no PMing. I need to do this today, just realized I only have 2 blanks.

Hey ActiveX & Swage,
What is it exactly that makes these CDRs crap? Have you used them before and found them not to work? Or had them around so long that they fell apart and lost all your data? or what?????

And for those of you who are interested here is a link to the page with the rebates. It is third from the bottom. Make sure that you mail your rebate right away as it says on the rebate "must be postmarked 7 days from purchase". Rebate

Anyone know what kind of CD-Rs are the best of the best? Like gold bottom or platinum bottom or something...where could one get those if they so desired?

I have burnt 10 VCD's with these so far at 16x with not a single problem. I think they are fine for non-critical data. Besides, 5 years from now if these do flake, the data I have now won't be needed in a home non-critical environment.

I've burnt 6 or so at 24x with no problem. They do show up fingerprints very easy on the top. They also seem a bit thicker then normal for me. I have a slot load DVD/CD player and it feels tighter when I load them. Play fine! For back up on my music CD's, I see no reason not to use them. For this price, it's a nice deal.

rebate requires "original officemax register rebate receipt", which is different from sales receipt. will this be a problem for online ordering? does it ship with one?

Being that your getting 200 unknown brand cdrs for $7.50 is too good of a deal to be true. These are the generic silver cd's you may have seen, after using them for a while, your cd will be covered with fingerprints, which is annoying. Been using tdk cdr's for 2 years now, only a handful failed on me, and most of those failures were from my mistakes.

Over at fat*****t there is a post about the 'lack of quality' of them. If you need to burn demo cd's to hand out to your friends, these are good. Would i put my data on them for archival purposes, probably not. Thats why I cancelled, went over to my local target, picked up 100 tdk 80 min cdrs for $25 including tax. Not bad deal.

They do show up fingerprints very easy on the top

There is a old saying, if its too good to be true....

I hope all who purchased these cdrs from om have good luck wih them.

This is one good cd-r sale =). Thx a lot for telling us this.

Just in case anyone cares, here are the results of CDR Media Code Identifier -

ATIP: 97m 26s 66f
Disc Manufacturer: CMC Magnetics Corp.
Reflective layer: Dye (Short strategy; e.g. Phthalocyanine)
Media type: CD-Recordable
Recording Speeds: min. unknown - max. unknown
nominal Capacity: 702.83MB (79m 59s 74f / LBA: 359849)

Same kind of dye scheme as the prime peripherals they sold before which I had excellent results from.

For comparison here is a Verbatim

ATIP: 97m 34s 21f
Disc Manufacturer: Mitsubishi Chemicals Corp.
Reflective layer: Dye (Long strategy; e.g. Cyanine, Azo etc.)
Media type: CD-Recordable
Recording Speeds: min. unknown - max. unknown
nominal Capacity: 702.83MB (79m 59s 74f / LBA: 359849)

is this the kind of discs that don't survive heat too well? the ones that form bubbles if you leave it in the car on a hot day.. And yes the finger-printing ones are annoying.

If you guys want some other free stuff to make it over $50, there is a Caller ID and corded phone free AR, and some pens free AR too, look into the supplies section and the corded phone section in technology.

Tell that to all the people who have gotten free or extremely low priced things from watching this deals site.

And thanks for the good wishes. I am sure I we will!

200 discs for $7 is still a good deal to me

every time someone asks me to make a copy of something - I'll take a disc from this stack
and I've been going to a lot of interviews lately - makes a really inexpensive business card that I can pass out my resume and work samples on. 3.5 cents a disc, can't beat that price when buying a quantity this large with just one rebate
