Too bad I don't have any use for one of these things or I'd be jumping right on it cause I think it will work. I think picking up the modem also though might not work as that could be considered an "other promotion".

You're braindead. It's free after rebate. The rebate applies to the item regardless of if it's purchased online or at a store, and the store price is $99 after INSTANT SAVINGS.

Here's the ad, Yellowbone:

Compusa $99 ad

It's $199 - $100 instant savings, plus tax. Then apply the $99 rebate.

It's free, plus any applicable tax.

At the CompUSA site it says the price is $99.99 after one or more rebates.
If you click on he price it says:
CompUSA Price: $99.99 Price after instant & mail-in rebates.

The rebate form says it is not combinable with any other offers.

When they get a receipt that shows $99.99 don't you think they will know you already got the rebate ? I mean the instant rebate isn't a big secret or anything.

I doubt they'll give a rat's arse about it. I've combined the instant savings and MIR at compusa before, it worked just fine.

YMMV.

Um...what is the valid purchase period for the MIR?

http://www.compusa.com/products/product_info.asp?tabtype=rb&product_code=285256#moreinfo
indicates 11/25/01

http://www.cusarebates.com/coupons/0144327.pdf (from MIR link off above page)
indicates 11/15/01

http://www.cusarebates.com/rebatedetails.asp?PromoID=0146317
indicates 11/24/01

http://www.cusarebates.com/coupons/0138506.pdf (from MIR link off above page)
indicates 12/1/01

Well, in the end, I would assume only those on the MIR slip will be what matters. That's good...it gives us a lot more time.

Well, the price won't tell them anything, the prices one compusa's reciepts don't say anything about instant rebates, just prices...

BUT the 'free' modem does require the visor purchase and IS a mail in rebate, so for what its worth, you won't get everything free.... then again, you could gamble and send the rebates in anyways, hope there isn't any cross referencing...

I think I'll pass on this one, after all, eventually you will have to pay for the modem service, and I hardly use my palm III anyways...

(few minutes later).....it is hard to say no to free though.....

I just picked this up for 99.99 at my local Skokie compusa. A few questions.
1. Will they really honor this MIR when it says:
A.Rebate value will not exceed purchase price.
B.This offer cannot be combined with any other offer on the same product. (though on the receipt it does not say anything about an instant
rebate)

2. If this thing comes with activelink which I thought was a kind of modem why would some one want a modem card that is free after rebate?

Thanks!:

Bad news people. Just got off the phone with Comp USA and they said that the $100 MIR is valid for web purchases only. It is a sad, sad day.

Ok, so I just got back from the CompUSA in Queens, NY. iwearnosox is COMPLETELY CORRECT! When you look at the FLYER, it says it is INSTANT SAVINGS. There is NO rebate. I've seen the website, yes, it is different. But all that matters is what they ring it up for at the register. Unfortunately, even though CompUSA's website said my store had it in stock, they did not. That was the first problem.

You can't always believe the webpages. If you look at the webpage for the rebate, it says the purchase has to be by November 24, 2001. That's today. But when you PRINT OUT the ACTUAL rebate form, it says the rebate is valid until December 1, 2001. Second problem from the webpage.

I asked one of the managers in the store about the deal for $0 and he was well aware of it. However, he said the the website check on inventory is frequently wrong and is even worse during the Black Friday weekend because so much is changing in inventory in such a short period of time. He said they $99 deal on the Activelink and Handspring Deluxe MIGHT continue after today, but he wasn't sure. I didn't press him on it. If it's available for $99 between tomorrow and December 1, 2001, I will buy it.

Is it possible that they won't honor the rebate? Yeah, I guess it is POSSIBLE. But the rebate does not say that to qualify you must have paid a particular price for the product. It simply says you have to show proof of purchasing a particular item in a particular time period. That's it.

All those people who are getting pissed off over the fine print better look again. You didn't research close enough. The deal is real and the winners are the ones who paid attention and got a little lucky with the availability. Now go back to bed with your cookies and milk. Mommy will tuck you in in a minute or two.

Enough said.

Riiight. The phone reps are now rebate experts. Call back and talk to some other csr's, I bet you get different replies.

The rebate terms are quite clear and do not mention such a limitation. My bet is that this deal works and the person you spoke to hasn't a clue.

The vizor is 99.99 + taxes out the door. After that you can send in for the MIR which is up to $100 in our case 99.99
That's a very hot deal

Just went to Compusa before it closed. It's $199.99 with a $100 Instant Rebate. Total for me is $106.99.

I'm reading the rebate form right now and it has no mention of activation or requirement of buying from compusa.com. The rebate should and will work.

Well, thank you Xtreme, all the deal bashers need to get a life. If this comes through (and after reading the rebate I see no reason why it will not) then this is a crazy deal, similar to the free HP932c printer and the good old days>

I walked into my podunct town compusa equipted with the SKU of the combo in question. Low and behold in the compusa glass case are 5 of the active link deluxe visor combos. I ask then to scan them for me, and look out the price is $99.99. Well I get two and my brother gets one. As I am checking out I see the free after rebate ($50.00 MIR) xircom modem for this visor as well. Unfortunately they only have one modem in stock, but a really nice manager allows me to prebuy another modem and my brother to prebuy one as well on todays (Nov 26th date) date on the same receipt as the visor. They will contact me when it comes in stock.

The crazy part is while we are waiting to get the prebuys, someone else walks in to the store and buys the remaining two combos and does the same thing for the modem rebate. On the way out I make sure he knows about the other $100 rebate, he says yes, he just saw the deal on this site of course. First time I've seen another anandtecher in my parents 90,000 person town..

Hehe, no more left in one rural Tx town.

The kicker is that the rebate form I have saved as a pdf File says all it requires is a copy of the UPC code for the $100 rebate, which for the experienced members of the audience, means you should be able to get both the modem $50 (with original UPC) and the $100 for the visor (with a copy). Rebate also states valid for up to 2 per household . Net price today $162.85 after tax with $150 in rebates coming. No mention of needing to activate the special activelink addon... Thank you free visor and modem.

THank you Dx-Treme for the heads up. The deal is good.

199-100IR(instore) -100 mail-in....simple as that.

The store is selling for 99.99, simple as that. My receipt says so.

I really appreciate you posting this deal. Don't be too frustrated with the retards who can't figure things out.

It's amazing how some people are so ignorant.

Tip: Goto the store, it rings up for 99.99, doesn't matter what it says on the tag on the shelf.

Don't call and alert them and phuck it up for everyone else. :frown:

Just picked up the last two in my local store. In fact, there are 2 upc bar codes on the package. So one for free modem, one for $100 MIR. Thanks DX.

Hope y'all make out on these things. Since I am so far from a CUSA, I checked their website where the Handspring is (surprise!) SOLD OUT.

However, I copied the following from the rebate page:

Current Rebate:
Valid From: 11/23/01
Valid To: 11/25/01
Rebate Details:
Regular Retail Price: $199.99

You Pay: $199.99 Price after instant rebates, if any
-$100.00 Mfr. Mail-in Rebate

CompUSA Price: $99.99 Price after instant & mail-in rebates

That is not my opinion; it is a straight copy from the CUSA Rebate Detail.

Best of luck; all I can do is get an old Palm 100 for driving around in an Infiniti next week!
