Ok, so I just got back from the CompUSA in Queens, NY. iwearnosox is COMPLETELY CORRECT! When you look at the FLYER, it says it is INSTANT SAVINGS. There is NO rebate. I've seen the website, yes, it is different. But all that matters is what they ring it up for at the register. Unfortunately, even though CompUSA's website said my store had it in stock, they did not. That was the first problem.
You can't always believe the webpages. If you look at the webpage for the rebate, it says the purchase has to be by November 24, 2001. That's today. But when you PRINT OUT the ACTUAL rebate form, it says the rebate is valid until December 1, 2001. Second problem from the webpage.
I asked one of the managers in the store about the deal for $0 and he was well aware of it. However, he said the the website check on inventory is frequently wrong and is even worse during the Black Friday weekend because so much is changing in inventory in such a short period of time. He said they $99 deal on the Activelink and Handspring Deluxe MIGHT continue after today, but he wasn't sure. I didn't press him on it. If it's available for $99 between tomorrow and December 1, 2001, I will buy it.
Is it possible that they won't honor the rebate? Yeah, I guess it is POSSIBLE. But the rebate does not say that to qualify you must have paid a particular price for the product. It simply says you have to show proof of purchasing a particular item in a particular time period. That's it.
All those people who are getting pissed off over the fine print better look again. You didn't research close enough. The deal is real and the winners are the ones who paid attention and got a little lucky with the availability. Now go back to bed with your cookies and milk. Mommy will tuck you in in a minute or two.
Enough said.
