I went back and got the modem!! Had to drive a little and got the last one! But they had no rebate coupon for the modem. Can somebody PM me and send a photocopy or a scan of the modem rebate? Thanks, and thanks again DX!!

I just drove over 100 miles roundtrip for this deal. I got two. They did not have the modem in stock and they told me to simply come back with the reciept and they will honor the modem price/rebate when it is back in stock. Thanks very much. Also 3 months of AOL Hell for free. (I signed up and will cancel at the end of the 3 month period)

great deal DX.
I started following this thread when it was first posted and was kind of pissed that some self-appointed deal police wanted the thread title changed and stuff.

Anyway, I am glad DX continued to give details about the deal in spite of the bashing and I picked up two of these visors at the Burbank store. They still had 4 more left. No modems in stock though.

Visual inventory check at Tukwila, WA - 2 left as of 8:40 PM Nov 24
No modems in stock (why do u need the modem, isn't the package complete
with a wireless modem ?)
Price of $99.99 is valid till Nov 25.

Thanks for finding the rebate.

Now we have 14 days (return period) to check out
(by people calling corporate CUSA, rebate center etc.)
if we can pull this off. Obviously CUSA doesn't want us
to have this for free but they forgot to include a "online
only" clause on the rebate form. My guess is that they will try to
take shelter under the "not valid with any other offer" clause.

Let the phones start ringing

I know that me typing this is not going to stop people calling Compusa corporate, but...

Why alert them to this? Just send in your rebate. Make copies of everything. Send in the rebate form, a copy of your receipt, and a copy of the UPC code just like the rebates states. If they do not send you the rebate, then you call your local compusa and show them your copies/scans showing how you did everything right. Most likel your local compusa will then take care of you if you did not get the rebate.

If compusa gets involved they will try to get around paying the rebate. However, if no one calls, it very easily could just slip through the cracks. The rebate center will not check to see if you bought at Compusa.com or a B&M store unless this difference is brought to their attention. Additionally, the price shown on the website is now $99. It appears that you could get it for $99 before rebate (ie free) by sending in the rebate from compusa.com if they only listed it as instock. So please, just try and get the deal. Do not alert them to this. The way people always get the best deals is by slipping under the corporate cracks.

For hot deal newbies, the only people that got the infamous anandtech hot deal forum spawning buy.com hitachi monitor deal were those that ordered next day shipping and had their monitors shipped before corporate caught on.

This is not a plain old mfgrs mail-in rebate. It's a CompUSA rebate.

There's no mention of any mfgrs rebate at the PalmGear site and they sell the same bundle. There is also no mention of it at Handspring or Glenayre.

CompUSA isn't going to give a $99 rebate twice.

From www.techb@rgains.c0m , Thanks @ssh0les.

Update: "I went to CompUSA at 8:45 tonight and spoke with the store manager regarding the $100 rebate, since this seemed to be too good of a deal. He said that all of the stores were notified to pull the rebate forms and to give the $100 instant savings instead, and he said that CompUSA would refuse to honor the $100 rebate form printed from the website unless they charged me $199.99 for the Visor at the store. Supposedly the instant rebate takes the place of the $100 mail in rebate, and they will send you a rejection notice if you buy it for $99.99 and submit the $100 rebate form." (Thanks Howard)

and you guys want me to credit this piece of cr@p ? also i dun see any credit goes to me there. I am not complaining but dont crap on my treads taken from there.

BY the way, no worries as there is simply impossible to inform all the COMPUSA STORES. WHY ?

1) its saturday thanksgiving weekend, no one is in HQ

2) how do they call and inform ALL of the other stores in the whole of USA

3) Is the manager above the CEO of COMP USA ? Does he/she make all the decisions for comp usa ?

4) would he/she go thru so much troubles just for one measley closeout item ?

Anyways, i suggest you buy it quickly before monday and send the rebate out on next week.

Nowhere on the form does it require purchase at $199.99 so compusa can easily get into troubles if they dont honor our rebate

Heheh. Dx-treme is already trying to shift the blame for the misinformation in this thread to CompUSA when they couldn't have been more clear. Hilarious.

no body is trying to shift blame to nobody. Personally i am confident 100% the rebate will definetly come thru. the savings from compusa is Instant in store saving and it is not a rebate in any form.

Anyway, just becoz you cannot find one in your store , dont crap on the tread.

For those who still can't accept that the kit will be free after rebate:

Check out the Glenayre web site, or the product link on the box - IT NO LONGER EXISTS! Plus, CompUSA is the ONLY STORE WITH THIS BUNDLE!

In other words, the product has been discontinued, and they are trying to get rid of them - why is that so hard to understand?

Someone should tell PalmGear and Amazon.

Hey, the ad does not mention a rebate. It said instant savings. The rebate is legally good and compusa does not have a leg to stand on. They must honor the rebate.

Am I missing something? Is there still a mail-in-rebate that is valid for purchases on
Sunday, Nov 25th?

I just read through the rebate form and it must have been purchased by yesterday.

Please point me in the direction of a valid rebate for purchases today...

Thanks

Anthony

Just download the PDF rebate file, it'll say valid until 12/1/01 when you open it up.

DX - have you ever heard of email? It's a hot new technology where you can communicate with all of your company sites at once ---- WITHIN SECONDS!!! Yeah, it's crazy I know, but it's out there...

The only loophole on the $100 rebate is "This offer cannot be combined with any offer on the same product." The only other offers are the modem rebate (which I still need the form for, hint, hint) and the instant savings. Seems to me that the modem isn't the "same product" and the instant savings isn't an "offer." On a sister anandtech thread, the OD one, a guy says his $100 rebate has reached "approved" status!

right, the manager will have the email address to all of the other COMP USA store managers in the whole USA.

most he can do is to email the HQ and let the HQ do the work but HQ IS NOT OPEN SATURDAY OR SUNDAY !
