Flash forward to CompUSA HQ on Monday Morning...

"Good Morning Joe, We made a killing on Black Friday with our gimmick ads. Didn't we?"

"Sure did Boss!" Joe

"Well time to check my emails." Boss

"WTF???? Who is responsible for this error? Joe you are so fired!" Boss

>>>right, the manager will have the email address to all of the other COMP USA store managers in the whole USA.<<<

Are you aware that it IS possible to send 1 message to a preset group of email addresses? Spammers do it all the time.

I personally believe that the manager you referred to is blowing smoke, however, I also believe that a dose of reality as to the possibilities is in order...and the fact is that it IS possible to disseminate information to a large number of locations instantly, in several ways.

SUre, its call an address book. In general business practicality i dont think there are such info exsits on every store level. The only place i ve seen such system implemented is in a huge company where i worked as a programmer.

The manager job is to supervise the local workers and deal with special instore problems. I do not think when he open up his outlook or lotus notes, he has a list of all store managers in the USA email address.

It can be done sure, but i dont think compusa store level had that service. Even the inventory system that they use are running on some old mainframe (look at their terminals).

" went to CompUSA at 8:45 tonight and spoke with the store manager regarding the $100 rebate, since this seemed to be too good of a deal. He said that all of the stores were notified to pull the rebate forms and to give the $100 instant savings instead, and he said that CompUSA would refuse to honor the $100 rebate form printed from the website unless they charged me $199.99 for the Visor at the store. "

The manager received the E-mail. He didn't send it.

WTF! Is this guy still crapping on this deal. We heard you loud and clear. Move on. I don't care what the store manager said. The ad clearly states instant savings, not instant rebate. And the pdf file says purchase by 12/1/01 and that's on their own website. Move on please.

P.S. My reciept does not mention anything about discount, rebate, or instant savings. Just the price of $99.99.

Thats even better !! only 1 store manager got the cancellation notice coz everyone elses went thru without any problems ! if they have the superior email system how come only 1 manager knows about it ?? hahaha

Kewl, you are just sore that you do not managed to snag one for yourself arent you. Yes, we know you are. Sorry fella, we all can give u a hug if you ask nicely. Now go crap somewhere else and go away already.

From the fine print:

<< Rebate value will not exceed purchase price. >>

What exactly does this mean? Will they send us a check for $99.99 (or whatever it cost), or will they deny the rebate?

It would mean to any reasonable person that the rebate would be for $99.99. If compusa meant something else they should of been more specific.

sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!
I picked up the last one in store. Saw several guys holding a rebate form wondering in front of the PDA counter.
Thanks alot DX. Dont let that retard ruine the holiday

Question: that active link, is it a modem already? can I use it dial other ISP or it's for skytel only? If skytel only, I'd better pick up that free modem now. Oh BTW, do I need to have a receipt showing visor bundle and the free modem together to ask for modem $50 rebate?

Got last 2 from my store this morning, was waiting there at the open. Lots of others standing in line, gladly nobody else up on the deal. Manager looked little ticked at me , seemed like he knew what was up but defenseless. Anyway, mucho thx to the original poster.

Heheh. Dx-treme is already trying to shift the blame for the misinformation in this thread to CompUSA when they couldn't have been more clear. Hilarious.
>>

This guy is crazy. First of all, DX has been extremely helpful in giving valuable information and not misinformation. Secondly, CompUSA COULD definitely have been more clear. The website says one thing and the print ad says another thing. How is that so clear? Maybe this guy is some kind of genius and the rest of us are all freakin bozos.

reported from the a user from another forum

< Just got back from our brand new CompUSA in Greenville, SC, and they had stacks of these things out. The instant $100 off was still good and the associate I spoke with talked to his GM for me and said that if I had problems with either the $100 MIR or the $50 Modem MIR, then bring it to them and they will straighten it out for me. Just thougth I would update everyone!

Cananybody tell me how good are compusa rebates? Are they as efficient as staples rebates or do they take a long time to come like bestbuy rebates?

FOrgot to add this in my earlier post, the price was marked as $99.99 on the box, no mention of instant price rebate anywhere.

I just picked up one from the Columbia, MD store. There were two left when I walked out. I didn't bother with the free modem (can't afford to tie up any more $ on MIR), but will definitely send in the Visor MIR. If it comes, I'll consider it a Christmas present. If not, it was still a good deal at $99 (no PM, no MIR, no headache, took all of 5 mins). Hum, perhaps I should have picked up two like some of you .

Just got back from the Bellevue, WA store. Got there within 5 minutes of them opening, one guy from Anadtech already @ the PDA counter with one. The employee's had to search for them, but later came out with a sealed case. (Im guessing 12 in it)
I think about 7 or 8 left when I was leaving the store 10:30am.

Thanks for the deal!!

Just got back from compusa. Got the Xircom rebate and it says you have to buy the Visor by 11-24-01 to get the rebate on the modem. FYI

Forgot to mention that while the CSR was ringing me up, he asked me if I wanted their extended warranty. According to him, it even covers the case where you drop the PDA. Furthermore, Handspring is supposedly phasing out the Visor Deluxe, so if you need a replacement in 6 months, they'll probably give you the next model up, the Neo (supposedly twice as fast as the Deluxe). One year is $30 something and two years is $60 something. He said I had 14 days to think about it. Anyone thoughts on this extended warranty?
