I would think that they want the UPC code from the package since it states ActiveLink/Handspring and the SKU# 285256 on the upc label. As far as being able to send copies for the Xircon modem, it does state "copies of the sales receipt and UPC code" which would imply copies of both. I also purchased six other items from CompUsa with rebates and three of them state "copies of sales receipt and UPC code" .They are the 100 activelink rebate, the Maxtor drive ($40), and the Xircon modem ($50). The EPO 52X drive ($20) and the ($20) Best data modem states "A copy of your sales receipt and a copy of your UPC code", which seems straightforward. The $5 Avery CD label and the$10 Belkin USB hub states" a copy of your sales receipt and the original UPC label", also straightforward. Not consistent with their requests, are they?

Here's a question. Would they ever deny a rebate because you sent in the original UPC instead of the requested "copy". Would they constitute that as being an incomplete form and thus give reason for denial of your rebate?

To make matters more confusing, the EPO 52X drive wants a "copy of the UPC code Cut from the package. That's on the back of the rebate form and the request is slightly different than the front. What do you do, cut the UPC code out, then copy it? Hmmmm.... very strange. Any input to this confusion???

Ok this is confusing, when u click on the rebates tab at the compusa site. Theres a total of 3 of them.
The first rebate start is 10/02/01 - 11/16/01 ----- This rebate is valid 9/25 - 12/01
The second rebate start is 11/18 - 11/21 --------- This rebate is valid 9/25 - 11/15
Last rebate start is 11/23 - 11/25 --------------------- This rebate is valid 9/25 - 11/15

So wtf is going here? I am soo confused. I realize that the actual rebate is still somewhat active, but just look at those 3 rebates starts and finishes, they all funked up.

SOMEONE STRAIGHTEN ME OUT!!!! =(

I noticed that as well, Beerinator, I think that is just an error on the webmasters part. It does not affect anything with the rebates however, the rebate is their, just the webmaster goofed

The price on the website has changed from $99.99 to $199.99 and it says SOLD OUT! But there seems to be inventory in the CUSA in my area. I wonder if it will still ring up $99.99 when I make the purchase...

I think the ad flyer had it on sale only until the 25th for 99.99.

Bad news, people:

Taking directly from Techbargains

Update: "I went to CompUSA at 8:45 tonight and spoke with the store manager regarding the $100 rebate, since this seemed to be too good of a deal. He said that all of the stores were notified to pull the rebate forms and to give the $100 instant savings instead, and he said that CompUSA would refuse to honor the $100 rebate form printed from the website unless they charged me $199.99 for the Visor at the store. Supposedly the instant rebate takes the place of the $100 mail in rebate, and they will send you a rejection notice if you buy it for $99.99 and submit the $100 rebate form." (Thanks Howard)

Sheeze. That's the forth time that quote has been posted. Read the thread already and stop repeating the same crap. Why do people seem happier opening their mouths instead or their eyes.

Asking the store manager and the rebate center just invites trouble. A manager's job is to say no. The best way is to submit the rebate and complain like heck if it's denied, which it won't be. First the modem has it's own rebate and second, the ad is full of items with both an instant savings and a rebate. Additionally the ad is full of items that are free after rebate. This is one of them. Get a clue, unless you're trying to spoil the deal for the rest.

it's weird that for the visor they only want a copy of the UPC, right? I really don't care about cutting the UPC or whatever, but i don't wanna risk getting denied (this is one of the worst rebate centers, along with circuit city)...

wasssup- Just called to make sure what they meant by "copy" and the CSR said that you have to send in the original receipt that the person at the register handed you and the original UPC code cut from the box. I asked a few times in different ways to confirm.

but on the rebate form, it said a copy of your receipt and upc code in black and white. oberon, since u called the rebate center, did u ask them what if i send in a copy of the receipt along with the upc code like it was stated in writing on the rebate form, r they going to deny u of the rebate?

Can we use that skytel Wireless module to do anything else, I mean w/o activation?

And I am glad many people here are so smart, and figured out the visor is not free. We did pay $199, and our rebate will be denied. Just leave us along.

Anyone willing to help me pick a couple of these bundles up with receipt valid for rebate for the cost + shipping? They're out of them at all the CompUSA's within an hour radius of where I am... I can pay via PayPal or other means. My ratings at eBay. Thanks in advance...

The wireless modem (ActiveLink), requires activation with the wireless subscriber. The Xircom modem will work with a land line. Just plug it in. It will also work with your cell phone with an optional wireless connection kit.

The_Dude8- Yup, that's what I said about the rebate to the guy who said that the rebate was just trying to sound, how did he phrase it... "important" I believe. He appologized for the confusion and warned me that if I sent in a copy of either the receipt or UPC that my rebate would be delayed (I am assuming until I send in the original receipt and UPC).

Anyways, this sours the deal a little for me since I wanted to send in the rebate and see if my rebate gets approved, if not, then I would simply return the item. Then again, I guess that is one of the reasons why they want you to cut the UPC off the box, so that you can't return it and make $100 off of them.

WhiteMouse- When did you figure out that you will not be getting the rebate if you bought the item for $99? I thought the subject was still under debate.

can anyone confirm that its still $99 in the stores. The website says $199 now, but what about B&M?? I'm thinking it was on sale for $99 last week, and now its just $199-rebate.

I called my local store, and got some guy with a heavy accent, and could hardly understand him. He checked that they had 4 in stock, and told me "the price is blah blah 99.99"
"I'm sorry, can you repeat that?"
"the blah blah blah 99.99"

anyways, I couldn't understand him. so I'm not sure if he said 199, or 99. And I don't wanna sit on hold again, (I was on hold for like 10 mins) just to end up possibly getting the same guy that I wont be able to understand

anyways, if no one knows, I'm gonna go by after work and check, then I'll post what I find.

Unfortunatly, i didnt buy the xircom modem due to lack of money, but i have money now, and was wondering if i can still get it, since the rebate says, "Purchase any HANDSPRING Visor at compUSA between 11/17/01 and 11/24/01." It doesnt say anything about buying the modem though in that time, not even on the back.......

Also i'm on the phone with Compusa CSR right now makin sure the rebates will go threw

<< just called the rebate center...the lady said: Is it for Compusa? ME: Yes... Lady: YES, YOU CAN MAIL PHOTOCOPIES and be sure to keep copies of everything you mail for your records.!!! >>

-apple from FW.

Because of this, I wanted to make sure that the info the CSR from my first call was giving me all the correct information. So I called back and another CSR told me that you can send in copies because the rebate is from CompUSA.
She also said if anything was wrong, they will just e-mail you and tell you what you need to do.

Great, especially for those like me that are going to give this as a present (not to mention I would like to see if the rebate will come through )

Thanks for the info...unfortunately, I didn't keep up with the thread, and ended up sending a copy of the receipt and UPC...if there is a problem, I hope they contact me quickly so that I can resend the original UPC, or worse yet, never notify me...(their website isn't always up to date, at least for me, so lots of rebates never even show up)
