Called CompUSA CSR, asked about the "copy" of a sales receipt and UPC. She confirmed that a "photocopy" is all that is necessary. Unless it asked for originals, copies will work. I asked this twice to make sure she understood and she seemed to get a bit peeved at my redundancy, but she said photocopies would work again. This would confirm my experience with compusa rebates, since I've sent photocopies of documentation before.

I also told her I downloaded a $100 rebate off the website and asked if it could be placed on the handspring I bought yesterday for $100. She said that as long as the SKUs match, then there shouldn't be a problem.

EDIT: Hmm...I guess we all confirmed things just now. No wonder it took an hour on hold!

UPDATE!!! READ!!!!! Alright, i just got off the phone with a compusa CSR -- TWO THINGS - YOU MUST READ

NUMBER ONE The CSR told me that i will get the 100 dollar rebate, even though i got the 100 instant rebate, and i told him it would be 8 dollars after rebate, he said he did the math and figured it out, but they cannot do anything about it, you WILL get your rebate....HOWEVER he also said that in order to get the rebate, you need to subscribe to activelink services to get it, BUT - NOWHERE on teh rebate does it say you have to, theirfore i think we will get our rebates, but i am pressing this issue with a CSR manager, who is going to call me back...i will post again when i hear from her

NUMBER TWO Did you miss out on the Xircom 56k modem??? IF YOU BOUGHT A HANDSPRING BETWEEN the 17th and 24th you can STILL GET IT! so long as you postmark you rebates before the 8th.... That is directly from what the CSR told me!

This is the sweetest deal iv ever seen, and it works

Time to move into the "what in the world will we do with this stuff" phase. Here's a link to Skytel, who has a special on for unlimited messaging for @ctivelink for $19.99 a month. If you want the low buck version it's $14.95 for 250 messages a month, both with internet channels, email, etc. Not available for all cities, see web site:
2 way messaging deal

In order to use the modem you need a phone line and an isp dial-in account. The connector kit costs over $110 if you want to hook it to a cell phone, and then you're using your cell minutes. The Skytel $14.95 a month may be the best deal for me. The Visor is fun just by itself however. Thanks again DX.

Quit talking to CSR's and send the rebates in. This is how stuff gets ruined for others. Funny since you're the one that didn't believe this in the first place. It appears you still don't quite believe it since you feel the need to call Compusa. Don't be selfish at the risk of the rest of the group that is trying to get in on this deal. If we get the rebates, great. If we don't, we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. Quit making waves and just send in your flippin'rebates.:disgust:

Did you ask your CSR for his/her name? In the case when CUSA rejects the rebate, you can quote what he/she said...

Hi, guys,

I have two questions about the Xircom rebate:

1. In the rebate form, it doesn't mention I have to purchase the Xircom modem between 11/17 - 11/25. So I bought it today and I did purchase the Visor (SKU#: 285256) on 11/24, am I qualified for the rebate? Also, do I need to submit the UPC of the modem to CompUSA? Or just the UPC of the Visor.

2. Since it asks for purchasing a Visor to qualify this $50 rebate, and the item I purchased on 11/24 is SKU# 285256, the box shows that it is "activelink" instead of "Handspring Visor", will that invalid my $50 rebate for the Xircom modem?

new comer, please help. Thanks.

Include a copy of the side panel that states that the package includes the Handspring Visor, along with the UPC code from Visor package (bottom). That should help any confusion when they look at the receipt that says Sky Activelink. That's what I am doing right at this moment.

READ!!! TAKE BACK YOUR 56k MODEM!!! Alright, this is what i found out, NOBODY WHO GOT THE GLENARE @ctivelink modem IS ABLE TO GET THE XIRCOM MODEM becasue if you look at your receipt, it shows you bought the @ctivlink thing, not a visor, so they have no idea you have a visor, however the 100 dollar rebates DOES WORK and has been confirmed by 2 people

As for you esquard (sp?) if you dont want me saving fellow anandtechers alot of money...and if you dont want me talking to it, well, please dont talk then, i only try to help. I think you get a bad rep for bashing other people. I like to help other people. I am the type of person that makes deals go bad? what is the difference between asking now or later. man you need to htink more

Enjoy - but it sux you cant get the modem, if you do and try and send it in, it is valid for them to reject it

Clarifacations. ANyone who bought the glenware activlink/visor delux bundle is not eligible for the 56k modem from xircom, because on your receipt it says, "sky activelink for" which is JUST the activlink thing, with a bonus of a visor, so you really dindt buy the visor. but it has been confirmed *yes i do have names, but am not going to post in here* by 2 people *boht managers and a csr rep* that this deal wil work

Questions?

the rebate for the modem (according to an overweight compusa-worshipping employee i talked to at my local CompUSA in Edison, NJ) is supposed to be valid with the purchase of any visor product (not cables or whatever, obviously, but anything with a Visor handheld)...then again, he could be wrong, and i'm not worried anyway since it was OOS in all of NJ.

PEOPLE IN AUSTIN!!!

Don't bother trying. There aren't any in Austin.

I called the North location, and they didn't have any.
I called the South location, and they said they had 4.

So I drive all the way across town, get there, the guy checks and the computer says 4, so he spends 10 minutes looking around, under the counter, in the back, etc etc. Finally he comes to me and says that the computer says 4, but 1 is a display model, and the other 3 are returned. So I say "are they just returned, or are they broken or what?" he says "returned" means that they have to be shipped back to headquarters (so basically they are broken I guess)

So I bitched at him, and bitched at the manager, that I shouldn't have to drive all the way across town. They shouldn't tell me there are 4 in stock if I can't buy any of them.

Anyways, the manager apologized and all that, took my number, and said he would call me if they got any in. :disgust: :| :frown:

Don't tell me I need to think, and I'll speak when I damn well please. I don't need you to tell me you found out the deal will work from talking to a mgr and a CSR. We all knew this deal would work. You're the one that didn't believe in the deal in the first place. If you had been around any length of time, you would see the consensus of Anandtechers would prefer that people don't call managers and CSR's on the phone to find out if this deal will work or any other possible hot deal. Absolutely nothing good can come of this. Many a deal has been ruined by those kinds of actions. If you don't believe me, maybe someone else here will enlighten you. Maybe, since you are new, you didn't realize this so I'll give you benefit of the doubt.

I tried. I really tried for days not to look at this thread.
I give in. Is it still $99?

If so, I might have to make a trip to Compusa.

All I can tell you is that my local store manager signed and dated the back of his business card, confirming the purchases and rebates.

What more could you ask for?

If their is an unknown, i'm going to find out, i dont want to waste time/energy and money for nothing. I never said this deal wouldnt work except in the beginning. Next time i wont tell you what i find out, then all those people who bought the xircom 56k modems would have to pay for em, cause you cannot get the rebate for em...whatever -- but i am still going to call on the next few, cause i dont have alot of money to spend on things that MIGHT not work...i dont wanna take that chance

I just talked to a friend who works at CompUSA, there is a way to find out if they are gonna get more in... He called and checked, and the South Austin location has 20 on order.

Call during the day and ask to speak to the "receiving manager" and he can check if they have ordered more. He can't give you a definate date tho on when it will get there.

But if they are ordering them, then call back in a few days, and see if they've got them yet. (You still have 5 days to get it)

(Any employee has the potential to be able to find this out, but they aren't TRAINED to know how, but they might know how )

What rebate would that be? Never heard of a $100 Office Depot or Handspring rebate.

<< WhiteMouse- When did you figure out that you will not be getting the rebate if you bought the item for $99? I thought the subject was still under debate. >>

I did not figure it out. They figured it out.

And to people who called CSR again and again, if you do not believe the words printed on the paper (rebate form and the ad), why did you believe what the CSR told you over the phone? Did you tape your convesation? Do you have a lawyer to certify your recording?

There are many people believe all rebate are just scams, and I heard people said no online vender would ship your orders, they only charge your credit card.

It is fine for people jump in or stay away from this deal. It's your decision. But if you are unsure, listen to the senior deal hunters (I have received thousands of $$$ rebates, and normally got paid in recent shoppings) , and do not assume you know more than us. Many deals were ruined by people calling the company. (Not likely for this deal, since the deal is over.) It is OK that you do not want to risk, but at least you can leave us alone.

What is the difference between asking now or later? If you do not ask now, in most cases, you do not have to ask later either. But if you ask now, what you are doing is trying to report the crack to the company. Is that too hard to understand?
