"Any purchases made on or after Friday, November 23, 2001 may be considered as gifts and fall under an extended return policy. All
purchases made on or after this date can be returned up to 14
days after Christmas (Jan 9, 2002)."

Since, the MIR requires only a copy of the UPC we could
potentially leave the package unopened unless there is a
different UPC inside the box. Can someone who has already

Been lurking to see what everyone was saying about this deal. I read the Mail-in Rebate (the "Purchase a Handsping Visor with @ctivelink at CompUSA between 9/25/01 and 12/1/01" one) and there is nothing that would lead me to believe that they will not send me the rebate (not $100 but $99 because of the clause "Rebate value will not exceed purchase price"). This seems like a case of the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing syndrome. CompUSA and CompUSA.com both seem to want to sell this product for $99 but can't decide on how they are going to do that, by instant or mail-in rebate. Anyways, there is nothing in the rebate that says you need to purchase the product online. And, the receipt I got shows not special instant rebate for this product. It simply says "Sky ActiveLink For 99.99" so I do not fall into the category of "offer cannot be combnined with any offer on the same product".

I got mine today (11/25/01 13:27) @ CompUSA in San Rafael, CA. The Emeryville, CA one was all out as of yesterday and when I went in this morning the lady said three other people had already reserved theirs in San Rafeal. San Rafael CompUSA seemed to have plenty, the CSR said they had ~30 so I should have no problem picking one up. WARNING: cost $2 to get to San Rafeal using the Richmond San Rafeal Bridge. I then went to SF over the Golden Gate and it cost me another $3 :|. Oh well, I guess it was worth it for the deal.

Okay, I decided to go down and buy one.

For those who still don't understand the deal, the Handspring rebate (from cusa website) requires that the bundle be purchased by 12/1/01. That is what the PDF file (the actual rebate form) says. The website gives a whole bunch of other dates.

The Xircom modem (free $50-$50 MIR w/ purchase of Handspring visor) rebate requires that it must be purchased by 11/24/01 (or so it seems). So don't bother with the Xircom modem anymore.

I guess it was a good thing that all the CompUSAs ran out of the Xircom modem or I would have bought it and lost $50. Oh, I also asked the Asst. Sales Manager if I could still use a CompUSA rebate off the CompUSA website for it. He said it should work.

...I also got the free after MIR pen/stylus just for the heck of it.

Just hope for the best. @$100, you'll be saving about $30.00 anyways.

Java dont scare people. He meant to say the rebate clearly says $100 back if purchased between 9-25-01 and 12-1-01. Not 11-25-01 start as Java said. Therefore, if you purchased it saturday night like I did (11-24-01) then you still qualify for both the $100 compusa gleneyre/visor rebate, and the $50 visor/Xircom modem rebate...

To all those still confused its very simple. Compusa is trying to get rid of this product. You can help them. If you find a brick and mortar Compusa with this product in stock (SKU 285256) then it will ring up as simply $99.99 plus your local tax. There is no special notation on the receipt, $99.99 looks like the normal price. There is a rebate Still valid for $100 that you can find in this thread. Purchase dates are 9-25-01 to 12-1-01. The postmark deadline is 12-15-01 and you can use a copy of the UPC code. Yes the website does say that it must be purchased before 11-24-01. However the actual rebate form if you open the PDF file says 12-1-01.

The confusion seems to arise to those that don't recognize that there are two rebates on this product both from Compusa. There was a second rebate for $50 if you also purchased the Xircom 56kb modem with any visor including this deluxe version. That rebate states purchase must be by 11-24-01. It also seems to state that it accepts copies of the UPC code, however the wording is not exactly clear. To be safe I will send copies of both the modem and the visor despite the fact the rebate form does not specifically ask for both. The postmark deadlione for this rebate is 12-8-01. If you did not purchase the modem by Saturday night (11-24-01) then I fear you are out of luck only on the Additional $50 rebate for the modem (which costs $49.99 so free). I truely hopes that makes sense to people.

Now to complete this thread we need someone to post a scan of the xircom modem $50 rebate. I am away from my scanner so am unable to do so. However, I am sure it would be greatly appreciated. I had to make a second trip out to Compusa just to get this rebate form.

Thats great post lanb. I just copied the UPC on the box and sent in the rebate. If the rebate does not go through I will just return the item. I am hoping that by Jan 9th at least the status of the rebate will give a fair idea.
I am pretty sure that the rebate will go through though.

I was hoping not to open mine since it is going to be a present. I was wondering where the UPC inside is located. Is it on a box that contains the Handheld? The @ctiveLink module? or is it a seperate entity from either of these?

I ask because it seems to me the most logical to send the UPC on the outside of the whole box since the rebate is for the "Handspring Visor with @ctivelink", not for any of the products on the inside individually. But, if the UPC is seperate somehow from both the products, then I am not sure which to send.
