And you think Apple is taking it seriously too now?
Maiffret: Oh yeah. It's even a little scarier with them because they try to market themselves as more secure than the PC, that you don't have to worry about viruses, etc. Anytime there's been a hacking contest, within a few hours someone's found a new Apple vulnerability. If they were taking it seriously, they wouldn't claim to be more secure than Microsoft because they are very much not. And the Apple community is pretty ignorant to the risks that are out there as it relates to Apple. The reason we don't see more attacks out there compared to Microsoft is because their market share isn't near what Microsoft's is.

I like Apple computers. Whenever I see someone with one, I know not to go near them. It is basically like having a sign that says "I am a moron" around your neck.

Everyone knows this.

Unfortunately, no they don't. Most people are completely ignorant to the fact that hacking is a major for-profit business these days, and they want to target the largest market available.

i saw a quote somewhere that sums it up pretty well
"Mac OS X is like living in a farmhouse in the country with no locks, and Windows is living in a house with bars on the windows in the bad part of town"
I'd rather not have to lock my doors.

Security through obscurity. Doesn't matter that Windows is "more secure" than Macs. What does matter is that hackers aren't going to be targeting the platform since it is less than <10% of the US market.

My dream set up would be Windows, Mac, & Linux machines. Mostly the mac for porn and stuff, but mostly porn.

Always wondered why they ignore Macs, despite it being so small a market share. Just look at the demographic that buys them....esp. their $$$.

The problem is that apple is trying to increase their market share by misleading consumers.

I like people like you for a similar reason, whenever I see one, it is like the owner is wearing a sign that reads "I am an ignorant fool" around their neck.

Assuming all Apple owners are morons is like assuming that all people that drive Priuses are douches, or that all people that use Linux don't bath. Or that all people that wear hats are bald. You will inevitably be proven wrong, and look like a bigger cock for assuming as much.

Hate Apple, don't hate Apple, I don't care, but when people say stuff like "All apple users are morons", or "all priests diddle little boys" or "All women are crappy drivers" I just assume that they don't know what they are talking about and are incapable of original thought.

On topic, at least once a year a major voice rings out, 'Macs are insecure, and the users are overly smug about their false sense of security!' And to a certain degree they are right. Windows is more secure, they have a huge target on their back and have to take every opportunity to ensure that the target is as obstructed and small as possible. And they are also correct that I am fairly smug about the fact that I am comfortable with browsing anywhere on the web, and feel that I can download any file with impunity.

In my opinion, this is merely fear-mongering, and until such time as there is a credible threat out in the wild, I will continue to feel just fine about using my Mac.

What does that make *nix then? a nuclear bunker in the middle of the ghetto?

Apparently Apple users benefit from using their computers, because they don't have to interact with people who make idiotic assumptions based on their choice of computer.
