Yeah, and I thought it was a nice touch adding the Pixies - Where is My Mind instrumental when they were in the arcade. Its like the showrunner said 'Yeah, its pretty much Fight Club!'

But what is nice now is that they got this part of the story out of the way. It is intended to have a multiple season run, so now we are onto story that follows his struggle to maintain a grip on reality, as opposed to that simply being the conclusion.

I watched episode one and really like it but damn folks are getting greedy now all the shows on USA demand you have to pay extra for.

I have to pay to get this station
I have to watch commercials
And now they want me to pay to watch it. Damn what have I been doing.

So a little off track....

Was watching a movie on stars and in the ,middle of movie a pop up add came up for another show, I gotta leave this crap..

Yeah, and I was also fine with the mystery of his psychosis. Like finding out
he forgot Darla was his sister
was shocking. It would be interesting to know if anything else we've seen with him simply didnt happen at all. Maybe he never even confronted the child porn dude.

But even if the only person he sees is his dad, it could still work for many seasons, like Baltar in Battlestar Galactica.

Indeed. And that'll be a good layer - they are clearly continuing that at least in the season finale next week, so, just because it has been revealed doesn't mean that part of his story is over. It is now simply a part of who he is, he knows it (will he forget that he knows it? :hmm, and now the show must go on. I like how they handled this.

Wait so Christian Slater was never really there since the 1st ep on the train? Was never there during their planning in the arcade?

I don't want to assume I understand anything at this point but off the top of my head I think the answer is 'no.'

Both Slater's character and his sister have always been there. He just didn't understand that he was related to them. It's been presented in a "The Sixth Sense" sort of way though - which is why it's been such a mindfuck to find that out.

He's never been anywhere but in Eliot's head. I wonder if they'll go back to any scenes where we the audience could have either believed or not that he was interacting with other people, and demonstrate what actually happened in those moments. I'd like to see that.

Yup. If you look back you would notice when they are together, only one of them speaks to other people. One is usually in the foreground, the other in the background. Like when they both appear to talk to the fsociety group when Darla was freaking out. First it was Robot, with Elliot in the background, then Robot goes off and Elliot walks over to her and talks. Its like he switches to Robot when he needs to be more assertive or he's angry. For other times when its just the two of them, he must miss his dad and wants to talk. Elliot brings up loneliness quite a bit.

Mr. Robot is dead. Eliot was at his grave. He only has seen him in his head, and has actually been the ring-leader the entire time but forgot everything. His mind gave him that illusion of his dad to get him to come back to his original project... at least, that's my take on the story thus far.

And they could also just go the route that he never voiced anything that Mr. Robot voiced, rather, he just thought he saw and heard what was going on when Mr. Robot was doing things. It doesn't necessarily have to be a full-on Fight Club style approach, it could still be tidied up in other ways. And for this show, while it may end up going that way, I feel they have done so well with everything that it really could go either way.

So what about scenes like when Slater was threatening black hacker dude to come back to the group? It was just the two of them. That happened in the present.

At what point did he supposedly die? I may have missed that explanation. I think the tombstone said a while back, but not sure if it's significant.

Forgot about such scenes. So, clearly he was playing out both roles.
As for when he died... years ago. Recall the flashback at the beginning of the episode. He looks unchanged in that many years between young Eliot and present day Eliot... clue? Also, they really foreshadowed strongly with his cough in the shop, I suspect he died of cancer.

His dad died a long time ago, at the same time the blonde girl's mother died. I forget the specifics, but it was something like Evil Corp dumped some chemicals or they worked at the same place and were exposed to some chemicals. Its the chief reason why Elliot went after Evil Corp.

Wait a minute, so Stater's character is dead but his sister isn't? How does that work?

Plus there was all sorts of dialog between Slater and the other characters, wasn't there? If this turns out to be a Fight Club rip off, I'm going to be very disappointed.

When Robot was talking it was Elliot. You never see anyone address them both at the same time, its either one or the other. And when its in the same scene, one is in the foreground and one is in the background. Even the scenes with Robot in the Van with the other two, if you watch closely they never acknowledge him. He only speaks to Elliot.

OK. I'll take your word for it. I'm not going to go back and watch the whole season just to check.

Basically what they're saying is that he has multiple personality disorder. The problem with that though is that there has to be some overlap between the personalities. Even in fight club, where you had this sort of strict dichotomy between the characters, you still had one character experience missing time, being tired all of the time, etc. There were at least clues that should have made you question what more was going on. I don't recall anything like that in this show.

I'm not sure how I feel about this. I don't really see the point of going this route except to highlight just how fucked up Elliot is.

I must be the only person who hasn't seen Fight Club.

I've been meaning to but, alas, I have not yet either.

However, it has been spoiled for me. I'll enjoy it, sure, but that twist won't get me the same as it did for everyone else. Oh well. That's the price for being so far behind in common culture.

Also: I'm going to have to rewatch this season at some point and dig in for the clues. I feel like I've seen some but I had brushed them off, like the show was playing with me, because I wanted it to not be true.

I watched the Sixth Sense even after I knew how it played out. It was sort of cool to see how they set up the big reveal. I think you will still enjoy FC even though you know the big twist. I just can't see watching something a second time only for that reason.

A lot of this is fresh in my mind because I was debating it with friends last Sunday at a BBQ. I also thought this was Fight Club from the beginning, so I've been watching it with that in mind.

Yeah, I think I remember you or someone else mentioning that early in the season. I guess it never registered, probably in part because of how different each person was physically.

Not even all the way through the first episode and I think I'm hooked.

Does have that fight club vibe, which isn't a bad thing on top of the rest.

When I heard the background music I instantly recognized it and smiled. That was a great little touch.
