Hacking an old Yuxing YX-5921A(T401) IPTV STB

I found in the trash a Yuxing YX-5921A(T401) IPTV STB I am sure there are other uses for it other then the original purpose
It looks hackable but how I don't know
It has a front USB port and an 100Mbit ethernet jack
The PCB has a different model number of YX-6911A and it looks to have some kind of serial port on the PCB as I see a header with markings of "TX RX GND +5V

Anyway when I power it up it boots up and when connected to the internet it says "Powered by Nextv" and then stops with a divide by zero error and a server not found however it will display the correct date and time and when not connected it just stays on the loading screen and will eventually display server not found


Anyway here are the picture of the box

So is there any cool things I can do with this or is it trash fodder?

The power plug, is it the right voltage and amp's? that will make or break a unit, you can check on the unit itself and on the wall plug see if they match? OR google is your friend........

I have a power supply that works with it that is the right voltage and amperage I was just wondering if there is anything that can be done with this box other then the intended purpose

chip is a Broadcom 7401
which looks to be a common chipset for IPTV boxes

You would need to learn how to program that chip and learn how to flash it.

More than likely the MOBO was custom in house programming using C++ or java or a combination of both. Maybe even XILINX could be involved? who knows.

So it is TV over IP. it looks like a simplified slingbox.

that seems to be alittle out of my ability of stuff
It does look like a decent toy of sorts though
All I would want it to do is play back video from a USB Flash drive
Anyway I will hold on to it for awhile
