Got the new 10.5.7 kit with the updated audio drivers up! Anyone wanna give it a try and report back with their success?

http://www.mediafire.com/file/...g3mgj/ud3p_waikiki.zip

Last file-related thing to do is test the DS3L kit (make sure it works properly), then I'm good to go as far as the kits are concerned. That UD3P kit above also includes a special folder in the SOUPKIT directory on the Magic Boot Disc that has the audio patch kit (10.5.6 AppleHDA.kext + Kext Helper), so you can re-patch the audio instantly for future point updates. The rest is just updating links and then starting a new thread!

Hi Kaido,

I am in the process of trying this.

Is this the right order?

1) Install Leopard 10.5.4
2) Reboot with 123 and install 10.5.7 (do not reboot)
3) Install the Audio kext via the included kext helper app
4) Now we reboot
5) Run UInstall to add bootloader.

Please let me know. I have been trying to get this to work for 2 weeks. Thank you!!!

Hernando

1. Setup BIOS settings
2. Make sure your RAM is Memtested PLEASE!!
3. Install Leopard, setup, get to desktop
4. Install 10.5.7, reboot
5. Install Uinstaller (new one has everything)

That's it, pretty simple - OS, update, drivers. I'll be on for a bit, so LMK how it goes!

No problem! Glad it went smoothly I like doing the updates before the drivers, and restarting before the drivers, because then you only have to install the drivers ONCE and not worry about anything getting overwritten. Just FYI, I included a folder in the UD3P_KIT.zip file called "Audio", which has the audio patching system for future updates (like 10.5.8). So after you update in the future, just run that patch after you reboot, then reboot again, your sound should be back again!

The audio bug turned out to be simple, thanks to some forum posters over on Insanley: one of the drivers worked with the 10.5.6 audio driver, so all I had to do was include that driver in the updated plugin. Voila, happiness

Hardware testing is DONE!!

Just finished up the DS3L testing - the existing v1.0 kit is 100% perfect with 10.5.7 - audio works (you have to re-patch using Taruga, of course) and all 4 SATA ports work. Shows up as ICH9 in System Profiler. All latest updates up till today work great.

Hardware Status: All kits are FINALIZED for 10.5.7!

1. ES2L - this is the easiest, surprisingly. Everything updates to 10.5.7 just fine.
2. DS3L - just needs the Taruga patch, easy.
3. UD3P - now needs AppleHDA patch (re-install the kext with Kext Helper after running point updates). This is new for us UD3P owners as we didn't have to do this before. But no biggie, a quick 2 seconds and a reboot and voila, audio again!

Well, it's 11:39pm here and my eyes are blurry, I'm going to bed haha. I have the day off tomorrow (woot!), so I'll be posting the final guides on the Wiki, a new master thread here, and individual board threads on Insanely tomorrow. Updates will also be on my Blog and on Twitter.

And Scooter you better bake me a cake!

Oh and for anyone looking, here is the DVI + Digital Audio to HDMI-Audio converter for $38:

http://www.monoprice.com/produ...id=5369&seq=1&format=2

What you need for HDMI-Audio:

1. Hackintosh with a DVI card & digital audio output (ES2L w/ bracket, stock DS3L, or stock UD3P, for example)
2. The HDMI converter box
3. A DVI cable
4. A Digital Audio cable (Coaxial/RCA or Optical/TOSlink)
5. An HDMI cable

So basically you'll wire the DVI & Digital Audio ports to the HDMI converter box, then run a single HDMI cable to your Receiver or HD Television. This way, the HDMI cable will stream both Video AND Audio! You can't do HDMI-Audio straight from a Hackintosh video card, even with an internal optical audio cable connection, because it won't work - there are no drivers for it; I've physically tested it myself. So this is the next best solution and will give you want you want - HDMI-Audio from your Hackintosh. Pretty good price too, sub-$40 is a steal...

Hi Kaido,

Well I have been mainly backing up my setup since I got it working. I have a quick two questions. I am interested in building a computer with the ES2L motherboard. On the Leopardsoup wiki site, Weaksauce discusses the need for a separate USB Sound Device. With the latest build, will the motherboard sound work, or do I need the sound device? Is the ES2L kit on the Leopardsoup web site the latest-greatest? Is there a discussion thread for this mobo, like this one for the UD3P?

Thanks so much.

Here's a hint: Kaido = Weaksauce

Onboard audio works on ALL the motherboards I support - ES2L, DS3L, and UDP. The reason I encourage using USB audio is #1, it sounds better than onboard analog audio, #2, it's plug-and-play compatible (no drivers), and #3, you don't have to re-patch USB audio with every point update. With the DS3L and UD3P, you have to install the sound drivers again after every major point update. The ES2L is the exception - so far, it's worked just fine with updates

I really only recommend onboard audio if you need digital audio output (coaxial or optical) because you can't get cheap USB or Firewire digital audio adapters for the Mac. The audio drivers have been, shall we say, degenerating over time with OS X - there are typically underlying issues such as sound assertation errors that you don't see, but that the system does (which can do things like add a couple minutes to your shutdown time). With 10.5.7, we can no longer bundle audio drivers in the Mkext file, they have to go into the Extensions folder on the hard drive. The Hackintosh audio driver developers keep saying eventually the onboard stuff probably won't work, but it's held up surprisingly well so far

I'll be posting individual board threads on Insanely this afternoon.

Looks like the UD3P doesn't have the sound assertation error in Console anymore with the updated kit & 10.5.7. Yay.

Possibly...it's all about drivers, whether they exist or not for your board. The network would work, and I think the sound would work. You can get AMD support with a non-vanilla kernel using something like an iDeneb disc. I'd advise searching around the InsanelyMac forums and reading through the AMD tutorials over there to see what parts would work.

Thanks for your reply, I guess I'll just have to wait till something comes out and maybe move a fan around so I can have a little peace of mind.

I do have another question and I'm not sure if it's been covered in one of the other 128 pages of this topic, i'm curious about the GA-EP45-UD3L. Would the UD3P kit work with this board. It seems like it's pretty much the same board sans the additional pci-e x16 slot and firewire. I ask because I'm thinking about building a seperate hack, as opposed to my current set-up where I just added a hard drive and installed leopard. I'm pretty sure I can get one for $60 and I have an E8200 lying around along with an antec 300 that I was going to sell but it seems like the board and parts would make a nice rig. If anyone has used this board and has an opinon I would like to hear it. Sorry if this has been answered and I just missed it.

3. No more need for AppleSMBIOSEFI.kext - you just use an smbios plist in the Extras folder!
4. LegacyIOAHCIBlockStorage.kext doesn't work from Chameleon 2.0's Extra or Mkext (must go to SLE) * This is the kext that changes the drive color from Orange to Silver
5. It allows your Boot Plist to be stock - it contains a duplicate Boot Plist in the Extras folder with your settings (default boot drive, timeout, EFI strings, etc.)
6. It has issues with Mkext bundles, doesn't like to load them for some reason (RC1 bug?)

With Chameleon 2.0, all that goes in your SLE is the RealtekR1000.kext (for network) and LegacyIOAHCIBlockStorage.kext (for silver drive icons), plus whatever audio stuff you're using. Not bad!

In other news, audio is still wonky on 10.5.7 for the UD3P. I've heard that there is a multi-step fix somewhere that solves the problem, so when/if I come across that, I'll update the package! USB audio ftw

Edit: Ahah, 10.5.7 audio notes:

Hiya Kaido, A.K.A. WS12,

Would you mind outlining the steps needed to get Chameleon RC1 to run on the UD3P. I like the concept of being able to pick which drive to boot, rather than go nuts trying to hit the F12 key at the right moment. PLus graphics is my forte.... I can see creating all kinds of great boot screens, with my 3D and Photoshop skills.

I read the above, but I am not sure how to approach this.

Many thanks,

Hernando

A little Hack break to talk about servers again. I got the PCI-X SATA controller card for my HP DL320 server and it is installed and working just fine. Took me forever (and a day) to figure out how to setup the software RAID in FreeNAS, but I have figured it out. So begins the very slow process of copying the files over to a 300 Gb SATA HD (about 20 hours for the largest drive) over my Gig-E network. Once I have all the data on that HD I can install my 2-1 Tb HD's into the server and set them up as RAID1. Then I will hook up the 300 Gb HD to the eSATA port and copy the files back over to the newly created RAID. A lot of work but I think it will be worth it to have a kickass real server! Besides, I have nothing better to do this weekend. BTW, I got the SCSI HD in for my older DL360 Compaq server so I will probably play with it this weekend also. What is the best mail list software to use with it? I think I want to setup my own mail server and dump Google groups.

Anyone interested in a P35-DS3L? I am adding 2 more hard drives and another dvd drive and need more SATA Ports so I need to upgrade to the UD3P. Anyone looking to buy a P35-DS3L for a bit cheaper than a UD3P or possibly trade for a hard drive.

Thank you... Do I install this over your UInstaller that I already ran? or do I need to do a clean install and then run the chameleon pkg. What about all the kexts that make UD3P work. Do I need to get these from your package?

Sorry to ask but the information out there is so spread out and it is hard to figure out what works with what. This is why your thread and website are a blessing.

EDIT: I was too anxious. I installed right over your installation and it worked smoothly..... How GREAT is this!!!

Thanks a million.

Boy did I underestimate finishing this

Got the UD3P stuff up, its about 95% done. DS3L is 95% done as well. ES2L will be done once I figure out which nav I like best at the top. DS3L/UD3P bios settings are up, quickstart guides are up, package kits & info are up. Added the Uinstaller howto, MemTest howto, and Basic Required Hardware overview. Partly put up the Leo install & setup guides, I need to go through the processes to get ALL of the steps down pat. Added a new page explaining how the Magic Boot Disc works. Got the thread posts & Anandtech 10.5.7 posts ready to go as well, just working on finishing these last few articles to wrap things up before posting them.

Feel free to poke around and let me know if you see any bugs!

Kaido, I'm installing Leopard onto the boot drive for my previously mentioned computer earlier from my MBP. After that's done, I'm going to boot into the install, and set up the Voodoo kernel. How would I go about loading the drivers included on your Magic Boot disc for my ES2L? I'm very familiar with both Macs and PC's, but I'm stumped when it comes to installing the kext files or whatever are included on your boot CD. Can I do that from my MBP? Specs again are:

3.2ghz P4
4gb DDR2 800 RAM
eVGA 8400 GS
Gigabyte G31M-ES2L
200 GB SATA HD

I'd like to figure out if this works, and I can post findings on the thread for people in my situation. If I can't get it to work, I'm going to get a C2Q sometime in the very near future.

Wow, I'm up and running on my Pentium 4 using the Voodoo kernel... awesome! I am having video card issues, however. The only resolution is 1280x1024, and scrolling in Safari is messed up. Is there anything I can do about that? I have the correct card selected in the driver list or whatever that is called in the UInstaller.

How did you go about installing the Voodoo kernel?

mosslack mentioned a few pages back that his 8400GS was having problems in 10.5.7 - just for fun, try installing only up to 10.5.6, then install the Voodoo kernel & 8400GS driver, but don't update to 10.5.7 - see if that works. The 8400GS may be broken under 10.5.7...

For me this issue turned out to be related to the refresh rate, not the card itself. For some reason, 10.5.7 won't allow anything but a 60 Hz refresh rate with my Acer X223W monitor. It worked fine @ 75 Hz on 10.5.6. I don't know if this applies in his situation, but I thought I would mention it just in case. :light:
