anyone have a camera in that bat cave?

That was pretty much it, and I don't use sleep so I never tried it. Now my problem is I can't find a copy of Multiscape. It is supposed to work wonders for spanning a single wide wallpaper across multiple monitors in OS X.

I think Kaido is still weighing the options for the next guide choice. He does a lot of twittering so you might check out what he says there.

I like that desk! Gives me an idea

Okay, the DS3L is now multi monitor capable with the switching from the 7200GS to the 8400GS. The HIS Multi-View provides the 3rd center display and things are as they should be. One thing I have discovered is that I"m going to have to add a little text edit to my wallpapers so I will know which computer is which. As it is now I can easily be confused while looking at the displays not knowing what computer I'm using. Not having anyway to type or use the mouse is a clue, but I would much rather be able to look at the display and instantly know what I am looking at.

Sure, it's a piece of cake. Just make sure to have a recent version of Natit installed so that it can see the card at next boot, and then swap the cards.

I just built a super-ghetto desk - a Jen-Weld wood door ($25) plus 4 heavy-duty plastic storage boxes (2x2 for leg support). Looks ghetto, works like a champ.

I have the Wiki down for updates. Things were getting messy, so I'm spending the new week updated the layout & testing the 10.5.8 guide. Not assigning a due date because, well, we all know how great I do with those Snow Leopard has a few problems for me right now:

1. No BootCD (must use another Mac currently)
2. Buggy bootloader (Chameleon 2.0 is still in beta, has quirks)
3. 64-bit driver problems (mainly Audio & Network)

There might be more but those are the main ones. I've released "beta" kits before that don't have full functionality and end up with a deluge of newb complaints, so I'm not releasing anything until it's really, truly ready to go. That and Snow is a tad buggy (mainly Finder), so I'm hoping SP1 comes out soon Plus some apps don't work.

I would like to say that I agree its much easier to wait for 99-100% functionality as I have with my current 10.5.6 q6600 hackintosh.

I had a question tho. When I type in the command that tells you which EFI your mac is running it tells me I am EFI32, but the q6600 is a 64-bit processor.. Is it just because the bootloader for Leopard 10.5.6 runs on EFI32? Thanks I am clearly not very well versed in this, but mainly my question is will my q6600 be 64-bit in Snow Leopard if the bootloader is 64-bit? Or is it even possible? Please any information would be great. Thanks!

Yeah, 10.5.8 is super-stable on my rig, but Snow still needs some work. For Snow, you basically have to copy the disc image to a second partition on your new Snow HDD, install the bootloader & drivers to it, boot up and install it to the first partition, unplug it and put it back on your Mac and install the bootloader & drivers to the first partition, then put it back in your Hack and boot up to the first partition, then download any remaining updates and do any remaining driver-related stuff. Plus Audio & Networking are a tad messy right now. But it's getting better every day and I'm keeping an eye on it. Probably as soon as Chameleon 2 comes out of beta, I'll just go ahead and release a Snow guide regardless.

On a Hackintosh, by default it will boot into the 32-bit kernel. With Leopard, your Q6600 is perfectly backwards compatible and simply runs as a 32-bit processor. With Snow Leopard, you have a choice to run in 32-bit or 64-bit mode. I prefer 64-bit mode, because, well, that's the point isn't it? On the older version of Chameleon I had, you had to force 64-bit mode at boot, but I believe the latest RC2 with PC_EFI v10.1 does that automatically. You can see where you're at with this Terminal command, I believe:

ioreg -l -p IODeviceTree | grep firmware-abi

I'm still t 10.5.6 on my udp3. Just reinstalled to get to a case insensitive file system,however now when I force sleep sometimes ethernet doesn't come back; I have to unplug and plug it in the back of the box,doing it at the switch doesn't work.
Is this a known issue? I didn't' even come in contact with it until I reinstalled. Weird.

Yeah that's the point! ha, glad you're headed in the same direction. I am probably on an older version of chameleon maybe. Now I have to decide to install a fresh 10.5.8 or wait for your SL guide. decisions decisions ha. Thanks for the infos Kaido!

These are the files I need for a DIY 100% working 10.5.8 installation, correct?

AppleDecrypt.kext
Disabler.kext
OpenHaltRestart.kext
AHCIPortInjector.kext
IOAHCIBlockStorageInjector.kext
UUID.kext
RealtekR1000.kext

I use USB audio, built in Ethernet and an EFI String for my GFX card. Anything I'm missing? I would normally use Kaido's kit but since I need to use Chameleon 2 RC 2 to boot Vista on the same drive I have to go it alone. I have what seems to be a working install now, but I only installed those kext's and am worried I missed one.

Make sure you have the R1000.kext driver in /S/L/E.

Edit: And the F7 or newer BIOS

I hope this works on our Gigabyte motherboards.

Yeah, uEFI & the Chinese bootloader already have it, iirc, so we've all been waiting for them to FINALLY bring DVD support to the USB installer. Previously it was Linux-based, I believe (like the BootCD), and it just didn't support that feature natively.

I'd LOVE to be able to put 100% of everything on a USB flash stick, then stick in the Snow Leopard disc and boot right up

You'll want the following for 10.5.8: (if you want Cham2)

* Chameleon 2.0 RC2
* AppleDecrypt.kext
* Disabler.kext
* OpenHaltRestart.kext
* SleepEnabler.kext
* R1000.kext (if you have a Realtek Ethernet NIC onboard)

The BlockStorage stuff is for the cosmetics of the drive (orange to silver); not all boards need it. UUID may or may not work for you, if it doesn't, just use the TM Fix in Uinstaller to add it as an EFI String to the Boot Plist. What board are you rolling on?

I think I am getting a GTX 260. I found the guide on how to install it. But I am selling my 3870 and then buying the GTX 260 later this month. I am going to use a 3450 until I get my GTX 260. I have tried searching on how to use a 3450, but can't find anything. Anyone know if its possible to use the 3450?

Regarding the R1000.kext for SL - It's not needed if you have your DSDT straight. I can give you guys mine for the P35-DS3L with the newest Bios (F9 I think) - LAN works perfectly out of the box, using the vanilla com.apple.driver.AppleRTL8169Ethernet kext.
For SL I also don't use the Disabler.kext and AppleDecrypt.kext.
Currently I use: fakesmc, platformuuid (fitted for my UUID), openhaltrestart, sleepenabler and legacyhda. works really nice.
Sleep works top, wake from sleep too and LAN is there immediately. When I find time I will play more with my DSDT to get onboard sound working without and altered Apple kexts.

Wow. You and I may need to talk soon. I have a DS3L, with an EVGA 8600 GT and offboard Firewire audio. Think you can get SL working on that?

Yah; the reason I don't do the whole DSDT bit is that it can vary so much between boards. For 10.5.8 & Snow, I might do a basic DSDT, but for example I use a PCI NIC, so the DSDT compiled for the onboard NIC wouldn't work for me. I'm thinking about adding an "Advanced" section to the Wiki for such projects

Curious what is the best upgrade path for my hack.

I have a UD3P+Q6600+9800GTX running 10.5.8. To be honest, I have no idea how I got here - it certainly was not with any of the Leopard Soup guides, since my hack predated those. I think I started with an iDeneb install, and I've hobbled along to 10.5.8.

So, I'm willing to go any route, just so long as it is effective. Should I start with a clean new hard drive, install 10.5.7 and then upgrade to 10.6?

Any advice is appreciated.
