I'm looking at tinkering with a Snow Leopard install as well. Currently I am on a UD3P+Q9400+8800GT with external NIC and USB sound running 10.5.8 thanks to Kaido's guides. Any pointers in the direction I should be heading at?

Is this basic DSDT the same as in the past? The one created by the PCWiz program? If so I assume you just edit the file to fit your config then. Sounds easy enough, but I'm like you, I think I like the one size fits all concept better.

Edit: I've been so busy lately with this 3 monitor setup that I haven't been keeping up with the latest stuff. Looks like I need to do some more reading.

For SL I also don't use the Disabler.kext and AppleDecrypt.kext.
Currently I use: fakesmc, platformuuid (fitted for my UUID), openhaltrestart, sleepenabler and legacyhda. works really nice.
Sleep works top, wake from sleep too and LAN is there immediately. When I find time I will play more with my DSDT to get onboard sound working without and altered Apple kexts.

I don't like the DSDT stuff either. It's very poorly documented, and making changes basically comes down to "do this and hope it works." Unfortunately SL likes to erase CMOSes if it accesses the Real Time Clock the wrong way, which makes DSDTs necessary on a lot of boards. And in my own case, Asus saw it fit to insert a bunch of ALIAS entries in the CPU section, which Mac OS X can't handle. So I must have a DSDT file with those entries scrubbed just to boot.

There are really good tutorials on DSDT on insanelymac by now.
Here is mine in the decompiled .dsl code: http://pastebin.com/m3c5e90be
You can take that and use it, but I don't know if the machine specifics like my Q6660 or the GPU code cold mess you up, but it's worth a try.
It's for the GA-P35-DS3L Rev. 1 F9 Bios with the RTC Patch.

Will the Pentium work? obviously a Core 2 Duo or Quad is preferable...

Off hand I would say yes, a quick google for the mobo you linked and the term hackintosh returned this as the first item:

http://tinyurl.com/kqgw2r

This would be a great place to read more about it. Most modern motherboards these days will support some form of OS X. To what degree is a matter of research. Good luck on your quest.

Yeah that's really it - I'm planning on doing a basic one for Snow, and maybe for 10.5.8, but I can't release a single DSDT that is customized for every board, because every board is different. That's the hassle. I could post a guide, but like Gymnae said, there are already guides if you want to do that, so meh

Hey Kaido,

I have the following

Gigabyte GA-G31M-ES2L
Intel Pentium Dual-Core E5200
Geoforce 7900 GS Dual DVI Card.
4GB Patriot Memory
500GB Maxtor Hard DRive

I clicked on the kit you have for ES2L and it took me to another site, where I registered, and sent you a e-mail. I think I need access, so hopefully that is the case, and I can get going on my build and these parts work.

Thanks

Going crazy tonight. Going to attempt to install Snow Leopard and Vista on a single HDD.

If it doesn't work out I'm coming back to 10.5.8 until 10.6.2.

I tried to install snow from leo, onto a partition that had leo on it and was formatted from disk util. But cannot get it to work.

From the old SC days, gl hf.

I know i could repartition/format the drive and get it to work, but just waiting on that.

could you link the guide you followed for DSDT? I have Rev 2 with F7 bios. So not sure if yours will work. And im not sure even what to do with it...

Regards to gtx 260, i just reinstalled ipc, straight from software update to 10.5.8 (no drivers install on ipc) then install the enabler and drivers both from netkas site and in the order.

I have everything working dual screen all that. But i want snow leopard running too.

EDIT: It seems maybe sleep isnt working... maybe thats why i used graphic strings. Dont remember.

I am getting ready to try to install snow leopard using the lifehacker article. Is there anyway to do it without an 8GB+ flash? Biggest I have is 4GB.

Mosslack:

That's a guide for the UD3R, not our UD3P. There are some differences. The thread has misleading, erroneous, and incomplete information on DSDT modification. There is a ressurected script to fully enable Bonjour with DSDT enabled RTL8168/9 ethernet ports on the UD3P/R. No need for R1000 kext in Snow.

Koalala's DSDT patcher is an excellent tool to initiate DSDT mods. This site has assembled most useful DSDT "fixes", now in English, sort of:

http://www.osx86.es/?p=610

This guide for Snow installation is for the EP45T-UD3P which has DDR3 memory (so don't use his DSDT), but the instructions for installing Snow do work. I have a very stable 64-bit Snow installation using early gen chameleon PC_EFI 9, with just four kexts, and a tailored DSDT.

http://www.projectsnow.net/ind...-leopard-32-or-64-bit/

And of course though Snow is snappier my 3870 runs in VESA mode, so gfx is essentially crippled. This is even an issue for Mac hardware users. I would switch over completely to Snow if not for that lone issue. 10.6 is that much of an improvement/refinement to Leopard.

Hope this information is useful to you.

I assume you are referring to the first snow guide I mentioned, I do know that one was not for the UD3P, but close enough to work with my own DSDT. Now it looks like I may try the lifehacker guide which IS for the UD3P and it uses an install method I prefer to use. Who knows, another may come along before I get my copy (hopefully tomorrow) and I may switch again. My main joy comes from trying different approaches and methods so I likely will get around to the other one eventually. Info is always appreciated.

Already wrote to Pash so he can correct his Lifehacker guide. Using Chameleon RC2 is inappropriate, as pci_efi does not function properly. The author of pci_efi, netkas, writes: "install Chameleon2RC1 (not RC2)" http://netkas.org/?paged=2 This is likely why Lifehacker is still getting random kps.

Lifehacker also has misinformation on enabling ethernet and audio, but suit yourself.

"My main joy comes from trying different approaches and methods..." Did you ever try the kextless DSDT only audio approach with layout-id "66"?

Not yet, too many other things in my way at the moment. I really only have certain weekends with which to work on stuff I really enjoy doing, have to allow for family and friends some of the time I'm not working.

Plus the type of person I am is that I have to understand why I'm doing things the way I do them, I truly hate just following someone else's lead without knowing why they do things the way they do. Been this way since I was a child and would tear things up to see what made them work. Still doing it, but now I usually know how to put them back together.

We are all busy.

If such is your sentiment then why would you want to blindly follow Lifehacker's guide? Pash really doesn't understand what he's doing, and doesn't explain the rationale behind his choices. Try the ProjectSnow guide but stop after the chameleon 1 (with pc_efi 9) installation step. For some reason 64-bit Snow is more stable with that bootloader then the newer versions. No kps for me. Sometimes, less is more?

The author of the UD3R thread is sixteen and learning as he goes. I'll give him credit for effort, but he still doesn't have a stable 64-bit system. His guide only really works for 32-bit Snow, don't you know?

I bought a 16 Gb cruzer micro recently at walmart for like 40 bucks and they have already come down from that price. It's come in handy for a lot of other things as well so I feel it's a justified purchase. Let us know how you come out.

Prasys is knowledgeable and shares.

Nice! Yay for screenshots! I just figured out how to add pics to the Wiki the other day (I think they integrated the Multimedia plugin when they switched to PBworks), so I'd really like to spice up the boring written guide with some pix soon

No joy for me today, Snow was supposed to be delivered today according to Amazon, but the USPS decided instead to send it to ---. I'm not kidding, the package tracking says it arrived on Sept. 2nd @ 4.40 PM at ---. That was the last anyone heard of it. Sure makes a person feel proud to work for an organization which regularly sends parcels to who knows where! BTW, machinist, that looks like a nice guide to putting Snow on a flash drive. May have to try that instead of the LifeHacker one.

Edit: More details are emerging about my SL order. I went to the USPS website and tracked the package. They are saying that Amazon mis-routed the package and it went to Monroe, WA 98272. I have decided that Amazon's free shipping is not worth it when the USPS is used as the shipper. I don't know what the problem is, but this is the 3rd time it has happened and I'm done trusting either one anymore.
