Have a problem with my DorkPro:

Installed latest VMWare Fusion 3.0 this morning. Which required rebooting.

After Rebooting, I am greeted with

boot0: GPT
boot0: testing
boot0: testing
boot0: done

Which is where it stays..

I've tried reinstalling Chameleon, but no luck.. Any ideas? (glad I migrated my data to my new iMac)

Just a thought, you might try using the older version of Chameleon, the one used in the Uinstaller as sometimes the newer version doesn't work to fix boot problems. If you can get it booting with the older version then just reinstall the new one again. HTH

No problem, sorry it doesn't work for you and your Abit. Does the flash drive type install not work either? There are several out there.

Ok, now I get this:

boot0: GPT
boot0: HFS+
boot0: booting
boot0: done

and then nothing... Weird.

I don't use Fusion so I have no idea of where else to look. Does seem like it would be somehow related to it though. Do you have the install backed up without Fusion? Might try restoring that and then reinstall Chameleon, just a thought.

I think it was just jealous of the new iMac in the room.

But, thankfully it's all backed up, and the hardware is going to be recycled for other purposes. Had a long good run, and was stable enough until this - but I could never feel comfortable using it as a system that I depended on. This really proved that for me. Great fun for hobby though.

I tried the one at Lifehacker, and failed. I'll wait and see what Kaido has to show.

Which install were you on?

I'm on Snow at the moment, and no bugs with VMware Fusion 3.0. I rebooted & it was fine

I'm doing the ES2L, DS3L, and UD3P. Sell your Abit board and get a supported board already Seriously though, these kits use DSDT and are even more board-specific than my previous kits, so if you really want maximum compatibility, you'll either need to spend some time rigging up your own kit, or just buy a board that has an existing guide (hint, hint...).

Snow Leopard. Not sure it had anything to do with Fusion, it just forced a reboot for the first time in a long time.

+1 it really is not worth the hassle. The work that gets put into these kits saves you enough time to justify shelling out the $130 for the UD3P. it's a great board to boot!

Are you just modding the boot CD for the others or will they use a different install method? Just curious...

I'll just wait then. I can live with 10.5.8, as it does what I needed it for. I only did the Hackintosh thing to upgrade my iPhone, but got caught up in the whole thing. I had no clue that there was such a large following. There are quite a few out there with Abit boards, and some with the IP35 pro have SL working. There isn't that much of a difference between the pro & my IP35-E, but I think I may need to make my own DSDT, and I don't know how. YET!!!!

Thanks to all for the help & advise.

All use the same method: (which is even easier than my previous kits!)

1. BootCD: BootCDMaker 1.6
2. Installer: Based on the PC-EFI v9 installer app

BootCDMaker is available here. Think of it as Uinstaller for creating Leopard & Snow Leopard-compatible BootCD's. The disc is structured around Chameleon, then you load it with the PC-EFI of your choice (latest is v10.5) and /Extras of your choice, plus whatever boot options you want. You load all of your /Extras except for the Themes folder: com.apple.Boot.plist, DSDT.aml, smbios.plist, and your Extensions.mkext. So then the installer app (for the desktop, which also works for doing a drive-based install, like from an 8gb usb stick) contains the same Extras, plus the Theme and PC-EFI.

And again, we really have stella to thank for everything. He's really been pushing the tweaks & upgrades to the limits...I basically just guide up whatever comes out of his magic brain He's done an incredibly masterful job with the whole setup (BootCD & installer), as well as getting all the tweaks down and bugs out (perfect DSDT, split DSDT/Mkext audio sub-system, etc.). And now with the Bonjour64 "app", I finally feel pretty confident in releasing a beta kit...you don't have to jump through 50 hoops anymore to get a working rig, YAY!

And honestly...I don't really see it getting any easier than this. I think we've reached Michael Jackson status - "this is it!" The BootCD now has a nice GUI with basic instructions, so you don't need to know any command-line funny business, and the installer is actually a zero-config installer...you simply run it, no options, it installs to your boot drive in less than a minute, and you reboot and you're done, no matter what your setup! (onboard audio/networking or third-party stuff)

OK, it's Halloween! Can't wait to see this guide...

I finally got my hands on a UD3P (what a sexy looking board) and did a SL install with the Lifehacker guide. I can't believe how easy it was. It was 100% the first try. The USB install method is so much nicer than messing with a CD.

Now I can't wait to try Kaido's guide on what will become my Backintosh D3SL (unless someone wants to buy it...)!

Okay, so far so good, I do hope this was worth the wait. Looking around, don't see any links to the new SL install procedures, could this all have been an elaborate hoax by our fearless leader? It was Halloween, trick or treat you know...

There is apparently one more bug that needs to be fixed. I don't know what it is, and I'm not sure if Kaido's said. But otherwise, everything looks great.

Yup one little power bug, if it can't be fixed then I'll let it go, but I'd like to get it worked out before the release. Be sure to post thanks to Stella for all the hard work he's put into making this all happen for us!

Typing this on my HP Mini 311 with 10.5 installed. Stella's the man for sure. I see he says that 10.6.2 will mean no more Atom support. That will limit me a bit on this and other systems I have, but I will just stay where I am before I go over to the dark side. Looking forward to the new stuff when you get it ready.
