My HD did not show up in Disk Utility, or as an install destination using the 10.5.1 Retail installer, but with 10.5.4 Retail it worked perfectly. Unless I am the only one, you may want to specify this in the guide.

First a normal kernel panic screen, then a black overlay crawled down from top to bottom of screen, followed by flashes of rapidly changing code at the very bottom of the screen. Later may try a pre-install on a working system, then transport it over to a Hack and see what happens, but for now, retail 10.5.5 working great.

Netkas just added Snow Leopard support to PC EFI v9, so I'm sure I'll have a guide for that in the future

I'll help you online this evening. I'll upload a new package as well - we've reversed the order of the installation, that's why you're having problems. 10.5.5 locks out access to the extensions folder until it's been rebooted (thus completing the update), so we simply install the software first, then 10.5.5, then reboot. Also, you can simply type in "2560x1600" (minus the quotes) and it will downscale for your monitor.

Did you format the drives between the discs? I have a 10.5.0 disc and it works fine, and several people with 10.5.1 discs have it working fine.

Using a backup disk - Superduper problem?

Just as a safety test, I tried out the following:
- made a supersuper clone onto my 320G from my main disk 160G; no visible errors
- disconnected the 160G
- connected the 320G in its place (1st sata port)
- re-boot

It won't reboot, won't reach the grey apple, just stops after the PCI Devices Listing. I do briefly see the 320G listed on the screen.

Any ideas? I seem to be at a stable system, and am quite keen to be able to roll back to it if needed

Edit: I need Chameleon, don't I Just put it on the 320G and it boots fine. Sorry for the noise. No more re-installs for me, I hope

I can understand the confusion, I've done so many installs lately I don't know where I"m at half the time! Besides that I have a 945 based Hack I'm trying to configure also. It won't run with the HD method so I"m using the usb stick on it. Switching between it and my P35 can be a little confusing also.

Use this method:

http://www.mediafire.com/file/zojywaujh3g/DS3L-Kit.zip

Friday, November 21st update. The Readme has been updated. Includes a newer kext for IDE which seems to resolve the Kernel Panic issue. All you need is a BootCD, a copy of Leopard on DVD, and a compatible DS3L system (P35 or EP35 board + 10.5.5-compatible Video Card). As always, I'd suggest downloading the 600mb 10.5.5 update beforehand so you don't have to wait. Here is a link:

http://tinyurl.com/67vgba

FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS IN THE README IN THE ORDER I LIST THEM!!!

GAH! My CPU and RAM are on a truck headed for me, but my Mobo is coming from California (I am in PA). Ugh, I have to head out of town next week too, for thanksgiving.

Well... Hopefully when I finally do get to it, Kaido's final guide will be up

I've added some new goodies in the Tools section. I should note that the DSDT system seems to add 10C to CPU temperature readings within OS X. Working on this. Here is an overview of the new Tools package:

Benchmarking:
AJA System Test (better hard drive speed testing than Xbench/Geekbench)
Geekbench (general benchmarking, share your score!)
Xbench (general benchmarking, share your score!)

Cloning Kit:
SuperDuper! (makes a clone)
Chameleon (makes the clone bootable, just install this to the cloned drive after using SuperDuper)

Memory Testing:
Rember (Mac runtime version of Memtest)
Memtest (Memtest86+ bootable ISO - burn to CD or DVD, do 6 passes with Zero errors to ensure 100% functional RAM)

Processor:
MSR Tools (shows a bunch of detailed info on your CPU, such as voltage, clock speed, etc.)
CPU-X (Mac's equivalent of CPU-Z, lots of CPU info)
Termianl HOWTO (Terminal test for making your CPU Cores go to 100% load to test stability and monitor temperature)

Temperature Monitor: (temps may read 10C higher than BIOS due to bug in DSDT)
Temperature Monitor (main app, install this first)
Temperature Monitor Lite (menubar version)
Temperature Monitor Widget (Dashboard version)

Goal is Thanksgiving weekend. Just need to get this rotten IDE bug fixed...I think the new kext will do the trick

Hi,
Does someone know why I can't monitor my CPU temp with temperature monitor? I can monitor all my HDDs but not my CPU. My BIOS details are identical to this install and I have made sure smart fan control is enabled but still no option to monitor the CPU ??
I have an E7300 CPU (a 45nm cpu, has anyone else got temperature monitor running on a 45nm cpu?).

Is there a different program other than temperature monitor to monitor the CPU temps of my hackintosh? temperature monitor just doesn't want to work for me. I installed the extended x86 support and it was no different. My temp sensors are working fine in BIOS.

Any idea why i can only view my 3 HDD temps not my CPU temp? In the Window>Show system info drop menu it recognises my CPU as an e7300 although won't report any temp sensors.

I would like this too, especially seeing as my CPU fan might go out. Any thoughts on a cheap/quiet/simple replacement?

Edit: I think the IDE thing is working, Kaido. Like I said, I hung two drives off the IDE cable and everything worked fine. But you might try looking into the interaction between the network driver and the IDE driver, especially when one or both is active but not used (i.e. the IDE driver is enabled in bios, but nothing's plugged in and when the ethernet is enabled but unplugged).

Are you using the new jmicronATA.kext? Or the old legacyjmicron.kext?

The new kit has more temperature monitoring tools. Still trying to figure out the best solution to the +10C bug.

Pretty sure I'm using the new one. I just sold my computer, so I'm sans monitor right now, so I can't do anything to test, but when I get a new one (2408 here we come!) I'll try all the permutations of IDE/network plugged in.

Ok thanks Kaido. Do you want me to try with the newest package first? Or do you just want me to get online tonight and try?

Preparing for the end of on board sound eh? I have my iMic and I also bought one of those Syba dongles as well.

Any reason for me to try the new package? Everything works on mine. Now my 945 board, that's another story. For some reason my usb stick no longer shows up in CMOS. And even though my OS X drive is first in the priority list, it when the usb stick boots (still works, just doesn't show up in bios), it always comes up with another drive on my system. I have to disable all the other ones to make it boot my OS X drive. Still working on that one.

Not really, if your machine is already working fine I'd say don't bother. It's just a different order of existing steps, plus a new IDE kext. I still don't know if IDE is 100%. Either way I think I'm going to include it as an optional driver. Also no more need for EFI Studio or Kext Helper, I rewrote the instructions to simply use OSx86Tools for all the strings, kexts, etc.

If you'd like, we can get together online sometime and hash out a DSDT file and some custom drivers for your 945 board. That'd make it easier for you to do installs in the future on it.
