You touch on it, but it might be good to elaborate: at the Install Summary screen, under customize, one can uncheck all the Language Translation files that aren't needed. Also, open printers and uncheck everything but the make of printer(s) you need drivers for. Both of these can cut over 4GB of hard drive space and several minutes off the install time.

I find I always have to remind myself to do this, so thought it might be a good idea to add the reminder for everyone to your guide.

Good idea. I personally just install everything since I've got a 300gb boot drive & space isn't an issue - that way it has "everything" for the future, just in case. Mostly I'm just happy that we have the option to install everything unlike previous installs such as Kalyway

No. The beauty of Time Machine is it doesn't have 500 advanced power user options to confuse neophytes. I have a customer that has two backup drives for his leopard server, he takes one to work and opens time machines prefs to select it as the backup drive and takes the other one home. He does this every week for an offsite backup. But he has to open system preferences and select the new drive every time. We named them differently to avoid confusing him or Time Machine itself.

I cant use the search function atm. I wanted to see if anyone has used this guide to get a GA-P35-DS3P running osx? Or if there is a separate guide somewhere?

I know for certain that Apple Pro apps won't install or run if you don't have Quartz Extreme and Core Image enabled. Check Graphics/Displays in System Profiler after you get your card working. CI should read "Hardware Accelerated" and QE should say "Supported"

Thanks for the info Zaap,

I booted in safe mode and used OSX86 Tools to reinstall the GFX scripts for my card (using Kaido's newly revised guide). Last time I used the EFIStudio package for graphics and it was no bueno with Final Cut Studio 2.

Everything is working great now, although my XBench scores are just a little lower for the graphics card now...

Cheers to all, jludz

One bug I've experienced with the latest package is a result of the new IDE driver: if the display sleeps for more than a short while (say an hour), it won't wake up again. The system basically freezes. I got rid of the driver and the problem went away. My final package will only include the IDE driver as an experimental option.

ETA for release is Saturday

I'm a little bit confused on a minor point. Will the USB drive 24/7 still be required on the DS3L, or does some other bootloader on the disk work around that now?

I just ordered some hardware to get myself in shape for this. Really glad my existing config was most of the way there. This basically pushed me to upgrade to a bigger/faster drive (WD6400AAKS, plus a 1TB esata external).

The USB drive isn't required any more. Retail copy leopard + blank cd-r (to burn the boot132 disc) + kaido's DS3L package

That's awesome. So it's basically just the boot132 disc to install, and then is it Chameleon that emulates EFI from then on?

Are there PC motherboards available with EFI that would allow for an install w/o much modification? Not that I'm going to go buy one, but is it a technical possibility?

*** Final Call for Beta Testing ***

I need some willing vic-, er I mean beta testers for the latest release. Final phase. P35 and EP35 testers needed. You'll need a blank SATA hard drive plus the regular goods (DS3L system, Leopard, blank CD).

I ordered all of that crap today. If it gets here early (Friday) instead of on-time (Monday), I'd be willing to be a last minute guinea pig/noob. I'll PM you if Newegg comes through

Just thought I would tell everyone to get excited. Just installed with the new 1 click installer and it is amazing! I had everything up and going in less than an hour.

Worked okay, but locked up on me when I was doing the minor updates after doing the sound. Had to hit reset, rebooted and the updates then installed fine. Seems to be working okay so far.

Worked okay, but locked up when it tried to reboot after minor updates. I installed sound and then did the minor updates and when it went to reboot it locked up. Hit reset and rebooted, it installed the updates and things seem to be fine.

As always...any reason to reinstall if things are working fine? (Although I won't know if they're working fine until my 2408 gets here which is going to take a whole damn WEEK!!! Screw you, Saturdays, Sundays, and Thanksgiving holidays!)

I don't know if this has been brought up or not, or if anyone else has had this problem, but I noticed today on one of my new builds with the P35-DS3L mobo that the built-in Ethernet was dog-slow at transferring files over the LAN. (Have yet to test the 2nd machine as it's owner has it). Basically, it seemed like 10/100 speed rather than gigabit. I already did the network fix using OSXtools.

A 4GB transfer was reporting 25 minutes to copy over the LAN. Bleh.

Basically, I disabled onboard LAN and popped in a $9 Gigabit PCI card (at FRYS, that is) No drivers were needed by OSX. Now the LAN speed is like it should be.

Roughly 6 minutes to copy 4GB over the LAN- that's a bit more like it.

Are there any known issues with the on board LAN on these mobos and this install method? If this is typical, I'd highly suggest an add-on gigabit card.

Quick question. I did my latest install on my 80GB drive, I am wanting to transfer it over to my 150GB Raptor now that I have everything setup. What would be the easiest way about doing this? I tried just copying everything but it wouldn't boot.

Glad to be of any testing help Dude.

MB EP35, but no blank sata, have leopard on my sata hard disk. but can wash it clean and start from scratch if you like. let me know what I can do, since never done testing before. I am using R.1 with latest bios f6beta for this MB.

That SneakPreview photo of Universal OSX86 looks too damn delicious.

SuperDuper then install Chameleon DSDT to the cloned drive. The bootloader doesn't copy over in cloned drives.

Hmm - both of my P35-DS3L's transfer just fine. I'll do a fresh install and test again with a 4GB file to and from my NAS this evening to double-check.

Also the network fix in OSx86Tools doesn't actually do anything related to the Ethernet, it just fixes Time Machine (UUID). The Ethernet we're using for the DS3L is the Pystar R1000 driver. At least that company is good for something

Nope...this package is exactly what's posted before, except in a nice, consolidated app. We've tested the package as stable (minus IDE driver, that is) and this simply makes the installation easier for us.

Let's get together on AIM this week and hash things out. You shouldn't be experiencing any lockups unless it's hardware-related.
