Yeah so apparently Apple blocks the Quadro mod in 10.5.6 and that's why I was getting kernel panics. Feel free to upgrade to 10.5.6. You can delete the DSDT, it's not needed

Does sound work? Where do I delete the DSDT?

By the way, thank you very much for the guide. It took me no more than an hour after i had my computer assembled to having it up and running leopard flawlessly. Part of it was because I already had an SATA HD with Leopard imaged to it and it took less than 10 minutes to install. (I didn't do the install method for HD that you had in your guide, mainly because I didn't want to have to go through imaging it again. My HD had leopard on it because my macbook pro dvd drive died, and I needed to install it somehow, so I used an external enclosure. However, for this install I just plugged it right into the MB)

Haven't done extensive testing, but Taruga always needs to be re-installed after major point updates. dsdt.aml is located on your root boot partition, so just click on the hard drive icon on your desktop and delete the dsdt file from there (if it's there...there was a bug in Uinstaller v1.2 that sometimes didn't copy it to a secondary drive, so it may not even be there).

I couldn't get taruga working in 10.5.6. Tried the applehda patcher in your package although it still didn't work .. :-S

I know a member replied a few posts back with how he got audio working by using a different method - I will test that out later.

There's legacy HDA, but that causes popping (at least in .5). I'll mess with it more later tonight.

So I ran into a hiccup. I was able to install 10.5.4 (via DVD), opened up UInstaller and installed everything per the guide (I skipped the DSDT patch), installed the 10.5.5 combo and then rebooted. When it's booting though, I'm getting a boot0:GPT boot0:HFS+ boot0: error.

If I put the boot cd, i'm able to go to the desktop, it just can't restart on it's own. I tried reinstalling the patches via Uinstaller but it still won't boot.

Any ideas?

Do you have anything else on the hard drive? Was the hard drive partitioned to GUID?

Brand new HD, partitioned to GUID as well. I'm reinstalling right now (3rd time's the charm).

Edit: 3rd time was not the charm. I even installed the DSDT patch, but still getting stuck at

boot0:GPT
boot0:HFS+
boot0: error

I did a quick google search and I believe it has something to do with Chameleon. I have tried re-installing it using the Uinstaller but it hasn't worked. Should I try installing Chameleon a different way (if that is the problem)?

Edit: Don't know if it makes a difference but screen redraws lag. Moving any window takes a second or so to respond to me moving it.

Re-install, but this time leave the video driver out. Don't install the video driver until you've seen whether or not you get the boot0 error.

Yeah I have no sound either in 10.5.6, but am using the USB sound dongle for now. I understand there is more than one version of the ALC888 used in the DS3L, is this true?

There are different methods, but the HDA kext I tried caused popping on analog, which is super lame.

Okay, I believe the problem was/is the DSDT.AML file. Originally I tried the taruga patcher with the DSDT file in place. I since remove it to get my firewire back. I just tried the taruga again and now it works. Even better I now have a level control for the line out, digital out and headphones as well. Very cool.

Re-installed again and left out the "Apply EFI String for Video Card", installed 10.5.5 and i still got the boot0:error.

The previous install where I said the screen redraws were laggy actually fixed itself after I installed the 1st batch of updates from "Software Update".

I even tried this but it still didn't work.

I'll keep hunting at insanelymac....

Figured it out!!!!

It was my hdd, it was too f%*#ing big! I created 2 partitions. I made the main boot partition 500GB and the other one came out to a little under 900GB. I installed everything per the guide and voila! No more boot0:error!

Are you kidding me?? The bootloader must not support the 1.5TB drives then...I've got a 1TB on one of mine and it runs just fine @ 931gb formatted. WEIRD dude!

Great guide, Kaido!! Is the video on its way?

One question: if I have the install working, and then change my video card (from 8500 to 7600), what do I need to update and how?

Yup that's what fixed it. Kinda wish that I didn't have to go through 8 installs to figure that out...

One small note you might want to add to your guide. Initially I wanted to install Leopard using the "Hard Drive Installation Method" but I wasn't able to. The steps require you to partition the HDD in Mac OX Extended (Journaled) with GUID which is not a problem. The problem is the Mac OS Installer won't let you install Leopard on a GUID Partition when you are running on a PPC. I was doing this on a G5.

Anyway, thanks for the great guide. If it wasn't for my 1.5TB hdd issue, the install was a piece of cake!

Eventually. I have to redo it now that 10.5.6 is working lol. I also split it into 4 sections - intro, dvd install, hdd install, system setup.

To change your video card, open Uinstaller, select the new card, install, reboot.

ok, just an FYI, the newest installer fixed my bonjour issues I had, as well as video taking 10 seconds to show from a cold monitor. woohoo.

but does anyone have issues w/ playing videos on MSN's video site? I think it still doesn't play because it thinks I have a power pc (which silverlight had issues with until you deleted the check).

A quick and easy way to dual boot Leopard and Vista on the same HD. First off this has only been tested on a GA-P35-DS3L with the Retail install of Leopard and Vista Ultimate x64 because that is what I have available. Be sure to read through entirely before attempting so you catch all of the hints I thought of while I was typing. That said, here goes:

1. When setting up the HD to install Leopard, setup at least 2 partitions. Setup the first partition for Leopard, formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Under options, be sure Guid Partition Table is selected. The second partition will be used for the Vista install and should be formatted as DOS for now. It's a good idea to name the partition VISTA so it will be easier to spot when you are actually installing Vista. Optional: Setup a third partition for shared data between the two operating systems. If you do this be sure to format the common partition as DOS so it can be used by both systems.

2. Install Leopard, using Kaido's guide of course. After Leopard is installed, updated and bootable, insert the Vista DVD into the optical drive and restart the computer.

3. Once Vista has loaded it's files and you have selected your language, etc., you have to choose where to install Vista. Highlight the partition you setup earlier and reformat the drive as NTFS so that Vista can be installed. Once reformatted select NEXT to install Vista. Sit back and relax or have a snack while Vista installs, it ain't quick.

4. Once Vista has been installed and it has checked your computer's performance, etc., you can use Internet Explorer to downloaded EASYBCD. Just Google for EASYBCD and it should be the first link. After EASYBCD is installed, run it to setup the dual boot.

5. Vista will be the only OS shown when you start the program, so you will need to add your install of Leopard to the boot menu. Select Add/Remove Entries under the EasyBCD Toolbox for this. Under Add an Entry, click on Mac and click the pull down menu and select Generic x86 PC. Change the name to whatever you wish to use and finally click Add Entry. You should see the name you chose in the Manage Existing Entries window above. Click Save.

6. Next select Change Settings from the EasyBCD ToolBox. Under Global Settings, select your Default OS and the Bootloader Timeout. Click Save Settings. That's about it.

The way I did it was to choose Leopard as my default OS and set the timeout to 5 seconds. So when my system boots it goes to the Vista bootloader and Leopard is highlighted. After the 5 seconds is up, control is transferred to the Darwin bootloader and there is another 5 second pause before Leopard starts up. If this is too long for you adjust the timeout in EasyBCD and/or for the Darwin bootloader.

Be sure to use a HD of sufficient space. Vista requires about 30 Gb minimum and I wouldn't recommend any less than that for Leopard. About the minimum drive size I would recommend if using the shared data partition is 80 Gb. Leopard (30 GB), Vista (30 Gb), Data (20 Gb).

Hope you find this useful...

mosslack thanks for the quick guide on installing vista. Can you answer one question for me? When I try selecting the HDD for Vista to install in, I get a "This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer BIOS menu." Any idea how to fix that? The HDD is connected to the last SATA port on my pc, not sure if that makes a difference...
