Should I order a network card for use with the G31M board? It seems like everyone was using a network card for the other motherboards. USB audio too, right?

I think I'd like to see the USB stick method still written into future guides, it's really a great way to do it. Keeping the HDD hack-free would be absolutely *fantastic* for purists.
There must be a way to write a simple Apple script that ejects the drive on boot, based on the UUID.Originally posted by: Kaido
The only thing that really irks me about the USB drive is that I haven't found a way to prevent it from mounting at boot, so the icon shows up on the desktop. I gave it a nice name and a pretty icon, but still...just a tiny tiny tiny bit annoying lol
I wouldn't count on it.Originally posted by: Kaido

Hope so!

Is the new tutorial gonna showcase a board that supports 16GB?
The UD3P supports 16gb (several working kits already available). It's hideously expensive though :Q
Edit: You'd be better off waiting for 10.5.7 + native Core i7 support, since a 12GB DDR3 kit is cheaper than a 16G DDR2 kit by like $200, plus you can upgrade to 24GB later on when kits become available.

My hack slipped into a strange video mode. It looks like some kind of reverse-video. I was playing around with configuring the icon view, and with a script that automatically positioned my windows, when this happened.
Did you happen to hit ctrl+option+apple+8 at the same time? That puts the monitor in 'negative' mode, which sounds like what you're describing. Try hitting this key combo and see if it switches back.

I'm assuming- there's no need for the system to access the hack kexts AFTER the OS has booted?

I guess I'll go that way. The $200 you save in RAM ends up going to the mobo so cost wise it's a wash. However, performance wise, it's a big win, especially when 24GB comes down in price. BTW, I see a few Core i7 wish lists on NewEgg.

Have you ever considered working on the UD5 Kaido ?
I'd be happy to donate towards this cause ! when you say 10.5.7 will have native support, does that mean the Gigabyte X58-UD5 should work with a similar method to yours ?
I'm always following this thread at insanely but it's pretty cryptic.
I know it seems like the current setups are fast enough, I know my Q9550 is awesome. But the Core i7 setup would have only cost an extra $150 (with 3gb more ram) and it's roughly 30% faster.

The Core i7 platform is more expensive up front, but of course you get the performance benefit right off the bat, so it will be interesting to see what happens this month as far as software support goes! That GTX 260 is looking pretty dang nice haha...

I wondered about that also, looks like a good deal if it will work with Leo.

I'm about to place an order for my hackintosh hardware (first timer). If somebody has a moment and feels like offering an opinion...

I'm going for a fairly budget system. It comes in at just under £300 - right on target. I've searched the usual places and the components seem to be compatible for OSx86 purposes. I'm a little worried about the video card but I've seen one or two people say it works so I'll take a chance.
Thoughts?

That video card will work fine. When in doubt about a video card, if you have access to a Mac already, just open up Uinstaller, or EFIstudio or some other EFI strings tool and check that the card + memory amount is on the list. Rarely does the specific brand matter all that much, unless the card has been modified by a vendor. You can also check the HCL wiki in insanelymac.Originally posted by: Dalorin

I wouldn't doubt it- I'm just curious by what exact method does Apple determine if someone has official Apple hardware?I've just found some discussions implying that Apple won't give you a certificate to distribute apps if you don't have official Apple hardware. Anybody know the real story?
