Anyone get any issues with LAN not working? I just put together a media center with the g31m-es2l board and LAN is the only thing giving me issues. I've reinstalled kaido's g31m kit a few times and even verified to make sure the realtekr1000 kext was installed in the right location. I've rebooted with -f -v and nothing either.

Looking at the network preference pane, it seems my router is not feeding it the right ip address (192.168.0.5). It has a 169.xxx.xxx.xxx IP address. I've turned off the router and that didn't help either.

Any clues or ideas?

What exactly is the relationship to a Windows trojan, and 'modified kexts?'

Did you apply the 'ethernet fix' if there is one with Kaido's guide?

My own ES2L system doesn't have any realtek kext, but Ethernet works great. (I added it to the boot.plist using EFI strings.)

Yup, I did the Uinstaller and checked off the "Ethernet fix".

Are there BIOS settings we have to set for this board? Was something posted? I didn't see anything.

Hi Kaido,

Great job on the UD3P kit. I was wondering what is the best way to properly migrate from 10.5.6 -> 10.5.7? Are there any instructions somewhere? I don't want to reinstall my entire system. If it means changing out some kexts. Thanks!

1. Make a full, working backup
2. Install 10.5.7 (from Software Update or else download the Combo Update)
3. If it works, yay...if it fails, just restore your backup!

You can also install the bootloader & drivers to your hard drive and ditch the USB method if you'd like

I think your speakers or something else is causing the hum...I tried onboard sound & USB sound on my ES2L on 3 different sets of speakers and it's nice and clean-sounding on all of them! At the very least, the USB should give you clean sound if something is amuck with your board, so I'd check groundings, wiring, etc. to see exactly where the problem lies.

Make a backup (that you can restore from), then install the 10.5.7 update - if it fails, then just pop your update back on. I've read that 10.5.7 screws up if audio kexts are bundled in the Mkext (not 100% sure of that though), so I put them in SLE instead. You can run the latest Uinstaller plugin and then update to 10.5.7 if you'd like, just be sure to make a working system backup first!

Is onboard Ethernet enabled in BIOS? It's under "Integrated Peripherals" as "Onboard H/W LAN: [Enabled]". You might also try deleting the Ethernet entry in System Preferences, then adding it back in again, and also try disabling DHCP and then enabling it again (also in Sys Prefs).

So this morning I turned it on and I received an error message stating the RealtekR1000 kext was improperly installed. I pressed ok and then opened up safari and voila, it worked! I'm able to connect to it as well. Not sure what the problem was since I restarted a ton of times last night and nothing changed this morning....

I'll just let this become one of those unexplained mysteries of the world.

Sounds like the permissions may not have been properly set on the kext. If you keep getting the same error, you could try reinstalling the kext again with kexthelper, which will set the correct permissions. Also repair your permissions with disk utility. It sounds like it's actually working without the kext- because, you know, it does. ( As I recall, like with other boards, after setup I was online downloading the system updates before installing a single kext for anything.)

I can't offer much advice except to say that I set up a system with that board last night and Ethernet worked OOTB. Weird.

Thanks for the replies guys. For now I'll leave it as it is since it's decided to start working now. I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope it stays that way. I'll end up picking up a PCI ethernet card anyway one of these days.

Did you install the drivers using the Hard Drive method? Or install the drivers and then run updates? i.e. what was your installation method?

To fix it, just re-install the R1000 driver using Kext Helper (or Uinstaller).

It only partially works OOTB. Bonjour/AFP (stuff like iTunes shares) don't work without the R1000 kext. But you can get online without the driver.

I used the Hard Drive method. I was having problems screen sharing as well but after re-installing the r1000 driver w/uinstaller, everything is working perfectly! Thanks a bunch!

Yah, I switched the Hard Drive install method from Leopard, Latest Point Update, and Drivers to just Leopard - that way it doesn't screw up the installation of the drivers and whatnot.

And now for my question...

Was the Windows side running in a VM or was it a dual boot? I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on my first hackintosh HTPC and was thinking about doing the same thing.

P.S. - Thanks to all who have contributed to this thread, especially Kaido. It has been a great read the last few months.
