thnx

Officially I am only supporting the DS3L in my guide. Eventually I will probably convert it to a more general guide, I dunno yet. I will add the UD3P when I have time. For now, if you want a super stable awesome board, the DS3L is great (EP35 or P35).

Oh now im excited ... :-D I like these breakthroughs. I have 2 macs (real ones).

As leglez said if you need any testing done I got a spare USB HDD i can use - kind of used up all my satas. Anything to give me an excuse to procrastinate from uni work.

Well, my DS3L Hac is running like a Swiss watch. I'm eagerly anticipating anything newer/better/bigger/faster/smoother/easier/cooler that Kaido cooks up. Thanks again!

Wow... Kaido just screen shared me and showed me the whole process and I am in complete amazement. It literally took 10 minutes at the most to completely install Leopard. The whole thing is just amazing!

Hmm with the new method after installing 10.5.5 it boots up fine, but then after installing all the minor updates it wont boot. I get the following:

ntpdate [63]: can't find host time.apple.com
ntpdate [63]: no servers can be used, exiting
/usr/sbin/ocspd [67]: starting

I have a feeling it has something to do with automatic time updates or whatever. Is there anyway I can disable it without actually booting?

Edit:

Ok booted into safe mode and turned automatic time updates off and it boots fine now. Going to run the rest of the updates and then try turning it off again.

Edit:

Ok now its a different problem. When booting I get the following:

mDNSResponder mDNSResponder-176.2 (date/time) [32]: starting
/usr/sbin/ocspd [71]: starting

I can still boot to safe mode fine. But can't get it to boot up without safe mode.

According to This Thread it has something to do with the EFI Strings. How would I go about reinstalling the EFI strings? Do I just reapply the 1-Click Installer?

Also my drives are still showing as orange externals. Any way to fix this?

Do you have IDE drives in the system? I was having a similar issue, I think possibly the same as your last error. It happened after I was installing the 10.5.5 update.

I had to go into the BIOS, disable onboard IDE, then OSX booted fine. I then reinstalled the JMicron ATA kext from the DS3L-Kit.zip package. Rebooted, re-enabled IDE in bios, and its fine.

The only remaining issue I'm having now is with my overclock. I have an E2200 stable at 3.2 GHz (8x400), but it won't come out of sleep while oc'ed. It does the on-off thing 3 times, then reverts back to stock FSB (so 8x200, which is actually an underclock). Not really sure what's going on with that.

Ok yeah I have an IDE dvd drive and hard drive I will disable onboard and see if that helps. Thanks!

Edit:

Hmm tried that and it is still sitting at:

mDNSResponder mDNSResponder-176.2 (date/time) [32]: starting
/usr/sbin/ocspd [71]: starting

That's really odd. Maybe try disabling LAN, and if it boots, reapply that kext?

Hmm with LAN disabled I get:

mDNSResponder mDNSResponder-176.2 (date/time) [32]: starting
/usr/sbin/ocspd [71]: starting
fseventsd [39]: log dir. /Volumes/Storage fseventsd getting new uuid: (Long stream of letters and numbers are here I can write them down if neccessary)

Well, we're getting somewhere I suppose

You definitely disabled IDE in the BIOS, right? I'm assuming a retail install on a DS3L? For me, it was strictly the 10.5.5 update that hosed it. What were the minor updates?

Hell, try disabling onboard audio as well. See if it boots.

Do you have a separate PCI Ethernet card in there?

Yep I turned Onboard IDE Controller off. Yep P35-DS3L. The minor updates were like Quicktime, Safari, iTunes.

I have a PCI Ethernet card. It isn't plugged in right now. Want me to try plugging it in?

No. I suspect this is due to the pre-installation of the 10.5.5 Combo Update via HDD (the USB plug issue is probably only the tip of the iceberq). So if you want, just do a fresh install with the HDD-based method, but don't run updates until you get to the desktop.

Ok I will try that and see if it works. Can I use Carbon Copy Cloner or whatever to copy my new install back to my raptor?

My Raptor install is the only install I have right now, so I will install to my 80GB then copy everything from my Raptor install to my 80GB then CCC my 80GB to my Raptor. Would that work? I remeber it you used to have to reapply chameleon. Do you still have to?

1. Use SuperDuper
2. Install PC EFI v9 to the cloned drive (after you're done cloning)

Why wouldn't a MacBook count? I highly doubt that whatever Kaido is talking about is going to require more than 6GB RAM

From what I have seen a Macbook will work, it just might require an extra step.

You can't resize the partition once you've created it with MBR. If you use GUID, you can re-partition any time you want.

Is there always, or sometimes, data loss when you do this?
