Kaido, I appreciate your hard work, I really do. But please finish the stuff you already started (the DS3L guide) before messing with other hardware.

In Disk Utility, I get a "unsupported" listed for Burn Support. System Profiler disagrees and lists generic support.

I used it burn the boot cd and it work flawlessly. I did burn at the slowest speed possible though.

I pretty much consider the guide finished sans the video. I used it, followed it to the letter and got a perfect install. I know Kaido is updating it for 10.5.6 but if it gets updated for every release, technically it will never be finished. If Kiado wants to add more support for more hardware, I applaud him and more power to him.

P.S. Kaido, go ahead and work on that plug-in. I'm getting my sister an MSI Wind in the next week so it would be perfect!

Edit:
Umm, I think the MSI Wind uses the N270 and not the 230 board. :-(

hrm, yeah, i tried slowest, fastest, set at 4x... they all burn at the exact same speed for me (this is an issue I've had since day one though, on a real mac). All my coasters are legit coasters, won't play. Disk Utility works fine though.

Might want to look at your media then. I've had really good luck with Taiyo Yuden.

v1.0 was released a week ago

You must have missed some discussion - it works just fine with 10.5.6. I posted a few pages back that my modded video card was the reason it wasn't installing initially for me.

Mine says "Burn Support: Unsupported" in Disc Utility as well, but it works jus fine. I use Disco all the time. Maybe you have bad discs? What DVD drive are you using?

Thank you for your reply, Kaido. Do you have any another suggestions from NewEgg stock?

A lot of people have been using the 256mb 8400 GS successfully. I can't link to any specific card because I don't want to recommend one and have it not work because I haven't tried it personally, but browse a few pages here and see what people are using. Unfortunately all of my cards are like a year old haha.

You know, I'm really feeling like I should setup a wiki. This way everyone can add their own information and share what works and what doesn't...

Oh well that's weird. Latest version of Disco? Again, what DVD drive do you have? That's very odd indeed!

just adding info for sake of having the info out there...

Used the drive here. Latest version of Disco. All media was from the same spindle, MCC 004 Verbatim. Ports 1 and 3/4(the last one on the P35-DS3L board).

the ones that failed all failed in verification, all w/in a few seconds of starting. None of the burns worked. The Disk Utility burns were fine, worked great. All from the same image.

itunes burns audio cds fine. rips fine. reads normal dvds fine, rips em fine. so if anyone happens to come across this again, we can sit and compare =)

Wait, so 10.5.6 is working? I'm not sure what it does that 10.5.5 doesn't do, so I'm not so sure I want to risk borking my install by upgrading, but, like, should I upgrade?

Obviously, letting Software Update do it would be bad, right?

I had issues upgrading via software update with my actual macbook, so I would use the combo update. I updated via combo update on my hack and it is fine just no onboard audio. Will have to get one those usb sound cards or something one day.

As I am in Australia newegg is out of the question.

That looks to be about the same as the one I bought on NewEgg. Just a plug for the USB connections and a jack for sound out and sound in. I would say it will work. JMHO

I've done it both ways and both work fine for me. I lost sound initially, but once I removed the DSDT.AML file and re-applied the sound patch it is working fine again for me. YMMV

GA-P35-DS3L was very difficult to get but got my hands on a used one. No im trying to find a graphic card. Zotac GeForce 8600GT 256MB DDR3 PCI-E TV/2xDVI is also out of stock everywhere in Warsaw. These are my options, all are on your list. What would you advise?

* GIGABYTE G.8400GS 512DDR2/64B DVI 134
KARTA GRAFICZNA PCIE GIGABYTE G.8400GS 512DDR2/64B DVI

* ASUS GF7300GT SILENT 256DDR2

* GAINWARD 8400GS 256DDR2 HDMI

Ordered the retail OS X. But in Poland it costs 219 USD!

Thanks for your help, Roel

Works either way. ALWAYS have a backup before upgrading a Hackintosh Apple recommends doing the full-on 684mb-ish Combo Update for this one though.

The 10.5.6 guide will be released this coming Saturday. No DSDT + 10.5.6 Combo Update instead of 10.5.5, that's all. Real easy.

Avoid the 512mb card, they usually have problems. I have a 256mb PNY 7300GT and 256mb Zotac 7300GT and both work fine. The 512mb Zotac 7300GT has been tested and does NOT work. The 256mb 8400 GS has been tested as working.

It is on your index, but just want to be sure.

Thanks a lot, Roel

Warning: Just because it's on the EFI Strings supported list, doesn't mean it's actually supported. The original creator went through and made a big list, but for financial reasons obviously could not test every single card. My recommendation is to (1) avoid 512mb cards, and (2) find a card that already works, that someone has tested, and buy that.

Found another Zotec

Zotac GeForce 8600GT Zone Edition 256MB DDR3 PCI-E TV/2xDVI

Where can I find more tested cards? In the threads and on the wiki page? I need a few possibilities because not everything is available here.

It might be time to retire the P35-DS3L- it's still a great board but eventually the remaining supply is going to dry up.

Just did an install with the GA-EP45-UD3P + Q6600, 16GB, 7600GT (temp until replacement)
Prepped board

Built system (pre rat's nest wiring cleanup)

Booted/installed with Grub-dfe and retail 10.5.4

Right after install, LAN worked OOB, direct System Updated to 10.5.6 without issue.

Rebooted (-v -f) ran UInstaller and selected:

Boot timeout to 5

Nothing for native Boot Res (I've had even a 'correct' setting put my monitor out of range during boot)

PC_EFI v9 Chameleon 1.0.12

Applied the Ethernet EFI String.

Applied the EFI string for my video card.

Installed 4 kext files.

Voila! Done, and it runs perfectly! Using USB audio (better anyway) rather than the onboard, so I didn't futz with onboard. My friend who owns it is already editing a show with this beast.

I highly recommend this board and install method added to the guide if it isn't already- it's fairly cheap/newer-gen, and fully working.

Works: LAN (board has dual LAN, both worked) Sleep/Shutdown/Restart (After installing Chameleon- before that had to force a restart after first update), onboard Firewire, USB, update to 10.5.6

Not working: About this Mac reports 2.4 GHz Unknown (easy fix, haven't bothered), Orange HD icons- system must be set to AHCI. Haven't looked for the AHCI fix yet for the orange drives.

Not yet tried: onboard audio (reported working) eSata (2 purple ports + powered bracket), ATA
