swapped out my 8800GT 512MB and put in a 7300GT 256MB... my benchmarks are better And no buggy monitor on issues.. argh... now I have to sell the 8800GT, and so much for getting a good card in hopes of taking advantage of OpenCL more.

Is there another card you might recommend that supports CUDA (i.e. 8x00 series) and has no issues (mouse/monitor)? And, hopefully, is quiet and cheap?

I thought the 8600 I had would be fine, but this mouse issue is killing me. It's either get a new card or move back to 10.5.5. :-(;

My wife has a 320mb 8800GTS, XFX I think, and it doesn't seem to have any problems. I just upgraded hers to 10.5.6 with the new Voodoo package over the weekend and I haven't encountered any problems yet.

The major problem right now is that the 8x00 series are being deprecated and are harder and harder to find. On the plus side, you can buy them cheaper used on eBay or FS/FT

Where could i download the driver for the PS/2 port? I have my old keyboard and my mouse. I don't want to buy the new one with usb. Therefore i think to reuse those.
Another question: Can i use my old hard driver (already have window xp) to my hackint0sh? Can u still use F12 to boot my window xp? my old hard drive is not sata connection? Thanks

Huh. Are newer cards supported under Hack?

I just bought another WD 640 Blue, so I'm going to pop that in an enclosure, back my biz up, and start over, I guess. Maybe I'll just stick with 10.5.5 unless someone has some bright ideas.

I just built my first Hackintosh. still figuring out what patches to use, and what parts of the hacks I can use, but it is pretty stable (though sluggish at times).

Intel Q6600
Abit AW9D 975X
eVGA 8800GTS 512MB
750GB Seagate 7200.11

It works though and I'm happy. No overclocks are stable, but the system runs cool under watercooling.

Nah, that's the problem. The newest card support is like the NVIDIA 9800GTX and the ATI HD 3870. In simple terms, the concept is driver-libraries. You can install a driver, but without the supporting libraries for it to reference, it won't work. For example, the 8800GT isn't support until 10.5.2, because Apple didn't add the supporting libraries in for that card until the .2 release. So if you boot it up pre-10.5.2, it will be in VESA mode, but if you try installing the driver pre-10.5.2, it will boot into a Kernel Panic because it will be looking for non-existent supporting libraries. That's the concept, anyway. Snow Leopard will bring additional support for cards like the ATI 4870, but may or may not lose support for older cards on Hackintoshes, and may or may not be easy to Hackintosh (at least right away).

I need to learn to image my system after every step and reboot. I have 2 hard drives for a reason....

10.5.5 killed my Hack. back to square one.

I should weigh in here as well. Recently built my first Hackintosh over the past few weeks.

Components used:

Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P Motherboard
Intel Quad-Core Q9550 Processor
4GB Corsair DDR-800 Memory (4 more gigs to be added shortly)
256MB eVGA 8600GT
2 750 GB Sata Drives for OS
1 100 Gig SATA drive for Windows Separate Boot
Using the USB-Drive to boot the 122Boot loader, didn't use the chameleon loader.
OCZ 500Watt PS
Antec Three Hundred Case
Vanilla Leopard Install

Everything works beautifully! The *ONLY* problem I have encountered is with iSale right now. I have contacted Equinox support for options. I have heard of another guy who had problems with iSale, and it was due to some of the shared web library extensions from a specific version of Safari on his system. So, this MAY not necessarily be due to my system being a Hackintosh. More to come on that later. Beyond that, everything works GREAT!! I couldn't be happier.

EDIT / UPDATE : iSale support provided me with the following recommendation which fixed my problem. As an FYI, I had installed this program on my fresh Leopard install, but after performing the following actions everything works!

Please try deleting the following files:
"Macintosh HD/Users/YOURUSERNAME/Library/Preferences/com.equinux.iSale5.plist"
"Macintosh HD/Users/YOURUSERNAME/Library/Application Support/iSale5"
"Macintosh HD/Users/YOURUSERNAME/Library/Caches/com.equinux.iSale5"

Please note that doing so will delete your auctions and preferences as well, so make a
copy of them if you need to access your old data

So you are booting from a flash drive? What is this obsession with people still using this method when booting directly from the HD is so much easier/better? Kaido, perhaps you need to update the first page and just use links to the old method as well as the new method. JMHO

Eh, the update is like 4 months overdue. It's all a matter of free time, haha. I've slimmed down the guide quite a bit for the Wiki and will be launching it sometime this month, so we'll have a February thread soon

Are there any problems with the 3870? I am thinking about switching from my 8800 to the 3870 to get rid of the itunes problem.

Just the power management problem - the fan spins full-tilt, so it's pretty noisy. I replaced mine with a silent heatsink. Totally silent now

Wasn't this the board which had the audio ports switched around? I think Kaido had some info on that. I'm still waiting on parts for mine.

I haven't checked my line-in yet.. But if I find a microphone laying around I can try... (Don't think I have one though)

Besides that, another EP45-UD3P related question. I've had two 1x1GB Sticks of DDR800 OCZ memory running great. I just received two 2GB sticks of Corsair XMS DDR800 memory. Every time I use that memory I get strange crashes, etc.... I haven't run the memtest yet, but is there any issues with bumping up to 4+ gigs with a Q9550 processor on the EP45-UD3P that anyone is aware of? I may grab the same OCZ ram out of another PC and bump it up again to test. Just curious.

Sorry to sound so ignorant here, but when you say "solve my problem" do you mean that it will FIX things, or identify the fault as being the memory, etc..? As I understand it, that is just to verify the read/write integrity of the memory itself to identify whether or not the memory is good/bad. Just asking, thanks!!

Thanks for your help Mosslack

Downloaded the bootloader from page 14 (was it page 14?) and installed it. OSX now working without USB stick. Still a few issues.

OSX is not recognizing SATA port 04 and 05. This seems to be a known problem. I tried to find a solution with the NVKush kext which I changed for the original. Didn't help a bit. Any solutions on that one?

No sound whatsoever. Itunes won't start audiofiles. Is this a matter of getting updates for Itunes or is it something else? Maybe trying to fix it with AppleAzaliaAudio which provides suport for onboard audio?

Hi Roel, I don't remember what board this was, but if it is the GA-P35-DS3L, Kaido's kit should have everything you need to make this work as it should. Keep in mind that the audio should be installed after all of the updates have been applied as 10.5.6 does mess up the sound. Also when you apply the patch, be sure to go into the sound pref and check that the line out is selected because most time it is the headphone that is selected.

As for sata port 4, once everything has been installed you should be able to switch the HD to any port and it should still work. Be sure the proper kext package was installed for your particular mobo in the Uinstaller, along with the mkext as well. HTH
