http://tinyurl.com/ct6ubk

Not the best solution, but the one which fits my limited budget at the moment. May go with a new complete system in the future, saw some Asus mobos I would like to Hack, but at a minimum by the time you add RAM, case, etc. it would end up costing over twice what I paid for this USB DVI VGA adapter. Who knows, by the time I'm ready for a new system Snow Leopard might be out and we might be talking a Core i7 system by then!

does the dual monitor work on the video card?

I haven't even unpacked the new monitors yet, but I do know 2 monitors work fine using a single card with dual outputs. When I setup the PCI card in Vista, I had 4 displays listed in the display properties, so it would work fine in Vista. Not having all 3 monitors available in OS X was the deal breaker for me, which is why I ordered the USB video solution. This will do until a new dual PCI express system can be acquired.

I wonder if a mac pci video card would work. I may be able to get an older one to try. curious.

I really doubt it, as Intel Macs have never used a PCI video card. But as always, let us know if it does work!

Rats- I was really hoping to be wrong and that you'd get it working.

I looked into PCI video cards when I first built a dual core Atom 945GCLF2 system. It's such a perfect little board for Hackintosh- everything works perfectly and it allows one to build a Hack almost as small as the Mac Mini, but the built in GMA 950 graphics are its main weakness. If it were possible to a upgrade to decent PCI graphics via the only slot, it'd make a much better system.

I found one guy who had attempted it on the web. He actually got video to work through the PCI slot, but had all sorts of trouble; the system crashing, really unstable, terrible video artifacts, etc. I forget if he even got CI-QE working or not, but definitely his conclusion was that it wasn't worth messing with. Still, the fact that he got it working at all was pretty amazing.

I knew it was a long shot, but I had to try. I'm sure it could work if the OS was more open to the idea, but being as the code doesn't exist to recognize such a beast then it would be difficult to rewrite the whole subsystem.

I don't believe the USB solution provides CI-QE either, which is puzzling as they say DVD playback is smooth using the device. I guess I'll find out when it gets here. This is just a temporary fix until I can afford to go with a new system. I'm really thinking Asus this time around as I have never tried one of those as a Hack yet.

Sounds like your getting that kernel panic on the way down. I hope they get that working. It may be the same issue with snow.

I will write more later, here's just a quick update: Sleep works! The bad guy in my system was my Realtek 8139D based Network card - I fell back to the buildin NIC with the kext provided by Kaido and sleep works with the disabler.kext, SleepEnabler.kext and VoodooPower.kext - also I managed to get my Radeon HD4850 running without an injector or natit from netkas by putting a hex string into the Boot.plist.
I love it

I chose to install a driver Package Realtek provides for their Nics, now it comes back from sleep immediatly, runs at full speed and I'm loving it even more. The only thing that kinda bugs me now is that I get a lot of errors in my log:

_CFGetHostUUIDString: unable to determine UUID for host. Error: 35... I got rid of those errors via installing UUID.kext from insanelymac forum, but that is actually just a nasty hack.

Almost all applications throw them... hmm

Hi Gymnae,

A quick question. Does sleep work automatically when you set in Energy Settings to sleep after a given time interval?

I have not upgraded to 10.5.8 yet, but it 10.5.7 sleep worked fine when manually started, but it never went to sleep automatically. The monitor went off, but fans and drives all continue working. It wakes up fine, but I get a "USB Device not properly removed" warning. I use a thumb drive to boot, to keep my system pure vanilla using Chameleon 2 RC2 with /E/E on the USB drive.

Thank you.

H.

Hi,
I tried it just now and the Monitor goes to sleep, but the system itself stays awake. I can move the mouse and the System is back immediately.

I haven't followed the thread much lately. But I was wondering how Chameleon was coming along? Is it recommended to be used yet? I have Vista, and OSX.

Definitely still a bit buggy, but I'm using the new RC 2 version of 2.0. It was the reason why I could not update to 10.5.8 on my UD3P, but I found that doing the update using the Kaido recommended version in the Uinstaller works fine and then once installed the new 2.0 version can be used again. I too dual boot Vista and OS X so that is why I needed it to work. HTH

If I install it how easy is it to go back to the old setup if I don't like it? Also are there any guides on installing it?

Does anyone know how one can create a custom Boot 132 bootable cd that contains the properly edited boot.plist file and my own set of kexts? If I use Kaidos boot disc, the strings on the boot.plist for my video card are missing.

I tried creating one using both Slimbuild, and SlimBuild GUI, but when I boot with the CD, all I get is the option to boot from the Slimbuild CD. I do not get the option to boot from hard drive or from another boot CD. It basically does not behave like Kaido's CD.

This is the SlimBuild GUI I used:

http://pcwizcomputer.com/index...=view&id=148&Itemid=48

Googling this only points me to SlimBuilder.

The purpose is that I want my system 100% vanilla. I use a USB thumb drive to boot with Chameleon. In case of failure with the thumb drive, I want to be able to pop in the CD and boot with everything enabled.

Is what I am asking at all possible?

Thanks,

Hernando

Simple package installation, just like updates, very easy to do. If you are not happy with 2.0, just reinstall the older Chameleon using the Uinstaller. I've went back and forth several times with no problems that I am aware of. If you are using EasyBCD currently to dual boot, you should be able to continue using it AFAIK. Zaap might have more/better info on this.

3 monitor update. Seems I ordered the wrong vesa mounts, got 75mm instead of 100mm, so that part of the project is on hold until the new parts arrive, probably next week sometime. The USB-DVI-VGA adapter will be here on Monday, according to UPS tracking, so hopefully the new mounts will be here later in the week so I can move this project to completion. I will be working on the desk this weekend to make everything ready for the arrival of the new mounts. Pictures will be posted to my flickr account once it is finished. I will post a link at that time.

Not sure how I previously had a double post of my monitor update here, but being as I already have the space, let me just say that I have decided to do a complete pictorial of the project, starting with what my desk looks like before I start on this project. Stay tuned...

It works perfectly fine for me. No delay after wake up and really fast speed.

I think t's incredible that realtek has driver support for the x86 project. Thats just amazing!

Does it really have driver support for OSx86, or for Intel Macs using that card? AFAIK, no company actually supports OSx86 (except Psystar), but many have peripherals that work in both Windows' PC's and Intel Macs and provide support for both operating systems.

Well I downloaded a package for Intel from their site called RTMac_v2.0.3 and there comes an Installer with it. Which NICs are compatible I dunno, but it works for me.
The Installer has the following inf: "This is the Mac OS X (10.4/10.5) driver for Realtek PCI-E Ethernet Network Adapter. The system will be rebooted after the driver is installed, so please close all the other applications before installing the driver. After the system is rebooted, please follow the following steps to configure the network:
1. Select the "System Preference" from the system menu.
2. Select and launch the "Network" item in the "System Preference" folder.
3. From the "Configure" list, select the adapter to be configured.
4. Configure the settings.
5. Click the "Save" button.
Then you can connect to the Ethernet.......

NOTE: This driver is for Mac OS X 10.4 or newer versions on the Intel-based Mac. "

And it just works flawless..

they actually mention x86 in the driver section. The links are dead though.

x86 is shorthand for Intel based computers, could be Mac or Windows, not to be confused with OSx86 which is the project we hackintoshers are a part of. The x86 is a throwback to the days when Windows machines were referred to by the Intel CPU that powered them, starting with the original 8086, then the 286, 386, etc. HTH

You have a right to get excited, it worked and that is the exciting part! We'll take our drivers/kext from wherever they come from as long as they do what we need them to do.
