aphex, I'm presuming your guide will apply to the entire 1410 range: 1410, 1410tz(?), 1810, 1810tz, correct? With the exception of the single/dual core, they all share similar characteristics.

There are a lot of happy owners of these little beasts; your guide will only make them happier!

I would assume it should, but without those models to test there is no way to know. The biggest differences AFAIK are the processors, which should have no effect on the guide. If they use a different graphics chip, then it would be different.

Still chugging along, I'm trying to prune it down to make it as simple as possible. Before I post it, I will format my 1410 and use the guide from scratch to make sure I didn't miss anything.

Sounds about right to me. Do you think you could include some notes about how to install if you want to preserve your existing OS? i.e, dual boot with Windows 7?

I like that too, when do you think we are going to be able to install OSX with everything working on the Acer 1410 11.6''? I just want to be able to try OSX before I buy a mac for twice the money, but i want to make sure I get the whole experience with everything working...

Also, I was wondering, I can do 2 finger scroll on Windows 7, doesn't that means that it should work on OSX?

I'm new at OSX, actually I've never tried it but I'm quite knowledgeable in Windows (currently running windows 7 for over a year now... And I like it, but i want whatever is best!!!)

Everything working? Probably never, unless we get some enterprising developer who wants to write drivers for the things that don't work.

well... it seems that you got most of it to work... except:

Maybe switch wireless card... and get moultitouch to work on trackpad... (Sleep and battery gauge doesen't really affect much) and what do you mean by Video working but no QE yet w/drivers from IM?

It seems to me that the only important thing you have left to make work is the trackpad...

Sorry for the quetions I know some of them are stupid... please bare with me :-D

The stock wireless is a no go for now as far as i know, the trackpad works, but no multitouch, and as for video, it works but without acceleration (UI animations aren't as smooth as they could be). Not sure about ethernet yet, haven't tried it.

are there wireless adapters that could be used instead of the stock ones? and i dont understand that part about acceleration... are you able to watch videos, youtube and such, is the quality on par with windows 7 on the same machine?

You can replace the wireless card with a compatible card, which I did, and the wireless works perfectly.

You can watch videos online just fine, thats all done with flash. The slowdown is with the UI, its just not as fluid without acceleration, but still very usable.

Aphex,

What is the compatible wireless card and where do you purchase it?

I went with the Dell 1510n, LINK

Keep in mind, the Acer 1410 uses a half-height wireless card, so our options are limited.

done some looking around and looks like a USB wireless adapter will work with hackintosh, google for specific types. i think thats a good option if you arent using osx as your main operating system,

The list so far;

OSX Leopard - Working (iPC 10.5.6)
Speakers - Working (w/ Voodoo HDA)
Audio I/O - Working (w/ Voodoo HDA)
Video - Working (Native Res but no QE yet w/ drivers from IM)
Webcam - Working (Native)
Wireless - Working (Native - Swapped in a Dell 1510 Wifi Card)
Trackpad - Working (Native - But need to get multitouch working)
Sleep - No
Battery Gauge - No

Thanks Aphex.

I did arrive to have the battery gauge to show up (twice as I also installed "slimbattery"). While I did it twice, my final version of the install was not showing me the gauge .... and have no idea why ....

Edit:
Battery gauge now showing.
See this thread:
http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?s=&showtopic=114105&view=findpost&p=1199033
(i also use slim battery monitor)

other:
The fan is always on (slow on battery, high when plugged)
I wish we could dim the display ... (save some battery!). However, screen will turn off after x amount of time.
I wish it could be put to sleep ...

Hi sbabolat and aphex,

Since both of you have OSX running on the Acer, and the rest of us are waiting for a guide on this, could you tell us which distribution of OSX to download? It could save some time down the track, since some of these things are several GB in size.

Cheers

When will this guide be ready? I can't wait to try it...

As soon as possible, as with everything lately, work has been eating up all my time (including weekends). I will finish it as soon as I can though.

Guys, After trying several distros, combinations, I managed to get SL installed on my 1410. Here is a QUICK tutorial to I get Snow Leopard installed on 1410: 1. Get a hold of 10.6.2/10.6.1 for AMD/Intel from HAZARD 2. Either burn the image to a DVD or make this image USB bootable 3. Boot 1410 from #2 above 4. Select the following options: a. Boot - Chameleon b. Kernel -legacy c. System - AHCI sata support (legacy I think) 5. Then go through the normal harddrive format/select then get SL install 6. It took 45 minutes for me. For me, I was not able to boot after the installation completes. So follow step #7 below 7. Get hold off NetBookInstall then following the instructions to install the necessary files (NBI + other options) 8. Run a "repair permissions" then reboot 9. You should no be able to boot to Snow Leopard. Do you settings, then follow the link above to get GMA4500's native res. DO NOT UPDATE - on my 1410, update killed my SL installation. 10. If you dualboot, then use EasyBCD to install dual boot options 11. Order Dell 1510N, that'll give you wifi. Just a quick tut to get you guys going. I might have missed a few steps. Feel free to ask questions, I try to answer whenever I can. JC

Mouse, keyboard, speakers work right after the installation. I did not check the microphone (no need for it). The 1410 Hackintosh is quite usable. My Dell 1510 will be here next week; it should work. I'm pretty happy with the current configuration. I used Bluetooth dongle to get internet for now (Connecting to A150 internet sharing via bluetooth- quite usable). Give it a try - make sure you write down all steps, just in case you happy to repeat the setup again.
