Are the stock fans inferior to multiple 120s for performance vs. noise level?

well the coolermaster fans that come with both the HAF932 and the ATCS840 are rated at 110CFM @ 700 rpm. you can also buy replacements off of frozenCPU that are 900RPM @ 150CFM. the 700RPM ones were rated at 19DB, and i was unable to find the DB rating on the 900RPM version. my best guess would be it really depends on what you consider louder or quieter, and under what conditions. given that the airflow is spread out over a large area (230mm fan) it probably doesnt increase the noise all that much though, but if you really wanted higher CFM having 4 low speed 120mm fans in each slot that a 230 was may ultimately give more airflow, but then again it may not. would probably have to be tested to really notice the difference, except maybe in noise production. you would definitely want to mount the 120s with noise and vibration reduction padding

That's a pretty lazy fan. A more powerful 230 could probably push 650CFM+ but quiet it would not be!

When I have it in my hands I'll probably stick next to the Alnor hood (balometer) to see what it really delivers with the mesh over it. :Q

I don't have any plans on picking up a new case any time soon, but if I did it would be one of these...then I'd cut the mesh and salvage a finger guard from a 9" box fan. Just an idea.

Ironically enough, i picked up one of these today myself. this has to be the smoothest installation of a computer into a case i have ever done, and it doesnt make me regret not having a modular PSU anymore. my only complaint is that the top 230mm fan isnt an LED fan as well. does anyone perhaps know where i could buy a 230mm fan to fit up there that's an LED fan as well (preferably in red). im going for a red/blue look with my case, trading the stock 140 on the back into my 690 for a 140mm UVLED yate loon i had in there, and i put the 120mm UVLED yate i took out of my old case and put it in the bottom by the PSU to blow fresh air up into my GPU. i would swap the fans on my cooler to provide light instead, except i havent seen any red LED yates, and antec tricool fans are 3x as expensive and louder. still debating on whether to put UV CCFLs in or not, since i always run my primary system on my desk by me with the door off so i can see inside.

How's this case in terms of noise though? To me it's a lot more open like the Antec 300, 900, 1200 cases and so while airflow is increased, they're certainly a lot louder than the P180 series cases.

Also how do you trade the 230mm fan for multiple 120mm fans. What's the layout?

I got my BLUE LED 230 mm fans from coolermaster. I have a Coolermast ATCS 840 and I purchased the HAF 230 mm fans and installed them with no problem.

The top fits 1x230 + 1x120 OR 3x120
the side fits 1x230 OR 4x120
the bottom fits 1x120 (if you have normal size psu) or 2x120 (if you have psu mounted on top)
front fits 1x230 or 1x120

currently i took both the top and the side fan out and put in 7 yateloon high speed LEDS @ 88CFM, also hooked them all onto a fan controller very quiet at low speed and still pushes more air then the 230's, on high there is a decent amount of noice, but then again you dont need that amount of cooling really (love to know its there though)

75CFM for a 230mm fan is pathetic. Any slower and it would be a ceiling fan. 4x 120mm AP15 Gentle Typhoons would be fantastic on the side panel however the screen would mess with them too much. They are very much free air fans.

where did you get 75CFM from? it says on the coolermaster site the ones included with their cases are 110CFM, and everywhere else (places that sell them) have them listed at 150. 1ManArmY, can you give us the link to where exactly you got your fan? i dont see a store link on coolermaster's website

ed: nvm frozencpu stocks them. they are listed as 200x230x30mm fans and i was looking for 230x200 lol

They are taking measurements for me ashore and getting in the high 70's. The fan may do more free air but it's pulling through a perforated panel.

You know, it's kind of odd being one of the few people who doesn't give a rat's ass about fan noise. Give me some 2000RPM 230mms, and let that air floooooow.

wouldnt that be the same issue regardless of the size of the fan? they move a lot more air than a 120 or 140 would in the same situation, like in the front of my 690.

A single 120 would however with the side panel you can install four 120's in its place which would move more air than a single 230 - the one that's supplied. Of course multiple fans mounted rigidly will likely introduce secondary noises that can be very annoying.

yea im getting annoyed by the vibrations my single 120 lowspeed yate are producing on the bottom of the case, though i think it has to do with the screws i used to mount it. i cant find LED yates in open corners, and i keep striping the screws when i put them in all the way even if i try and thread them first, so until i decide what im gonna do for a fan spacer (i have to order more and i dont want to run my student credit card up much lol), i guess i will just run my air purifier in my room a setting higher so i cant hear it anyway and i can get rid of all the dust i cleared out when i transfered my hardware out of my armor case into my HAF. as for how much airflow the side fan produces, i dont really care because i dont actually use the side door lol. as i have stated i forget how many times, my case sits on my desk with the side facing directly at me, and i like to be able to look inside whenever i want to dust, clean, add stuff, or just admire the job i did on it
