I just got asked to reformat this thing...what a beast. It's 10lbs with a ~15" 1920x1200 screen. Actually has USB 2.0, firewire, 802.11g, DVI-I...simply amazing. It's like 6" thick. I wish I could get photos to show you. I'm tempted to load up steam and try out some games.

Lol, 3.2 Ghz P4 guzzles down a lot of power. Pretty much an engineering feat to put that that off into a laptop, even for a big clunker.

Yep 9100, I found this a good image:

Has XP Home, and everybody has like 12 copies of that so it'll be easy to reformat. Still has the COA on it all nice and neat. It has 2x512MB RAM, wondering if I can find some old 1GB sticks to bump it to 2GB or if that's even worth the time/effort. My mother still has a mammoth desktop P4 Northwood 2.6GHz as her office PC...this laptop puts it to shame.

Maybe even HL2...but I haven't had time to play with it yet.
It's kind of a side project and I've got other stuff to work on (house, yard, animals, yay). Nice not having a job, you work more and get paid less.

You could kill a man with that beast! What's the battery life these days? 5 minutes? I had a similar vintage Dell 600m that I used for a few years so there's some nostalgia seeing this thing.

It probably could run HL2. The Radeon 9700 is probably potent enough for it. I think I had a 9800 pro at the time it came out.

I busted out laughing when I saw the title. I used to own one of these back in 2004, I believe. I was traveling more and more frequently, so I wanted to make sure I could game.

The TSA security officers would often look at it and comment like 'Is this two laptops?' with a WTH look on their face...

My buddy at work would always make fun of it by calling it a 'docking station'.

Oh wow, this thread brings up such good memories.

And I told me buddy at work about the thread just now and got a nice reply

lol

I'm pretty sure that had built in solar panels and a satellite dish.

HOLY MOLY blast from the past.

If you set it on your lap, do you spontaneously combust?

Unlike these stupid modern laptops with no sides that have to vent into your important bits, this has a ton of big vents to intake from the bottom and all the heat goes out the back.

In fact when looking around online for specs I found some accessory hinge pieces. One added a basket for Hotpockets and another that added rotisserie spikes for cooking various meats.

I remember beastly laptops such as those. You'd need to be treated for 3rd degree burns after using it on your lap and needed a forklift just to get it off of you.

It's bigger than an ITX case...so yeah.
It's a portable computer!

My friend has a modern gaming laptop w/ SLI...it's got nothing on this.

I used to own one of those... It made me swear off Dell as a computer company.

The computer has a design flaw that makes a connection on the motherboard fail, making it difficult if not impossible to charge the battery.

Mine failed twice under warranty (and they tried to make up a reason to deny it the second time)... then again a few months later.

...But yeah, it's an interesting piece of history.

Borrowed a ZD8000 for awhile which came with a Hyperthreaded 3.0GHz P4 and a Radeon x600M GPU. Carried it around college until I got my current machine. (still a 17", but a world apart in size).
