Hi, I have heard rumors that the Gforce 4 line of GPU's can use or infact needs an 8X agp slot is this true? Are there any mobos out there that have such a thing?

Thanks

Believe the Geforce 4 Ti 4600 supports 8x AGP. No mobo's currently have support for AGP 8x, and I believe the first one to support it will be the KT333A.

I think that AGP 8X support was dropped from the GF4 and will for the first time be in NV30.

I heard that there shouldn't be much difference in performance between 8x AGP and 4x.
Why would this be since there is a good improvement in going from 2x to 4x?

Why listen to rumors?? The product is released. There are no more NDA's holding back the details. Go to nvidia.com and you can see the GeForce4 as an AGP 4x part yourself.

AGP 8x is just as much bull as 128megs of RAM on the GF4. They will not help the card in performance, we can see that 2x and 4x is barely noticeable, and 4x brings in some new features over 2x.

Your point is??? Remember the same people that said that 64MB was way too much? Where are they now? Blanket statements aren't good in the computing world. I can guarantee you that 128MB will work wonders in Doom3 and Unreal2.

As for AGP8x, why even argue with it? That's about as pointless as anything can be. By the time AGP8x cards come out, we should be knee deep in AGP8x boards (KT333A, SiS746, and the new Intel P4 chipsets). So if your motherboard supports AGP8x and your video card supports AGP 8x, SHUT UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I believe the point of contention would be if someone asks "should I wait for a motherboard with AGP8X to come out several months from now and pay through the nose for it, or go ahead and build my system now?", then one might wish to know whether 8X is really going to make that big a difference.

I haven't seen any comparisons between 4X and 2X mode in a long while. Only saw them back when 4X was just starting to come out, and even then 2X didn't have that big an advantage over non-AGP video. It'd be nice to see a new benchmark set based on current games, to see whether 4X is really helping all that much (with sidebanding on and off, fast-write on and off, etc).
